There's got to be a morning after...

Posted: 6:30 am, Monday, May 18th

Homeboy gave his big and much-discussed commencement address at the House that Ed built yesterday. CNN carried it live, which was really bizarre, and my mother called me to make sure I watched it. I, of course, began tearing up almost immediately, because it was fucking Barack Obama talking about what a special place the Dome is, and I really get all verklempt at shit like that, because, for all its myriad problems, it really is a nice and special place. The myriad problems were soon on display in the inevitable dude who started screaming about pro-life or something. The Times talks all about it, here. The protests when Shitwit desecrated campus were much more muted, for whatever that may be worth.

I don't know why I'm still going on with this Ron and Wolf tete-a-tete. It'll be over soon, I promise. I'm just ruminating, I guess. I don't know. I hope I'm not doing the straw man thing here - I'm trying to do an honest conversation between two people who differ in opinion. That's mostly all.

My final in my adolescent lit class is tomorrow, and then I get two weeks until a Shakespeare course during June. I'm going to miss one class for the Baracklyn Cyclones game on the 23rd - by the way, CK and 51, you're in on that, remember, but I'm looking forward to the class. The last Shakespeare class I took was in my junior year, and it was one of the hardest classes I took at ND. My prof was a bulldog, man.

I watched Streetcar Named Desire for the first time last night. We watched about a half hour of it in class once, but the kids thought it was really slow, and now that I've seen it through, I'm glad we aborted it. The script had some really strange changes made to it because of the censor board of the 1950s, and my kids generally think whatever has been committed to film is the official version.

Tree posted this, but it was yesterday, which isn't a high-readership day... A brilliant GQ article on what a fucker Rummy was. Man, it's been only a bit over 100 days, and it already just seems like so long ago we had those assholes running the show...

I'm listening to the terminally retarded Black Eyed Peas' latest right now, Boom Boom Pow. It is better than My Humps, but so is cyanide. I bet some people will think this song is really expanding the band's horizons. Those people should be beaten with a crowbar.

2.0 and I saw Doubt the other day. I read the script to this one last summer and thought it was brilliant, and the movie was perhaps even better. I'm not a Meryl Streep fan, but she fucking kills as Sister Aloysius. Just an absolutely brilliant film. I can't believe it wasn't up for the main Oscar. BUTTON!

New candy review: Snickers Dark - tremendous. Twix Triple Chocolate - awful.

Miyaa -- Monday, May 18 2009, 02:15 pm

Dark Chocolate and Snickers --- Win.

How can triple chocolate Twix be awful?

Bullfrog -- Monday, May 18 2009, 03:49 pm

I don't know how they did it, but they did.

Pat S. -- Monday, May 18 2009, 11:20 pm

Imaginery? I believe that is an imaginary spelling.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 19 2009, 06:06 am

D'oh! I've been writing imagery for the kids a lot lately, and I think it carried over.
