Comic for Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Posted: 6:25 am, Wednesday, April 22nd
Long-timers with a good memory for the strip may think this one seems a bit familiar. Well, it's part of the New York life to occasionally question the city that lends and mends and tests, and I think the current economic climate might make Jen take pause.
Any of our baseball lovers relatively terse out there? I was giving it a shot, but not getting anywhere. It needs work. Brevity is not my strong suit. I was working on the home metaphor, and then thought about the number aspect, and wasn't sure which was to go. The numbers of baseball are easier for small kids to understand than the yearning to return home - unless, of course, the numbers in question are Chien-Ming Wang's ERA, in which case, whoo. Ha-HA, I kill me. I know, I know, it's an easy mark, but, seriously, C-M, I love you. Don't ever change. I mean it.
Jane Austen is everywhere.
I know I'm hitting this well a lot, but I just flipped by My9 and saw - you'll never believe this - a homer to right field at the Silo. (Yes, I know it's a small sample size. But like the number 34.50, it is never not funny.)
Brutal Legend has an October 13 drop date. Hot damn.
Big tip o' the hat to MNP and Mr. MNP, who yesterday created LIFE! (Or did so nine months ago, depending on your theological views.) And the list of names that I have to remember continues to grow.
I'm listening to a few tracks by a band called Flobots right now - I believe they are what Cake would be if Cake was 90% rap and 10% rock, but with roughly the same amount of horn that Cake currently has (or had - I don't know their status). I think I dig. Also in music, the Tinted Windows album dropped yesterday. Tinted Windows, obviously, is a band made up of former members of the Pumpkins, Cheap Trick, Fountains of Wayne, and Hanson. The song I'm listening to right is, um, kind of awesome. I'd be happier if the vocalist was the guy from Cheap Trick instead of the brother from Hanson, but, yeah, not bad, actually. I don't know what to do with this.
YES. Even better than Oregon Trail online - old Sierra On-Line games.. online!

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, April 22 2009, 06:24 am The last line in this article is aces.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, April 22 2009, 06:31 am Caprica got an A- from the AV Club - that's higher than I was expecting. I don't know, for some reason, none of the trailers did it for me. TeaVee, we may have to check it out, after all.
Joe B -- Wednesday, April 22 2009, 09:07 am Kate Beaton's right-- I'd rather see her Pride and Prejudice than that overproduced Marvel version. Kate's got the right attitude for it.
And today, it finally happened, I guessed what would be said in the next 5 Bucks comic.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, April 22 2009, 01:18 pm Domers - Bookstore just ended. A football-heavy team won, but the most important thing is this photo from back in the day:

Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 23 2009, 12:04 am My favorite knock on the Silo (five homers today, four in regulation!):

Ondy -- Thursday, April 23 2009, 10:49 am Where's this nickname "The Silo" coming from? Is this your creation or something that is getting blogged around?
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 23 2009, 10:54 am I got it from Yanks Fan-Sox Fan (yfsf.org), and just think it's great. It's got the dignity of an old college basketball arena, and the indignity of being a launching pad for homers.
Ondy -- Thursday, April 23 2009, 12:16 pm I like it.
All I know is that at least Citi looks different than Shea. The new Yankee at first glance is the same damn thing as the old one.
ktbb -- Thursday, April 23 2009, 01:21 pm Online internet baseball radio help requested!
I thought some of you baseball experts might be able to help. So, there's this Cleveland Indians / KC Royals game on at the moment, but the only way to listen online seems to be through the MLB website, which makes you pay, *and* seems to block other AM radio stations from streaming the game live on their sites. Is this true? Does the Corporate Man block the enjoyment of the sounds of summer via an online monopoly? Sigh. I can listen to cricket on the radio here, but that's not as much fun...
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 23 2009, 01:41 pm Yep, you cannot rebroadcast without expression written permission from the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball.
