Go Irish!

Posted: 12:10 am, Friday, October 16

C'mon, Irish! Do it for Lissa!

Remember when airline pilots were like rock stars? Neither do they.

Speaking of rock stars, I would totally be one of the tens who would buy Rock Band Wilco.

I hope Wild Things doesn't suck, but since I won't have to time to see it in the theater, anyway, it doesn't really matter.

What is the deal with that ad where the pothole has a Southern accent? God, that doesn't even make sense.

The incomparable Posnanski with some great stories on the 10 best hitters of all time, particularly Musial and Gehrig.

You know what makes Posnanski awesome? His attention to detail and fact. Which is also what makes Jon Stewart awesome, even if he steals my line about the Yankees and applies it to CNN.

Seriously, can I get royalties on goat fuckers?

Man, how lame am I for wishing that I had Lifetime in HD so that I could watch Project Runway without it being stretchy and pixel-y. I hate myself for typing this. And since you already know freaking lame I am, I will share two exciting Gilmore-ish tidbits: Amy S-P is going to HBO where hopefully she will recover from the disaster that was Jezebel James, and Lorelai is hitting the small screen again, also.

For glory, Irish! FOR GLORY!

GO IRISH! BEAT TROJANS!

bullfrog

todd -- Friday, October 16 2009, 12:31 am

Yay Lorelai! I would do what Ron said to Lissa to Lauren Graham.

Also, I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE SOUTHERN CAL.

Noxx -- Friday, October 16 2009, 05:48 am

It's hard to appreciate real hatred for the Trojans unless you're from SoCal and have experienced what an undeservedly elitist pile of shit that school, and anyone who has attended it, truly is.

If USC played Tehran, and we had to choose sides, I'd probably have to sit down and think about it. A while.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 16 2009, 06:17 am

I don't want to disrupt the rage, but I do feel like I should say that CK's fella went to USC. He doesn't care about football, though, and is an upstanding young man. I just wanted to say that. Carry on, Irish.

todd -- Friday, October 16 2009, 07:40 am

Noxx: If Southern Cal played Tehran I wouldn't have a hard time choosing sides. One is the center of evil, all that is wrong with the world, with a leader who purposely flouts the conventions placed on him by governing bodies, and lies and cheats to achieve their goals and the other is just a city in Iran.

2.0 -- Friday, October 16 2009, 07:51 am

I can't wait for this season to be over.

Miyaa -- Friday, October 16 2009, 09:30 am

So I'm driving home from work the other day (woo, work!) and there's this commercial about Buick and the first thing it provides as a "sign" that Buick is better than ever (remember this is GM we're talking about) is a sort of DVR for radio, that is recording and playback of live radio, presumably while you're driving in the car.

A) Why would you want to record stuff from a radio show? Most shows you might want to record (e.g. sports shows) have podcasts you can download from their website, even if it means you have to get a subscription to ESPN the Magazine to do it.
B) How the hell you would even be aware to do this while driving in your car? How would it know when to skip through the commercials?
C) Wouldn't the RIAA be on your ass faster than ND safety blitz on Matt Barkley if you recorded songs from the radio?

And seriously, what's with the censoring? You've never censored stuff before. Either Ron promises the sex of all sex if they win or perhaps he's promised her a shopping spree at a True Religion if the Domers win. Or both, I could be wrong.

While I'm thinking about it, I don't think they'll get any of the ALCS game in the first two nights. They say there's a window of opportunity to get the games in, but seriously, they'd have a better opportunity if they played the games back-to-back at noon today instead of by 7 pm each night.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to see if Pedro dooms Joe Torres' Dodgers towards a possible sweep.

MJL -- Friday, October 16 2009, 09:53 am

Uh-oh, Frog. I think that Ron, in panel 2, puts a bagel with cream cheese into his pocket, which might lead to getting pocket fuzz in the cream cheese.

(I realize that there's not an IMDB goofs section for FiveBucks. I probably should have just let it go. Urgh. I'm a jerk.)

Noxx and Todd - Hilarious. I think we all knew where Todd was going after just a few words, but still very nicely played.

I've been following, and enjoying, this blog since the season started, written by an alum that scored himself a dream assignment: http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/category/daily-domer/

I stumbled on it while googling for some fantasy football rankings. My team is currently in second-to-last place. http://fantasyfootball.fanhouse.com/

CK -- Friday, October 16 2009, 10:08 am

Thanks, Bullfrog. As my fella is not overly invested in football, as you say, I'll root for the Irish on this one.

I thought the censoring was funny -- also Noxx and Todd.

ktbb -- Friday, October 16 2009, 11:15 am

I like it that Ron puts his bagel into his pocket -- it's an indication of just how distracted he is because of the game, and it also simply emphasizes his overall loveable goofiness. (even if it was unintentional)

Whitey -- Friday, October 16 2009, 11:18 am

GO IRISH!! BEAT TROJANS!!!

Also, can I get the unedited version so I can show my girlfriend who is not yet doctrinated (unindoctrinated???) into the hate of all hates?

I loathe U$C.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 16 2009, 12:15 pm

Man, I dunno, guys, I can't say that I actually hate USC. I want to beat them into oblivion, but since it's never actually been a fair matchup in my lifetime (missed the 70s), it's mostly a streak of games v. a streak of games. Still, I can't stress how bad I want to drop 50 on 'em tomorrow.

Michigan? Michigan's another story.

There *is* no uncensored version. I don't even know how Ron's third panel would parse, honestly.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 16 2009, 12:16 pm

I am extremely gleeful than none of Bush, Leinart or Jarrett are the least bit successful in the NFL.

Licia -- Friday, October 16 2009, 01:52 pm

after reading the first chapter of the Wild Things novel that's coming out based on the screen play, I was not optimistic for the movie. The review I heard on NPR this morning confirmed my fears. I think its just better left as the original book.

RJF -- Friday, October 16 2009, 04:24 pm

Is it just me, or is Lissa not wearing pants in panel 4?

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 16 2009, 04:31 pm

Damn! I was hoping nbody would call me on that. She actually *is* wearing pants. The color looked different in Illustrator, and before I cropped the picture down, it was easier to tell. The only reason I care is because it kind of changes the joke. I'll probably change her to blue jeans when I get home.

Go USC -- Friday, October 16 2009, 10:24 pm

Go Southern Cal!

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 16 2009, 10:44 pm

D'oh! You told us. You're right. Go Trojans! I will now re-color 5+ years of t-shirts on make-believe people, and take a Crayola to my diploma to try and hide my new-found shame.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 16 2009, 10:45 pm

Sad: Trolling on a Friday night.

Sadder: Responding to trolls on a Friday night. I wish my wife was home.

Bullfrog -- Saturday, October 17 2009, 12:32 am

I am eight seconds into Rocket's pep rally speech, and it is clearly not to be missed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0Etm8xQJuY

Bullfrog -- Saturday, October 17 2009, 12:38 am

Oh, God, it is so not to be missed.

Go USC has been overruled by Rocket. I'm back to the side of the Light, and Marco. LET'S GO GET 'EM! LET'S GO GET 'EM!

Bullfrog -- Saturday, October 17 2009, 07:24 pm

Ugh. I am exhausted.

Ted's Head -- Sunday, October 18 2009, 01:09 am

Fuck yeah.

DFFD -- Sunday, October 18 2009, 04:08 pm

I didn't find that pep rally speech all that inspiring. "It's not a game!"??? What is it then?

Bullfrog -- Sunday, October 18 2009, 05:09 pm

Don't use your head at pep rally speeches, DFFD. Use your heart.

...

Right, nevermind, then.

DFFD -- Sunday, October 18 2009, 11:23 pm

So...don't listen to the words, but just the tone and the chest thumping? Lesson learned for next time.

Coach -- Monday, October 19 2009, 12:23 am

You may need go after Janet Napolitano for her use of goatfuckers.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/the_bugle/article6878690.ece The story is in the first minute of the podcast.

(Not sure if you listen to this podcast, but it is quality)
