I don't know why I thought this was funny enough for a whole strip, but I did. This was kind of inspired by an i-Mockey page from Friday. Well worth the look, plus a link to a rom of Monster Party, which I've kind of always wanted to play. So you've got that going for you, which is nice. I had a good link all ready for a thorough guide through bad video-game translations, but it's apparently no longer functional past the front page. Crap! Nintendo games, especially in the 80s, were famous for their botched Japanese-to-English translations. For instance, Donkey Kong was so named because the Japanese-to-English dictionary the designers were using told them that Donkey meant 'stubborn, wily or goofy.' Oh, wait, here's a good page.
Oh, by the way, Ron quotes Super Mario Bros., Metal Gear, Zelda II, and Pro Wrestling, while Pete goes with Zelda I, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Gauntlet, and Final Fantasy, again (this would've been a drinking penalty were this an actual drinking game, I have a feeling).
Oh, Mikey is working at Hewitt, not Hewlett-Packard. I suck.
I also suck for not listing 2.0 first on the Gold Member supporters from Friday. Sorry, honey.
Oh, I left Ivor off, too. Didn't know he read the site. Whoops.
Man, I can't even make the Goddamn crane.
I just found out that my local radio station turned 20 yesterday. Up until two years ago, EQX broadcast over the web and I would listen to it constantly at work. Ever since they stopped doing webcasts, their site has been updated with woeful frequency. But, visit anyway. They're one of the few radio stations I know of that have withstood a decade's assault from the bastards at Clear Channel.
Odd little story about the subways from Friday - evidently someone hacked into an electronic sign to make it read Pretty Girls Don't Ride the Subway. The Daily News covered it with the light-heartedness it deserved. Had the Post gotten the story, they'd be urging us to bomb Paris in retaliation.
From und.com's preview of the Pitt game: "The Rolling Stones produced the hit song `19th Nervous Breakdown' in 1965. Nearly 40 years later, it might be said that the 2004 version of the Notre Dame football team has created its share of nervous breakdowns for Irish fans and supporters over the past three months. This season has been a rollercoaster ride for the Irish in terms of team performances, critical praise (whether positive or negative) and unexpected results."
2.0: "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. "
I have to say, this is about my least favorite Notre Dame football team ever. Not quite as bad as some of Davie's squads, but, God, Saturday's game was awful. Some scrub named Tyler Palko is now the record holder for most TDs thrown against ND in one game, ever? This is mind-boggling. I think basketball starts this week. Thank God.
