Comics back next week - sorry about this, gang.

Hey, everyone. Sorry, didn't even draw a strip by hand for today. It was a hectic few days and I just needed to unwind last night. The strips will be back on Monday. I'd say 'and better than ever' or something, but who can tell with me?

Anyway, Gram looked good and my mother held it together pretty well. Mom cries when we drive past funerals, so I was kind of expecting this to be a lot harder on her than it wound up being. She had a lot to do, though, and I think that helped her. For my part, my uncle Mark and I have been put in charge of heating up the food that people bring to wakes from now on. We cut out teeth on it last year when Grampa passed, and really came into our own this year. This is a good job for me because it involves leaving the wake half an hour early. Mom's family mostly lives in Rome, NY, which is essentially a very small town where virtually everyone knows everyone else. Mark married in, and I always feel like an in-law up in Rome, so we don't do so well at Rome events. Leaving to go get the food ready is a good job for us. Plus we get to eat.

Anyway, few links here. I'd wait until Monday, but the Times' archives turn pay after seven days, and these articles came out last Saturday, meaning that today's the last day they're on-line for free. They're both about Wal-Mart's anti-union practices in Colorado and Canada (I know this will shock you, but Canada's ahead of us on the curve!). Of all the corruptions in the world, union corruption pisses me off the most because I really belive in unions, and I hate that they have such a bad name. Wal-Mart's brainwashing would be a lot less effective if the unions hadn't given themselves such a shitty name in the first place.

Oh, this is a review of Collapse, the new one by the Guns, Germs and Steel guy. Never read Guns, Germs, but I really want to. Anyway, his new one's about civilizations that, well, collapse. He makes a case study out of Easter Island. It is no secret, although I don't think I've mentioned it on this site yet, that I love Easter Island. I would love to have one of those rockin' Moai heads on my front lawn some day. Probably won't happen - the shipping would be astronomical - but it's fun to think about. Anyway, the first step to collapse is disregard for the environment. Oh, hello, Mr. Bush, when did you get here?

Hey, Tree, Black Table hit Babbo - haven't read it yet, but figured I'd put it up here.

Found this the other day - in the tradition of that crazy guy who hates every movie ever, here's a crazy organization that hates television! The best thing is that you can file an FCC complaint right there on their site! I think I liked it better before we empowered idiots.
