Marching shots!

Posted: 6:31 am, Friday, October 9

I just want to say right that there is going to be a tremendous photo series either on Monday or Wednesday, depending when we get back from out of town on Sunday. "Out of town," in reference to Bullfrog and 2.0, dear readers, should, by this time, mean, "at a wedding." I don't think any two people alive have been to as many weddings as we in the past five years. (CK - correct usage, there?) Anyway, if you actually know what this photo series will be, please don't mention it in the comments. Because it's mind-blowing.

This was on Deadspin the other day, but I don't know how many people still read that, so I'm reposting it. Zing, Mets fans! The kid who posted it is a sixteen-year old Irish/Sox fan, so it's a good thing she lives in Philly, because I wouldn't be able to have her in my class. I'm already ridiculously biased toward the kid who told me, off-handedly, one day, that the Irish have really headed downhill ever since Darius Walker left, because he was so good at picking up the blitz. WTF?

Listening to a 31-year old Warren Zevon boot right now and loving life.

I'm very excited that, Tuesday, Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2 and the deluxe Fallout 3 all come out. Seeing as how I don't have time to blow my nose these day, I ought to totally have time for those games before the new Mario Brothers in December.

Sorry in advance to 51, but I was listening to Kid A last night while the Cards blew game 2. (My class earlier in the evening dealt in postmodernism, and Kid A is the most pomo album I can think of.) This is eerie because as I was driving back from the Music Shack (holy 2000!) from having purchased Kid A, I was listening to playoff baseball on the radio, and the Ankiel game was on. The two have always been linked in my mind since then. (Other random music note - I tuned to the MU (MU? UM? the Mizzou) - NU tilt while waiting for the Sox to start last night, and ESPN played a 311 song as outtro music. Wtf.)

Based vaguely off of Pitchfork and a few other various lists that are compiling the greatest hits of the '00s. Album of the decade, 2000-present: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, or Kid A? I'm willing to entertain Funeral, but while that's an awesome disc, I don't know if I'd say it captured the zeitgeist like the other two.

I am fascinated by the alternate universe that TBS has constructed in which George Lopez is a celebrity of any consideration.

Only caught about half of the Sox game last night, but was listening to it right before bed when Lester gave up the dong. That sucked. I bet my kids will have something to say about it!

Alas, the Orange (County of Los Angeles - Anaheim) Angels shut out the Sox 3-0. However, the Anaheim Angels have never won an ALDS series where they've won the first game.

Yes, it's MU. UM is Michigan. And NU had a 4th quarter comeback that was quite fascinating to see, when you didn't feel like you should be waiting for Steve Carol to come and offer you a ride in his ark.

Of course, this wasn't the worst thing to happen to sports fans in Missouri today. I'm not sure which is worse: Cardinals blow away their 2-0 lead against the Dodgers or the news that the next owner of the St. Louis Rams maybe...Rush Limbaugh.

Now if you'll excuse me, I should think about becoming an Oregon state sports fan.

No sooner is deconstruction and its implied infinite responsibilities explained to me, than Slate gets into the conundrum of the greenest way to get your music.

http://www.slate.com/id/2231511/

The site is going to be all grad-level theory now, all the time. That will really blow this place up.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 9 2009, 08:42 am

5-0, but after Hunter's homer, it didn't matter. These Sox aren't nearly as good as the '07, '04 models, and aren't as good as the Game 7-forcing models of '03 or '08, either, I don't think. They may squeak past the Angels, but I don't think this is a Series team.

UM is also Miami. It seems like if you want to be a douchetastic team of douchiness, giving yourself the acronym of UM is a good start.

Rush Limbaugh. Asplodin' heads abound.

Did you see that Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize? now, I love our president and what he's done with our world imagine, but the Nobel Peace Prize? Really?

MNP -- Friday, October 9 2009, 09:25 am

that should say "World IMAGE"

BF: were Boston wearing their '86 jerseys? It appeared so to me, and from a karmic perspective seems kind of dumb.

CK -- Friday, October 9 2009, 10:28 am

I'm pretty sure "as we is" right, because the "have" is implied there.

I'm pleased for Obama personally, a little bit bewildered as it *does* seem premature, and regretful that this will just make the Fox News people even nastier. But they were never going to be on his side anyway.

Ted's Head -- Friday, October 9 2009, 12:11 pm

Haha! The cupcake with the baby in it is the best! BUt that is quite disturbing if the whole pro-life cupcake thing is serious.

I was unaware that the Nobel peace prize is voted on by Norwegians, while the rest of the Nobel prizes are given out by the Swedes. Weird Scandinavians.

51 -- Friday, October 9 2009, 12:52 pm

I have decided I don't like baseball anymore. wtf.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 9 2009, 02:56 pm

Those are our road unis these days, Tree. They differ from the '86 road grays because of the "hanging sox" on the arm. I'm not a big fan of them, myself.

Miyaa -- Friday, October 9 2009, 08:02 pm

The cynical side of me wonders if this was just a ploy for Obama to spend a night in Stockholm just as the IOC got Obama to spend the day in Copenhagen stumping for Chicago.

Alas, Chicago did not win. Blame it on Rio.

Ted's Head -- Friday, October 9 2009, 11:29 pm

I like men.

Ted's Head -- Saturday, October 10 2009, 02:46 pm

Damn. My post was hijacked. Unfair. Almost as unfair as an A-Rod 2-run HR in the bottom of the 9th off of Joe Nathan to tie the score, an obvious blown call that favored the Yanks, or Tex's GW HR in extra innings - off the top of the wall. All unfair.

Fuck yeah.

(even though i am a victim, HA! very well played)
