A quick explanation of this - Illustrator comes with these ridiculous patterns that have absolutely no conceivable use. One of them looks exactly like the shirt Zach Braff wears in that one scene of Garden State where he blends into the wallpaper, one of them is this bizarre leopard-spotted thing, and one is this monstrosity. As I used to own a luminescent pink shirt that looked as if it were a cold fusion experiment in action, the idea of giving Ron a living shirt of crazy patterns was appealing to me. Am I destroying the humor by explaining it? Maybe, but no one's actually ever accused me of bringing the humor with this strip, anyway, so what is there for me to lose?

I was upstate this weekend, helping my dad hoe out the barn and helping my mom watch the Irish kick Washington's ass. I'm not kidding on that one - she wanted to watch the football game with me because she gets too nervous and has to leave the room all the time. So if I cheer or something, she knows that it went OK and can come back in. How my mother made it to 64 being that nervous is completely beyond me.

Unfortunately, 2.0 was unable to come home with me, because she's TAing a class at her school, and had to take the kiddies to the MoMA. If you haven't been to the MoMA since it reopened in New York last year, you really have to go - it's freaking crazy. Anyway, 2.0 saw some art there that so blew her mind that she has yet to actually verbalize it to me, but insists that we go next weekend so I can see it. So I guess watch this space next Monday because I'll have some art to tell you about.

The other unfortunate thing about my going home for the weekend - despite how nice of a weekend I had - is that I missed the big protest down in DC. Haven't even really gotten a chance to read up on it yet. From what I've heard, which was one article in the esteemed Albany Times Union, was that they met the target of 100,000 folks down there. Here's a live-blogged account of the whole shindig that hopefully does not suck - I haven't even read it yet, so sorry if it does.

By the way, you know who else hates Not-my-president? Fucking Aragorn. Man looked the mouth of Sauron in the face and didn't blink. Decapitated the mofo, but didn't blink. So Aragorn knows evil. (In all seriousness, Viggo Mortensen is actually really well-spoken. It's a long video, but it's pretty good. And Viggo busts out the Howard Zinn. Respect!)

Anyway, that's all I've got right now. I rolled home pretty late and had only a dial-up connection all weekend, so there was no way for the wonders of the interweb to be opened to me. I'll be back with more tomorrow.

So during halftime of the ND game, Grafe offered to quell my cake-craving with homemade brownies. But then the game came back on so the Secretary was pressed into duty. All I have to say is that these were the best darn brownies ever. Seriously resturant quality. No more boxes for me. http://www.americastestkitchen.com/recipe.asp? recipeids=1952&iSeason=5

I was once taken to task by my friend the Red-headed Stepchild's mother for bringing over brownies made out of a box. Which was kind of funny, as I was bringing unrequested brownies to her daughter and her daughter's roommate. But I'll try this recipe maybe this weekend. I've got a good cake recipe that's got me off the boxes for cakes, but I've remained a box loyalist for brownies.

By the way, Charlie Weis has already visiting a dying child and granted his last wish.

Beat SoCal in three weeks and the waiting period for sainthood will be waived.

What was more impressive was that MNP had every single ingredient necessary for the brownies on hand!

Bullfrog, you can know that my grandfather (who is 80-something) went to the Washington protests to represent my whole family. By proxy he represented you too :)

MNP et al. feel free to send a batch this way :-)

Also, local reports have the protest at more than 300,000 people.

I just heard something amazing on NPR... Bush asked people not to drive if they could avoid it to conserve gas. Now he almost choked on the words and seemed to mumble, but he actually asked people to conserve. Two breaths later he talked about upping refinery capacity, but at this point I'll take any little victory I can get.

Reggie Ho -- Monday, September 26 2005, 01:48 pm

Someone please ask Charlie if I can be on the team again. I don't think we can afford in games against real football teams to miss any more extra points.

Bullfrog -- Monday, September 26 2005, 02:22 pm

I'll see what I can do, Reg.

The DC police one-upped the NYPD by actually arresting Cindy Sheehan.

Dave, yeah, it was something. I was watching the game with my mom and she wondered why they threw on first and ten from the one-yard line. I guess breaking a promise to a dead ten-year old is some mighty bad karma, so Weis decided to stick with it. This guy is so radically different from Davie and Willingham that it's like I've got a whole new football team to root for. Whoo-ha.
