The Museum

So, 15 - in addition to being insane about the Cards - is also a brewmeister. She had Junefest this past weekend, premiering her first flight of beers. I, unfortunately, was unable to attend this prestigious event, but I was there in spirit. Or, more accurately, I was there in the form of ink applied to Avery labels, as I did the best I can to make her beer look awesome. Here are life-size samples of the beer labels I made, some exactly as they appear, some lacking the text, because I am a goober and did not properly save the files.

This first one was for a Century Ale, and didn't exactly tax my creativity. I was trying to find a picture of Zambrano looking down or something, but the Cubs logo is actually really nice, and the beer title fit in so well that I thought it was just as good. High-res images of baseball players are hard to find on the internet, I've noticed. I'll have to start looking at SI for good pictures to scan, I guess. Note the proper punctuation, despite the awkwardness of its appearance. Damn my English-major self.

Oh, snap!

That says "First Pitch Brewery," in case you can't see it. And I actually believe that font is *called* century, but I closed the file already. That was purely coincidental, and I actually just noticed it.

Up next, the hefeweizen label. I actually really don't care for hefeweizens at all, but I appreciate why some people really like them. Again, didn't do a helluva lot to this one. Basically just scanned this picture out of Ken Burns' Baseball companion book. I thought about doing some art to go along with it, like you'll see for the next beer, but figured it's such a nice image as it is, why screw with it?

Archie Bunker would be proud.

This next one is the masterpiece of the bunch, and it's the one that I left all the text off. It's Burke's Basepath Brown Ale, and that is Cardinals third baseman Don Gutteridge scoring in 1939. I thought it was in the World Series, but evidently not. So, the original thought here was to get a picture of Lou Brock for 15's Cardinal-lovin' side, but as I mentioned earlier, high-res shots, not so much on the interweb. So I scanned a picture and then basically traced over it to give Don there and the catcher a kind of surreal look.

Slide!

I'm actually super-happy with that one, so I'm going to blow it up and make you look at a bigger version of it.

I am truly a great man.

Yeah, I like that one.

And, finally, at 15's request, one starring the boys, for a kolsch. I couldn't think of any snazzy alliterative or baseball-related title for kolsch, so I just had Pete do what Pete does best.

He's probably serious.

Good times!
