The Museum

Here are a bunch of pics from when 2.0 and I were down in DC, protesting Bush's grotesque inauguration. I had kind of resigned myself to the fact that America actually voted for the asshat, but now I'm settling into my tinfoil hat and figuring that there had to be shenanigans. And where there are shenanigans, there is protestin' to be done!

I like when people from red states feel the need to apologize. A woman at the RNC apologized to us for being from Texas. Good reason not to just divide the country into colors, despite what the media (and our own lazy tendencies) tend to force us into.

A good potpourri of signs, right here. There was a guy in an Uncle Sam outfit and a sign decrying the lavish gaeity of the inauguration, but I chose this pick because of the way 'inauguration' is butchered on that one guy's sign. If you're making a sign, man, spellcheck!

Either side of the same sign. That guy likes profanity as much as I do!

I don't know if any one human being has ever been photographed making as many dumb expressions as that man.

I'm reading some Chomsky right now - it's got me depressed. Signs like this don't help.

He at least had a sign. I more or less just chanted.

More for the nice take on Bush's logo than anything else, since, sadly, by the measures that mattered, Bush didn't lose. Obviously.

There's a great bit in this month's Harper's from this thing the Republicans circulate as part of their abstinence-only education. Did you know that out-of-marriage sex leaves both parties with lowered self-esteem? It's true, see, one feels used and the other feels like the user. 2.0 decided she was the user. And I just noticed that this sign was provided by FIST. Something about FIST and a sex-ed poster... That's funny.

E's little brother asked us what we were hoping to get from protesting. I suppose all you can hope for is to prove that it is not a mandate that this man got. I like to think we did.

And the only way I can be considered patriotic these days, too!

Was trying to get a good shot down the street to get an idea of how many people were in the march... We were with the DC Anti-War Network (DAWN), and I think they had around five or six thousand. 2.0 was disappointed with the turnout, but I think 1) the cold kept a lot of people away, 2) that this one wasn't very well organized, 3) a lot of people were discouraged after the election and are still hungover, 4) there was a bunch of other protests going on, too, and 5) we've been spoiled by the RNC protests where about half a million showed up. Oh, those red flags up ahead? That's the Radical Communist Youth Brigade. You may remember that I joined them briefly back in August. Managed not to do that this time around.

Condi also loves Bush. I, on the other hand, do not love Bush. I think he's an asshat.

Nice take on the hail to the thief line, I thought.

Here's hoping...
