Comic for Monday, October 19, 2009

I took the song du jour from the Weis Cracks at NDNation. That place is unreadable - yes, we lost on Saturday, but that was a good fucking football game. We got pushed around like kindergartners, and were one Duval Kamara slip, or one different read of a Rudolph catch, from OT. We didn't get the game taken away from us like we did at Ann Arbor, it just was an excellent game that we lost. Yeah, Weis fucked up at the end, and yeah, Harrison Smith can't cover for dick. But whatever. I guarantee you none of the 60 recruits present walked away from that game thinking Weis is a dead man walking.
Pajiba has some crazy Twilight commentors checking in. Yikes. One of my kids wrote a Twilight-inspired poem about her ideal world. She fell in my esteem as I was reading that. Oh, speaking of my kids, I got the greatest assignment the other day. I teach a journalism class, and we staged a mock press conference, where the kids interviewed me and my CT, and then had to write about it. Check this out (names changed to protect the innocent):
Who is more interesting? Ms K or Mr. Bullfrog? Well I have the answer for you. Ms K grew up in New Mexico, which is known for nothing but the history of aliens and that the first atomic bomb was made there. Mr. Bullfrog also grew up in a solo, lonely environment, on a farm upstate in Delanson. Ms K was a little bit of a rebel side; growing up she wouldn’t listen to her mom and dad like she should have. Mr. Bullfrog was obligated to be an angel, his parents were too strict for him to disobey. Ms K grew up and was raised to be independent like her mother. Mr. Bullfrog was only independent in the sense that he had no siblings so he had to learn to entertain himself always on this sad farm. Ms K's first job looks and sounds very interesting; she worked at at a coffee shop. Mr. Bullfrog had his red cap on and delivered pizza all around Delanson. The only thing they might have in common is that they both enjoy watching football and baseball, and they could sit all day and watch their favorite movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I think you should have your answer by now.
I love that it is possible to read the farm as being sad, and also as a place that farms sadness. That is some top-notch journalism right there. (Paragraphs are a problem for my kids.)
My local post office seems to maybe be one of the worst in the city. I do have to say, it's a big mess. But I went there on Saturday and was in and out in seven minutes, despite four people being in front of me. So maybe it's on the mend. The customer in that video sounds insane, by the way.
Alright, I guess I should go figure out what I'm going to teach today.

Miyaa -- Monday, October 19 2009, 07:07 am New Mexico? Aliens? Maybe only the Mexican kind.
2.0 -- Monday, October 19 2009, 08:07 am I think that guy is a bit touched.
Our post office is bad, but it's not the worst...and certainly not worth the six minutes of crazy that clerk had to endure.
Miyaa -- Monday, October 19 2009, 11:17 am So apparently if the subway out of Times Square is suppose to leave at 5:15, it's really scheduled to leave at 5:16. So says the New York Times. Way to ruin it for the rest of us, Grey Lady!
Bullfrog -- Monday, October 19 2009, 11:33 am Huh? I didn't know the subway even tried to run on a schedule.
Ted's Head -- Monday, October 19 2009, 12:05 pm Yup, each subway line actually has a schedule. They're probably on the MTA site - i'm too lazy to look right now. Kind of funny since there's no way they even come close to sticking to it.
Bullfrog -- Monday, October 19 2009, 01:25 pm The G pretty dependably leaves the Church Ave stop at about 6:55 am, but since that's the first stop on the train, I don't give them a lot of credit for keeping that schedule.
CK -- Monday, October 19 2009, 03:25 pm Mr. CK (aka USC Man) has a Google Transit iPhone app that tells him the quickest route to any destination via the NYC subway system, and it definitely uses the subway timetable. Seems pretty accurate, too.
Joe B -- Monday, October 19 2009, 09:43 pm I like the widescreen images today. And things were going so bad that Lissa put her pants back on :-) Ha ha, yes I read the late comments. I expected they would [black box] like [black box], whether as celebration or consolation.
Friday and Monday go together so well that I almost think you prepared them in advance, counting on ND to lose. But I would not accuse you of such a thing. No never.
Yes the subway has always had a schedule, but the concept had once been to run so frequently that you wouldn't need to know it.
MJL -- Tuesday, October 20 2009, 07:55 pm Big news from camp MJL: New picture from this afternoon at http://www.lamora.org. Yup, that's right, one more coming, in early March, and this time a little lady. :-)
