Congrats to Steelers fans everywhere - Drolett and Stack on this site, specifically. For the third year in a row, I watched the game with my buddy Jeff, who has what can't even be considered a grasp on football. It's more like he has his hand resting on the surface of football. He was bemoaning the lack of "completed passes" and "100-yard plays" in collitch football, which nearly made my head asplode. And then, of course, Harrison intercepted Warner and ran it back 100 yards right before the half, so then I had to listen to Jeff crow about knowing what he's talking about. Friends are barely worth it sometimes.
Today's strip almost needs to be annotated. "Buttercup" in panel three is a reference to the Powerpuff Girl of that name. And I don't know if that last panel is even remotely recognizable unless you're me. Here's what I'm going for:
I love that movie.
Before I begin a ridiculously long video round-up for no clear reason, I thought I'd show off a bit of fan art that ktbb sent me all the way from Merry Olde. She ran Jen through the Obamafier.
Somebody on Facebook joined a group "You know you're from Albany when..." which was actually much better than I thought. It turns out my hometown is not as horrifically nondescript as I thought. (Actually, my hometown *is*, since I wasn't actually from Albany.) Anyway, it made me think of Ranger Danger, which I've mentioned on this website before, but before the YouTube revolution really hit, so I couldn't show you what I was talking about. Ranger Danger was this terrible live-action skit thing that aired during the commercial breaks of cartoons on WXXA in the afternoon (the Disney afternoon, of course). My buddies and I - and every rational human being - hated these fucking ads. I have no idea what they were supposed to achieve aside from a red-tinted rage. "A-yah," was the dude's catch-phrase, in case you're wondering.
God, I hope those are somehow the only thing that the aliens find when they visit the ashy ruins of our civilization in the future. They'll nuke the remains a few extra times just to make sure we're finished.
Continuing the Monday media-thon, here's a lawyer ad from 2.0's homeville:
And here's Pee-Wee telling you not to do crack. I'm not sure if Pee-Wee reached those most likely to do crack.
Speaking of the Disney Afternoon, I don't remember Duck Tales' theme song being so Wham! inspired.
Oh, good Lord, the Chip n' Dale's theme song was even worse. I can't look back.

Shoot, I misposted the Rochester lawyer ad. 2.0, when you're awake, post up the real deal, please.

I may never forgive you for introducing me to Ranger Danger.

plenty of schools in pittsburgh had a 2-hour delay today, which is really kind of silly but if my school would have done it, it would have been amazing. oh well, you can't have it all. there was a bit too much post-game couch-burning for my taste, but to each his own.
CK, that was great. 51, just be grateful you didn't grow up in the Albany area. He was unavoidable for a year or so there.

Don't be knocking the Disney Afternoon Soundtrack. I actually have that CD somewhere back in my parent's house.

Oh God. Why do I seem to remember Ranger Danger? Was I skipping classes, getting drunk on weekday afternoons, and watching cartoons on local TV stations in the CD? This can be the only possible explanation.
Man do I miss fraternity life.....

Bullfrog, you're probably not surprised by this, but I got both references in the strip.
There should be more 100 yard plays in the Super Bowl as well. I mean we've had to go through 42 years before we got one.

I don't know what you're talking about man. The Duck Tales theme song is badass.
