Comic for Friday, March 20, 2009

Posted: 6:35 am, Friday, March 20th
Seriously, fare ye well, BSG. The last ten episodes have been tremendous. I may not get to see it tonight, so, please, no spoilers 'til Saturday night, unless you clearly label the spoilers. Grazie. Style note: I am so crazy busy working on something called "a humanities fair" for my school that I drew the freehand style today so that I could get a strip up without killing myself. On the other hand, I was thinking of using a different style for this strip because it kind of represents an alternate-timeline or something - we're obviously not to the point of healing bridges where Lissa, Ron and Pete are going to spend a Friday night on the couch together. But I like the joke. You can probably expect to see some form of it again in a bit over a year, when Lost goes off into that good night,
TeaVee's friend saved a dude from being run over by the C train the other day, and had one of the most exciting Times articles ever written about him.
Speaking of most exciting articles ever, the Lost City of Z was a tremendous New Yorker article maybe three or four years ago, and now it's a book! Which maybe I'll read over summer break. All my latest reading has been YA, as I keep mentioning. In the past few weeks, I've *finally* read Millicent Min, Girl Genius edited (or something - endlessly promoted, at the very least) by our resident girl genius, CK, and Kiki Strike and the Shadow City. Millicent Min: A+. Kiki Strike: B-. Since I like griping about things, I'll talk about Kiki Strike. What a bizarrely paced book.
Oh, also griping: Why didn't Peter Jackson direct Watchmen? I haven't seen the flick yet, but, I mean, shouldn't Jackson at least have produced? He's culled all sort of mad cred for filming unfilmable dork texts and being true to the text, and he can get a more mainstream audience (I mean, there's not $300 million in box office just waiting for a band of Hobbits). I'm sure it's part of the studio nightmare that that film went through, but, I dunno, just thinkin' out loud.
Kind of an interesting piece in the Times yesterday about J.P. Morgan's war room back in the crisis of 1907.
2.0 was flipping through the channels last night and found a thing on Thirteen with Ani DiFranco playing a concert, kind of like Storytellers or something. Ani DiFranco! Haven't seen her in years. Can you believe she's 38?! My God, I feel so old. Anyway, she hasn't lost her chops at all, it was highly enjoyable. Ah, here, it was called the Artist's Den. You know it's quality because the Hold Steady is coming up on the next episode.
One day in, and I've lost nary a Sweet Sixteen team. MNP requested a Five Bucks tourney pool - we will totally rock that next year. I just haven't had a sec in like three weeks now. How am I typing this, you ask? Shut up, I say.

MNP -- Friday, March 20 2009, 08:34 am The Irish have progressed to the third round of the NIT! yes, I'm aware that I'm the only person insane enough to kick my NCAA Tourney-watching hubby off the couch so I can watch a NIT game. On the other hand, it was MUCH more exciting than any of the games last night (we won when Tory Jackson drove end to end for a layup with 2 seconds left), and I went to the school, which no one else in our house could say about any of the other basketball games on last night. More ND action next week for all those interested (yeah, right).
Bullfrog -- Friday, March 20 2009, 09:07 am For some reason, I didn't think the NIT played last night. Thanks for the heads-up, MNP!
I believe the pucksters are in the second round of the CCHA tonight, too.
CK -- Friday, March 20 2009, 10:15 am I did indeed edit (or coedit with my boss, rather) MILLICENT -- the first novel I ever edited. Thanks for the shoutout!
ktbb -- Friday, March 20 2009, 10:35 am STANFORD WONG FLUNKS BIG TIME (a follow-up to MILLICENT MIN -- or really, the same story told from his point of view) made me laugh out loud on the F train once, and made the guy next to me ask why I was giggling so much.
51 -- Friday, March 20 2009, 11:17 am This must be read to the very end:

Also, I love the hand-drawn style Bullfrog. It reminds me of Archie comics for some reason.
Bullfrog -- Friday, March 20 2009, 11:51 am Great, 51, now I want to go murder someone.
2.0 -- Friday, March 20 2009, 12:07 pm
Oh my God there is so much wrong with that article 51...and that last sentence makes me want to carpet bomb that restaurant.
How empty their lives must be that it costs $3K (down $10!) to "feel better."
Bullfrog -- Friday, March 20 2009, 12:16 pm I had a copy of Stanford Flunks Big-Time, but I think one of the kiddies made off with it. So far, my hardback of Sea of Monsters, my paperback of Stanford Flunks Big-Time and my paperback of Twilight have all sprouted legs on me. Only two are mourned.
Miyaa -- Friday, March 20 2009, 12:50 pm I'm watching the NCAA Wrestling championships. They've really emphasized about this guy from Arizona State who is wrestling with one leg, and winning. He probably does well in the ass-kicking competition as well. (Don't forget to watch the Lady Irish as the 7th seed on Saturday. First up: Minnesota. Should they win, they'll probably play against Texas A&M.)
Coach -- Friday, March 20 2009, 03:40 pm BSG?
Dude... not only can you NOT eat an ice cream cone, you are a huge dork!
Bullfrog -- Friday, March 20 2009, 05:49 pm FUCK YES.

Wood -- Friday, March 20 2009, 09:31 pm If only I had gone one year later
engeek -- Friday, March 20 2009, 11:37 pm Is it true you're a teacher?
Bullfrog -- Saturday, March 21 2009, 12:53 am ...It is true I am a teacher, si.
