Comic for Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Posted: 6:40 am, Wednesday, May 20th
Oh, good, they're done talking to Wolf. That whole sequence didn't play out quite like it did in my head - it's one of those things that if it had been three strips in three days, it would've been fine, but with the three-a-day schedule, it seemed to go on too long. Thankfully, I never wrote the *other* series I had thought of doing for the rightening of Wolfman. It was terrible and preachy and involved a ROTC friend of the gang's dying in Iraq. I really cannot stress enough how terrible it would've been had I written that. I would've looked at it in the archives and punched myself in the knee.
Honestly, I don't think I've ever been so excited to see the calendar tick over to late May. I was talking with one of my fellow Teaching Fellows last night before taking an asbolute shitstorm of a final (I did terribly on a part matching characters to picture books! whoo!), this coworker of his told him that he wouldn't re-live his first year of teaching for any amount of money in the world. My year hasn't been that bad, but I can't wait to never have to learn how to do every single Goddamn thing in a classroom at the same time again.
I assigned my juniors Catcher in the Rye the other day. Their reaction upon being handed the book, with its iconically spare cover; "Mista, this book look mad boring." Their reaction after reading the first eight pages, "Mista, he says 'Goddam' all the time, this book hot!" Glad to know the standards are high, squad. I've done a great job.
Russ Feingold (D-Wi) has a video blog (people don't still stay vlog, do they? God, that one irritated me) in which he looks forward to Wilco and gives a shout-out to Eu Clare's Bon Iver. What?
Some great clips of Jon Stewart calling out Obama on some suckage. I can't believe we still have this don't-ask-don't-tell shit, but I s'pose the military would be the last ones to embrace change. Aside from Mississippi.
Last thing, because I have to jet, but I'm bummed I'm not a lady, because Drink and Draw Like a Lady sounds like a lot of fun. I'll just have to keep drinking 'til I'm about to pass out and scribbling any ol' shit on a Wacom tab, live a dude.

MJL -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 08:49 am Country rooooooad, take me hooome, to the place, I BELOOONG...
I see Frogo's alt text there, but the above is what jumped to mind.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 09:49 am That's mountain country, though. This is plain country.
MJL -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 09:52 am 'tis a valid point. Here in the Midwest, that's about all we get.
tree -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 12:04 pm I'm reminded of when Bullfrog picked me up in C-bus for the drive to South Bend to start junior year in a car with only - methinks - AM radio.
CK -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 12:37 pm When is your official last day of school, Bullfrog? Can we expect daily comics again in the summer?
(I support that idea, btw. But no pressure.)
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 04:08 pm I think maybe, but I'm not promising. I have 16 days of classes left and then I have to proctor Regents for a week or so. Last day of classes is Monday, June 15. I could not be more excited.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 04:09 pm And we will certainly not be having dailies come fall, because I'll be taking not one but *two* grad courses, thanks to BC and it's loverly scheduling.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 10:17 pm Papi just finally hit his first dong of the year, and got the silent treatment when he got back to the dugout. When asked who was to blame, he actually said, "You know Pedroia, the little bastard, he's always up to something." Papi is Goddamn awesome.
e -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 10:32 pm Mmm... Ann Sather (and I retreat to a happy place with cinnamon rolls and unlimited coffee).
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 20 2009, 10:42 pm Seriously, those cinnamon rolls are to commit genocide for.
DFFD -- Thursday, May 21 2009, 12:46 am I know you like the big goofy bastard and all, but I don't think you can call anybody "awesome" when they're OPS-ing .610...
ktbb -- Thursday, May 21 2009, 06:36 am I don't know Ann Sather, but the icing on Jen's face says it all. Mmmmmmmmmm. It's the mark of a great novelist/cartoonist to include the choice little details that tell you the most. Bullfrog = the Viginia Woolf of the comics page.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 21 2009, 08:00 am Good Lord, I'm blushing.
Great article on Keith Foulke in today's Globe, who in 2005 almost drove me insane. He's turned the reins over on that job to Julio Lugo these days, but, still.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 21 2009, 08:02 am The mark of great food is that you don't care how you look while you're eating it; you just need to shovel it down. Ann Sather's rolls are totally like that. God, those things are magnificent.
Coach -- Thursday, May 21 2009, 11:37 am DFFD, 610 OPS!, that is horrible! Almost as horrible as when Ripken's when he had the singular focus of breaking the streak. It shows that Ripken was a "ME" player and not a "team" player like the great Derek Jeter.. hahah..

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 21 2009, 04:29 pm I can't see YouTube at school, so I'm not sure what all you two are shooting back and forth at each other, but I bet ND could sell out the tea and crumpet zone at the new Pit of Hell better than ye olde Goate Fuckers are managing.
DFFD -- Thursday, May 21 2009, 11:25 pm Jeter's pansy ass wouldn't even be playing SS if not for Ripken. Does that guy EVER hit a ball hard???
Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 21 2009, 11:33 pm In the new Pit of Hell he can reach the fourth row.
My apologies, gang, I'm not going to get a Friday strip together. I promise four next week to make up for it!
DFFD -- Friday, May 22 2009, 01:05 am by the way bullfrog - I really like the way that globe article makes Schilling look like the douche that he is.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 22 2009, 06:33 am Foulke pulls no punches. Nice series out of the O's, by the way. Thanks for the help.

Or, as Holden Caulfield would say, "goddam."
Again, my apologies. I'll hit with four next week - let's shoot for a Tuesday-Friday schedule, since everyone will be grilling on Monday, anyway.
Coach -- Friday, May 22 2009, 08:53 am DFFD, Jeter certainly hit the ball hard enough on October 9, 1996.....
DFFD -- Friday, May 22 2009, 09:53 am no actually he didn't since it didn't even get to row 1. Typical response though. Being proud of having a game handed to you by the umpires. Congrats.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 22 2009, 10:09 am Seriously, that is some Yankee pride right there.
Ted's Head -- Friday, May 22 2009, 02:11 pm My favorite AL shortstop is Julio Lugo.
RJF -- Friday, May 22 2009, 11:32 pm Is a point of this road trip plotline for Jen to start hating Ron and losing her crush in the face of what an actual relationship with him would mean? It seems to be heading that way.
