Good thing I didn't have him say AIG.

Posted: 6:35 am, Monday, March 23rd

I've still not managed to see BSG, because when 2.0 and I had 51 and TeaVee over the other night, I thought it would be a good idea to have a lot of wine and fall asleep on the couch. (At least I did not put a lampshade on my head.) This after falling asleep during Duplicity Friday night. I don't know why I think scheduling things for the evening is a good idea anymore. Anyway, my apologies to the ladies, and please, still no spoilers.

I actually have always liked Return of the Jedi, but this all makes a pretty convincing case that it's where Lucas began losing his way. The bit about the word Ewok never being in the film is pretty damning.

Also over the weekend, 2.0 and I happened by Sycamore, where they were grilling outside for the coming of spring (nevermind that it was 40 over the weekend in NYC, and actually snowed some on Friday). They were talking that they may do the grill thing every weekend in the summer, which is a bloody brilliant idea, because the GYC's menu has tanked the past few years. Sycamore has more space, better beer, and flowers on hand to buy after I inevitably say something stupid to 2.0.

I actually haven't gotten a chance to read this whole article on Costa Rica yet, but, mmmm, Costa Rica.

I was told when I was first going through the Fellows program that March was an unending testicle grinder. I laughed - how hard could it be? Then I look up today and notice it's only March 23rd. Are you fucking kidding me? This month sucks ass. I've still got two and a half weeks 'til Spring Break starts. That is like an infinite amount of time. Lord.

So true that Boba getting killed off at the expense of a burp joke is pathetic.

Author doesn't specifically mention Chewbacca's Tarzan-yell, but that's another horrible one.

LOL Aunt Beru's haircut.

The article certainly nails it, thanks for posting that!.

Oh yes Return sucked. It's amazing to read fifty reasons and then think of more! The outfit Leia is in, with Jabba... AS IF Jabba had someone on staff to make a fitted thing like that?

In the original concept Lucas was doing an interesting dance between two contradictory concepts: recreating the look and feel of an old serial, and making it look so real it seemed to be filmed on location. It sounds crazy to do BOTH of those things at once but he walked the line and made a fun movie. And PS: as far as I was concerned it was the only thing that made me want to see a fun film about a WAR, a subject we were a little touchy about at that date.

Even the second film didn't get the balance right between mock serious and realism. It was just too hard, and we let it slide, because it was still a pretty good adventure flick. But Return, forget it. We stood in line for THIS?

Speaking of Lucas, Howard the Duck is finally coming out on DVD. My wife wondered if Lucas re-made the special effects shots for it.

I have a bad feeling about Jen's job.

crownover -- Monday, March 23 2009, 02:40 pm

whoa - obama's speaking at ND commencement this year!! http://media.www.ndsmcobserver.com/media/storage/paper660/news/2009/03/23/News/Some-Applaud.Others.Condemn.Obama.Announcement-3679016.shtml

When Lent is over, I'm totally giving this a shot.

MNP -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 08:53 am

That ND article is a riot - do those seniors really think every ND commencement speaker has been pro-life?

MNP -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 08:54 am

And, for all of you feeling basketball deprived this week, ND will play Kentucky tomorrow night at 7pm on ESPN in the 3rd round of the NIT. Hopefully the stands will be slightly more full now that the students are back from break.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 09:57 am

I just love the lockstepness of the pro-life movement on campus. Miniature American flags for everyone!

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 11:14 am

The Irish Icers are beginning their march back to the Frozen Four v. "Bemidji State" this weekend.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 11:15 am

I meant to write more than that, but got interrupted. Uh, go, hockey.

MJL -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 02:48 pm

The Observer has plenty more on Obama today. They also have a link to a PDF of the actual printed issue. Reading it in that format totally put me on the way-back machine.

http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper660/documents/8punlcb4.pdf

Somebody get me two quarter-dogs and a coke.

MJL -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 02:56 pm

Scratch the order for a coke. That was a poor decision. A better choice would've been either a milkshake or an orange gatorade.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 04:05 pm

God, Q-dogs. What a time, what a civilization.

tree -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 04:17 pm

It's stuff like this that makes me question my affiliation with the school. Under this line of argument, a Democratic president should never be allowed on campus. What a joke.

tree -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 04:18 pm

MJL - screw that. You have to get a large red slushy drink. Which you then toss against the side wall of the Crowley music building.

tree -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 04:22 pm

I think the President should recite the Vagina Monologues while he is on stage. Then people will really lose their minds.

tree -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 04:29 pm

Is the St. Mary's student joking about how traffic is going to be f***ed up by Obama's visit? I can't tell.

Can you tell I'm enjoying this?

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 08:34 pm

When did ND jump the shark? Was it when I was allowed on campus? Why must I bring ruination to everything I touch?

Wood -- Tuesday, March 24 2009, 11:35 pm

Im not sure if you all use LinkedIn (its one of the 10k professional networking sites). The Notre Dame alums there are up in arms about Obama. Basically its five pages about abortion which becomes tiring after the first five posts.

One guy suggested the American Catholic Church split from the Vatican and nominated Jenkins as Pope. Not sure if it was a joke but it made me laugh. Beyond that its a bunch of "clever" plays on the home boys name. "He is an Obamanation unto the Lord."

Oddly enough only the male posters are pissed about the abortion thing... odd... I didnt know men could have abortions... besides Schwarzenegger in Junior.

Pat S. -- Wednesday, March 25 2009, 12:38 am

I'm with you on liking Jedi, although that article did make a pretty damning case. Still, the film was worthwhile if only get the resolution of everything. There's denouements up in this.

todd -- Wednesday, March 25 2009, 04:00 am

I'm totally naming my next band Obamanation Unto the Lord.
