Mmmm, San Diego Statecakes.

Posted: 6:30 am, Friday, September 5th

One week down, I guess about 39 left!

So, I've got Homeboy's next ad for you, right here. It starts with shots of McCain's wife, and goes, "Watch for GOP convention - $4,500. Dress for GOP convention - $3,000. Earrings for GOP convention - $280,000. Average household income in America - $50,000. Change - priceless." Run with it.

Man, what a bummer that My Name is Bruce is looking like crap. I'll totally Netflix it anyway. I cannot deny The Chin.

Another thing I cannot deny, as anyone who's been reading the site for any length of time knows: Peanuts. Pour one out for Bill Melendez, one of the producers of the Charlie Brown Christmas. 91 years and a well-earned rest, good sir. Thanks for all the teary-eyed December evenings after Linus gives his speech.

The first interview of the Gallagher brothers I ever read was back in high school in a Rolling Stone (back before the magazine hit the total shit that it is now), and I have to say, I hated them, terribly. But then I read this bit where Noel's talking about Guitar Hero.

If it puts little plastic guitars into kids' hands and fires their imaginations, I think that's a good thing. It's harmless fun, innit.

I'd rather that genre of video games than somebody getting their fucking head chopped off with a samurai sword while getting fucked by a goblin up the arse with a laser. Do you know what I mean?

Noel, brother, I totally understand.

I can totally deny the music of the 80s, since I was kept in a box in upstate New York for the entire decade, but I cannot deny Carrie Brownstein, my favorite member of Sleater-Kinney, and since she's on this week's All Songs Considered, I have to say, listen to it. The topic: Were the 80s Really That Bad? All signs point to yes.

Oh, one final thing I cannot deny - FUCKING IRISH FOOTBALL. WHOOOO! I am finally excited for the season, holla. Good thing, since the season starts tomorrow. Former co-worker Ivor, send me your predictions if you're reading. If not, I'll try to hit you up tomorrow.

Go Irish! Beat... Aztecs... Sigh.

I'm with Lissa...I don't know.

Bullfrog -- Friday, September 5 2008, 06:41 am

I'll wait to let some other people think it through before it gets spelled out.

I do promise, however, that I won't do a football joke every single week. With a three-a-week sked, that would just be obnoxious. (If ND somehow beats USC at the end of the season, though, I do reserve the right to make this strip all Irish football all the time.)

Forever?

Is it because the Irish are playing cupcakes?

People keep saying that about Mizzou, too, and I keep saying "STOP talking about cupcakes! I'm getting hungry!"

Ted's Head -- Friday, September 5 2008, 01:56 pm

There was an old movie called "They Call Me Bruce" about some Asian dude named Bruce, who kept getting confused with Bruce Lee. One scene I remember was he got hit by a car and it was a Toyota, and he gets up and goes "I just got hit by a Toyota, oh what a feeling" - back when "Oh what a feeling" was Toyota's slogan. Real funny stuff. You should Netflix that one instead.

Mmm...cupcakes. Preferably these cupcakes:

Michigan seems rather overwhelmed against Miami of Ohio, only winning 14-6. Ohio State had trailed most of their game versus Ohio before a couple of INT for TD seals their victory, 26-14. I ask you, is it so freaking hard to have actual working HDTV screens in a bar, where people are buying themselves into a stupor?

Bullfrog -- Saturday, September 6 2008, 04:49 pm

Through a quarter and a half, it looks like it is going to be a very long year for the Irish again.

Miyaa -- Saturday, September 6 2008, 05:20 pm

How do you miss a 27 yard Field Goal, Walker?!

Miyaa -- Saturday, September 6 2008, 05:22 pm

Nevermind, I didn't see the center messed up the snap.

Bullfrog -- Saturday, September 6 2008, 06:21 pm

Boy, we suck.

Bullfrog -- Saturday, September 6 2008, 06:49 pm

Christ on a cross, the fact that they're celebrating a Goddamn go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter against San fucking Diego fucking State is the most fucking embarrassing thing I've ever seen out of a fucking Irish team in history. Fuck me, offensive genius, it took you until the fucking fourth quarter to realize that slant patterns may be a good idea? Fuckety fuck fuck squirrel, you'd better score 20 more fucking points in this fucking game.

todd -- Saturday, September 6 2008, 09:17 pm

A win is a win. Floyd looks good. Uh... the weather was nice?

That's all I've got.

Bullfrog -- Sunday, September 7 2008, 08:11 am

I've calmed down a bit. Our run game has me terrified, but most of the passing game, I can live with. And we all knew d-line would be trouble. Still, fuck me.
