Comic for Monday, February 9, 2009

Posted: 6:25 am, Monday, February 9th
Alright, back to the bizness. The radio silence (on my behalf) after Friday's strip was entirely intentional. I think I too often muck up the works around here by talking too much, so I thought I'd let Friday's strip settle in and you guys mull it over amongst yourselves. I was pretty happy to see the chatter it sparked (and Coach's diatribe about the papacy, too), so thanks for that. It's rewarding to see. So, my commentary on this whole thing will be brief. Friday's development was a spur-of-the-moment sketch I did a few weeks ago, and I've been mulling over letting it fly ever since. I think I know more or less where we're going, but some things are still not entirely concrete in ye olde head.
Regarding a few of the comments from Friday:
- Why is Wyoming Pete's kind of state, out of curiosity?
- Wood, good work starting a bar fight. To show my solidarity, I will break a chair over our art teacher's head today, as he is a punk from SoCal, himself, and was very badly talking smack about the Irish a few weeks ago.
- Why do I not read xkcd more often?
- Jen will probably go more postal; Pete will probably be ticked and then want details.
So, as life continues on in the strip, I hope everyone had a nice weekend and did not have money on the Irish hoopsters. Shit, are we not strong.
I love whenever the Onion embeds philosophy in its articles/sketches.
Seriously, I remember trying the Onion News Network when it first started and thinking it was lame, but they've clearly hit their stride. Brilliant!
The new MWF schedule has precluded me from talking too much about Lost - how have people been liking the new season? Some of the episodes have been as top-notch as possible. The one with the H-bomb was great. Likewise, the final episodes of Battlestar have been awesome. The two-parter that just concluded was intense. Do not fuck with Laura Roslyn.
Did you guys know that the dude who made the Obama Hope poster is the same dude who made the Andre the Giant Has a Posse thing? That is so fucking cool.
The New York Comic Con was this past weekend; I was not there because I am simply not a big deal. Also, I have, you know, real-world obligations and stuff like that. Were I there, though, I'd see the debut of whatever software app this is that delivers comic books to the iPhone, which seems like a Goddamn brilliant idea. It'll never kill the actual comic book - well, not for another ten or twenty years - by which time hopefully the lovely staff of Rocketship will have retired happily to Fiji.
Five days separate me from "winter recess." On the other side of winter recess lies the gauntlet known as "March." I will make several "jokes" about the lousy Smarch weather during that month; you have been forewarned.

SH -- Monday, February 9 2009, 08:06 am "We sure can't stay with you guys forever." Is Pete maturing?
CKCK -- Monday, February 9 2009, 08:24 am Hmmm, I want to know what's going through Ron's head. Lissa seems to have woken up thinking long-term (which also seems a little more mature of her, yes?) -- I wonder if Ron's out looking for an apartment with similar thoughts or just rank fear. -- CK
CK -- Monday, February 9 2009, 08:24 am Sorry for the multiple initials there -- I didn't think my name had shown up in the box, when, clearly, it did it three times.
Zero -- Monday, February 9 2009, 08:34 am Now, now, let's not give Laura Roslyn too many pats on the back here. if she'd she'd been out, you know, actually acting like a president instead of wallowing in self-pity the whole uprising probably never would have happened. But I'm probably a frakkin' toaster-lover.
hey, looks like A-rod and Pettitte will have lots to talk about, eh?

51 -- Monday, February 9 2009, 08:58 am I vote rank fear. I'm betting Ron is just assuming that the hookup was a huge mistake and not considering Lissa might be thinking otherwise.
Battlestar is amazing. I feel sorry for those of you who don't watch it. Also Friday Night Lights is terrific. I have no idea why everyone refuses to watch that show.
Miyaa -- Monday, February 9 2009, 10:27 am Wyoming has off-track-betting sports bars, is surprisingly underrated in the beautiful girls department, and as I understand it would be the very last place Pete's bookies would think about looking for him. Wyoming is basically Nevada without the slot machine complex.
MJL -- Monday, February 9 2009, 12:32 pm And here's the most exciting and riveting comment post of the day:
Can anybody out there link me to a decent and free PDF comparison tool that can run on Windows?
Ted's Head -- Monday, February 9 2009, 12:44 pm Nothing to do with nothing, but i got a teacher question. Do teachers get vacation days? Or do you just get the same breaks as the kids, including summer? I can't ever recall any teachers I had taking lengthy vacations, but then again, they got winter break and spring break and summer. What's the typical policy on this?
MJL -- Monday, February 9 2009, 01:05 pm Fair JJ taught for almost 5 years. She had 3-ish vacation days. It might even have been 2 days, I forget. This was at a private school... A union-represented teacher might fair slightly better.
Bullfrog -- Monday, February 9 2009, 01:38 pm I have 10 days I can take a year, although you are strongly dissauded from taking them. I'd have to be out of my mind to take a lengthy break my first year. Once I get tenure: no pants, vacation every Friday.
