Comic for Monday, January 5, 2009

Has everyone made their no-doubt-already-busted resolutions? I've got a bunch, as usual, and so far I'm sticking to about half of them, and half-sticking to all of 'em. Hey, I'm a creature of habit, five days is a long time for me.
One of the resolutions, as always, is to eat better. So Smitten Kitchen's broccoli rabe and onion pizza will probably be made later in the week. I'll let you know how it hits me. I've been rocking a sweet-ass pasta salad with sun-dried tomatoes lately, too, from America's Test Kitchen/Cooks Illustrated. There's a registration involved there, but you can get a one-day pass.
(Other resolutions, which I'm sure you're dying to know about, include getting my grading done in a more timely fashion, and keeping the kitchen cleaner. THRILL!)
2.0 and I saw Slumdog Millionaire the other day, perhaps the first movie I've seen in the theater since Batman (although I have a nagging feeling I saw something else somewhere along the line). Highly recommended. I don't know if it's a function of getting older or just the big screen irritates my eyes or what, but, God, I tear up at movies a lot. The fucking previews had me ready to go, and then Slumdog plays out like the most horrifying series of events you can conceive of on a personal level for most of its run. And yet it's still a wonderful little movie. Go see it.
Sign that 2009 may be the end times: Rachel Ray-designed "Yum-O" Ugg boots.

Miyaa -- Monday, January 5 2009, 01:56 pm Not that someone actually wrote a Dec. 21, 2012 book for dummies? (The day that the Mayan calender supposedly ended, although I thought that was 12/24/2011.)
Bullfrog -- Monday, January 5 2009, 07:03 pm After 2012 and Y2K back in the day, are we about done with the apocalypse-on-a-timeline thing? I know it was a big deal back in the 1800s, but it seems kind of retrograde these days.
Bullfrog -- Monday, January 5 2009, 07:06 pm Geez, huge game right now - G'town and the Irish at the JACC. Go Irish, beat Hoyas!
MNP -- Tuesday, January 6 2009, 08:01 am That was quite a game last night, wasn't it? I thought for sure we were somehow going to manage to lose, but the longest home winning streak in the country held up...go Irish!!
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, January 6 2009, 08:26 am Every time I watch the Irish, they nearly blow the lead. But they win. So I guess I'll be sure to tune in to the big stretch coming up, almost all of which is on ESPN.
And how 'bout them Bucks. I hate Texas, but the fact that the Columbus Dispatch has, the day after a nut-crushing (no pun intended) loss, "1872 days since tOSU last lost to Michigan in football" on their sports headlines, is just hilarious.
What an awkwardly worded sentence.
MJL -- Tuesday, January 6 2009, 02:27 pm Not all that long ago, in this space, there was a link to the logo themes that were NOT used for the Obama campaign. Who can help a brother out?
MJL -- Tuesday, January 6 2009, 03:14 pm Nevermind... tracked it down while on a boring conference call.
