The Sox are down two in the bottom of the ninth as I begin typing this, and 2.0 and I just finished watching the Dylan documentary. I liked the second half much more than the first. I've read some biographical stuff on Dylan, and I don't think reading anything can explain why Dylan gave up the political scene quite as well as the documentary footage that Scorsese dug up. The claustrophobic interview footage really accentuated the hell that being the first really popular folk singer in history must've been. Good job, Scorsese. I'm sure kudos from Five Bucks to Friday really means a lot, but, hey, whatever.

Moving on, 2.0 and I saw a taping of the Daily Show last night and it was a good time. The fluffer (not in the porn industry sense, but that's what 2.0 called the guy who came out to warm up the crowd, and it works, so) was pretty funny, and Stewart unexpectedly comes out and takes questions before the show, also, which is pretty cool. I saw a taping of Conan back in '97, and Conan didn't do anything like that, so I really wasn't expecting it (hence the use of the word unexpectedly earlier in the paragraph). Viggo came out looking like a million bucks, and I think it was mostly the suit, but it was impressive nonetheless. The taping went by really quickly - it's basically done in real-time - and it was quite a deal of fun. So, if you're a New Yorker or are visiting and have nothing better to do than wait in line for several hours, I highly recommend it. If you're a trivia bullgod like I am - and, yes, I intend on continuing to reference the first single from Devil Without a Cause, thank you - then you get the bad-ass VIP passes and not have to sweat quite as much of the waiting.

The Sox managed to lose in the last two paragraphs, by the way.

Links! Sutton Impact brings up a phenomenon I've pondered many a times - mainly, why a liberal haven like New York City seems to constantly elect Republican mayors. I actually have said on many an occassion that Bloomberg hasn't been all that bad, but I'd like to think that I was always speaking on a sliding scale. When he was elected, I thought it was a terrible idea (I was still registered for upstate so that I could vote on my high school's bond issues at the time, and was not allowed to vote in the mayorial elections of '01), so anything less than blood in the streets qualifies as a success. But, really, his stupid West Side Stadium, his asinine behavior during the RNC, and now busting up the Cindy Sheehan rally? I wasn't about to vote for him anyway, but now I'm considering marching against him.

It's a big Voice day here at Five Bucks, by the way. Here's a review of 50 Cent's book that is much more favorable than I, an aspiring novelist, would like to see. Son of a bitch! And, keeping with rap and the Voice, here's a detailed history and in-depth review of the Fugees' latest effort. I think I missed the part where Lauryn Hill and Wyclef bumped uglies, but I never listened to the Miseducation, so that's not surprising. Most of my knowledge of Lauryn Hill's music comes from a few Boondocks strips from back in '01, which reminds me, I saw a phone-booth ad about the Boondocks coming to adult swim (it's been pushed back from the date listed in this article), which if I had cable I probably would've known months ago, but, as it is, is pretty cool. Oh, and to hear the Fugees' latest, go here.

The play-by-play for Georgia Tech's 1916, 222-0 win over Cumberland. The rules seem to be vastly different back then, as it appears that Cumberland had to kick off to Tech every time Tech scored on them, for some reason. Am I reading that right?

God, check out some of the abysmal titles coming to direct-to-DVD. American Pie 4, House Party 5, the Butterfly Effect 2, and 8mm 2?! Kill me now. I'm not even mentioning the sequel to the rodeo movie Luke Perry made in between stints on 90210.

John Allison of Scary-go-round is on vacation this week, and is running an Illustrator how-to instead of original strips. I knew as soon as he announced this that I would be shamed, and, sure enough, I am. "You can easily spot the Illustrator newcomer by their wobbly unclosed frehand (sic) shapes." I've long given up trying to get that pen function to work, and, besides, I'm told that there's an honesty to my work, wobbly lines and all.

Finally, we all work with morons who ask questions like, "Do you know who won the Tennessee-LSU game the other night?", or, "How do I get to Central Park from here?" or, "I can't come up with another example, but tell me something that I could easily find if I Googled it." For these people, RAW found the perfect link.

And I part with some good news - the AL East Champion Yankees lost tonight, 17-9, to a team that had lost nine games in a row and is possibly the only team more linked to steroids than they are. So the Sox, Goat Fuckers and Cleveland all go into tomorrow's action still tied, with five games left in the season. I just can't stand it!

Aren't you glad to know Laura is out there doing things PURELY out of the goodness of her heart & not trying to get publicity at all?

I think this is my favorite part:

Keeping the excitement up on Tuesday was no great feat; if anything, producers had to plead for calm. Storm victims who had gathered at the Biloxi Community Center, where clothes donated by Sears, a show sponsor, were being distributed, waited eagerly with their cameras for Mrs. Bush to arrive.

"People walking in here, this is a surprise for you!" one director shouted at the crowd. "Don't stand here looking like you know what's coming."

Oh, man, I had that one geared up ready to go for tomorrow. Oh well. 2.0 and I watch that show - 2.0 cries at it every week - but I think I would start vomiting blood if I saw that one. So I'm going to have to watch the promos now and make sure I never catch it.

In other news, DeLay's been indicted.
