I decided to go ahead with a bit of plot instead of another one-off strip today. Bear with me, this is just stuff I need to get out of the way in the establishment of the Five Bucks universe. Also, while not exactly Louvre-worthy, this strip at least looks like I spent some time on it. And it has a discernable punchline. Kind of.
I've lost the original Illustrator file (I draw these things in Illustrator and then save them as .gifs for the web), so I couldn't go back and fix it, but had I known from the get that this strip would be Lissa's debut, I would've bothered to refer to her by her complete name, instead of just Lis. (Jen's saying 'Lis' in the last panel, not 'us'.)
Lissa is reading Jane magazine, which 2.0 gets. I really like Jane mag, actually, and there's a good book called 40 Watts From Nowhere written by one of their senior writers (those two thoughts are only marginally related). It's about the pirate radio stations, KPBJ and KBLT, that the author ran in the mid-90s. It's a quick read, but I liked it.
Get used to the girls' shirts, they're wearing them for the next week or two.
Our second reader request is upon us! Richard would like for you all to know that you can do anything at zombo.com! Turn the sound on, by the way - it's safe for work.
2.0 is taking a documentary film class - we watched Capturing the Friedmans last night. The case on Arnie may or may not have been conclusive, but he definitely deserved jail. Jesse, it was harder to tell. David, the oldest son? He should be in jail just because anyone with that amazing of a capacity for denial shouldn't be walking the streets. He violates the admittedly draconian Do Not Annoy Me Law of 1998.
No updates over the weekend, since I do these at the office until I get an ethernet card for my laptop. So everyone have a good one, and Go Irish, Beat Spartans! My buddy Jeff is in town this weekend, and he turns 27 tomorrow. As with Sally, wish him a happy one if you feel like it.

All right, four days in and I haven't fallen off schedule yet. I think we should start a pool for for when I miss the first update.
A very happy 26th birthday to my dear Sally! I hear her cellphone minutes are up, so she won't be answering her phone. So e-mail her.
I've added a new page to the Museum, of a storefront in Queens that I can't believe exists.
I've been told that E's mother is one of my legions of readers (it's got to be a half-dozen, at least). Howdy, Colleen. Anybody else out there I don't know about? Feel free to write - I've got that gmail thing that will never, ever, ever fill up.
I think I'm going to begin a bit of a story-arc tomorrow, but I haven't decided for sure yet.
Two paragraphs after I throw a shout-out to my best friend's mother, I go ahead and post this picture. I have no idea what's wrong with me. This watch used to be in the window of the storefront (big day for storefronts) next to my office. I think this watch was $1500, but it may have been more - for some reason, $7500 nags at me. My first thought was, '$1500 for a watch? Oh, please.' My second thought was, 'Wait, what the hell is going on? Oh my God.'
The devil's penis is the second hand, by the way. It clicks back and forth constantly.
I'm sorry, Mrs. Sylvester.
