New readers may be confused by Ron's reaction. In the interest of being a good host, here's an explanation.

I guess today is the webcomic telethon thing. Not sure exactly how it's working, but I sent in a strip and I kind of like it. I was told to make it PG. I put the word 'douchebaggery' in there. Is that PG? I haven't seen a PG movie in years, and I hear that the standards are all out of whack, now, anywya. When I asked the guy about it, he left it up to me. My theory is that any kid reading the interweb has read much worse than 'douchebaggery'. Or would not be able to pronounce the word, as they probably think it's spell dooshbag or something. Which is actually pretty funny. Doosh. Hee-hee. Anyway, I thought the language thing was kind of a moot point because of the nature of the interweb in general and also because they asked for my .url, which leads me to believe that they'll publish the .url, which means that anyone reading the site may come here, where I use saltier language than douchebag on a near daily basis. As you can see, I've worried entirely too much about this.

As Fark says, "Brownie, you're doing a heckuva job.. Cleaning out your desk." I'm still hoping for criminal charges to result from this.

The wise and powerful omahadomer says ND may be good this season. I've been waiting anxiously for omahadomer to say that the wins have been more than just flukes, and now I am quite excited.

Got this from the Detroit Free Press while seeing if they were bitching about the Michigan loss (they were):

1993: The last time the Irish beat Michigan State at Notre Dame Stadium. That also had been the last time the Irish won at Michigan Stadium -- until Saturday. Even more interesting: That year was the last time the Irish won a bowl game, finished ranked in the top 10 or seriously challenged for a national title.

It was also the last time Tim Burton released a stop-action animated film, the wonderful Nightmare Before Christmas. The Corpse Bride comes out in select cities on Friday, and I'm assuming New York has been selected.

One last collitch football note - actually, more useful than that: Anyone need a pair?

Peanuts is currently rerunning what I'm assuming is the start of Snoopy's career as a gothic novelist. Or at least it's the storyline where he gets past the first sentence. As a five-year old, I wrote a story that began with these lines. It wasn't very good.

Wow, this poster is awesome. (2.0, be sure to check it out.)

Big day today! The Gilmore Girls season premiere is tonight. I'm quite excited. I'm hoping Lorelai and Luke get engaged, Logan gets hit by a truck, Rory runs away and we don't have to put up with her woe-is-me shit, and Lane Kim's band hits the big time with their tour. That would be a powerhouse hour of television.

Also, today marks one year since I began this site. I think I'm going to get myself a little mini-chocolate cake from Connecticut Muffin or something to celebrate. We're at about 238 strips or so in the year. So that's pretty exciting. Thanks for stickin' around, everyone.

What'd I do?

E -- Tuesday, September 13 2005, 01:19 pm

This is long, but does identify the poverty problems in the US:

"I hope we realize that the people of New Orleans weren't just abandoned during the hurricane," Sen. Barack Obama said last week on the floor of the Senate. "They were abandoned long ago—to murder and mayhem in the streets, to substandard schools, to dilapidated housing, to inadequate health care, to a pervasive sense of hopelessness." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9287641/

Also, I heard a report last night that the treasury department is raising the minimum payment on credit card balances. Guess who this is going to hurt most?

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, September 13 2005, 01:53 pm

Multimillionaires?

Grafe -- Tuesday, September 13 2005, 02:40 pm

doesn't raising the minimum payment mean that the principal will actually get paid down now, instead of keep building?

oddly, i didn't know minimum payments were regulated.

MNP -- Tuesday, September 13 2005, 03:09 pm

Grafe is right - it is the government trying to keep people from getting TOO in debt. not that a minimum of $30 vs. $50 really is gonna do much, but it's a start. historically, raising the minimum payment has very little effect on the # of people who go into delinquincy or bankruptcy.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, September 13 2005, 04:32 pm

Holy shit, Not-my-president halfway took the blame for the suck-ass response.

"For the extent to which the federal gov't fell short," is the (apologies to Prometheus 6) quote of note. I take that to mean he's still blaming local gov't for most of it.

Raising the minimum encourages better debt management and credit responsibility. Harder to file for bankruptcy now so better learn to manage finances now rather than later. Hurts plenty of middle class people as well, who have been raised to live off of credit cards. It's certainly not a class issue.

I'm so sad I didn't get a chance to read this until 8pm...I could have spent the whole day looking forward to Gilmore Girls because I totally forgot!

Happy Site Anniversary!
