Comic for Friday, July 25th, 2008

Posted: 7:40 am, Friday, July 25th
And with that, my "vacation" begins. Thanks for everybody being so down with that. (As opposed to down "on" that. English!) I do have some good news, though, I received confirmation last night that there is no DOE policy against blogs, and from a content standpoint, I have received the "you're fine" rating. So I will not have to discontinue the blog because of any departmental BS. Now we just have to see if I can keep my sanity during the year with this sucker. I think I'll manage. But I was kind of worried about that DOE stuff, so, yeah, good news on that front.
A quick slew of links, and then I'll leave you people alone for a while. I'll be checking in, and, yeah, if something screwy happens and someone hires me on Monday, I might be back later in the week. Regardless, next Monday, for sure (and I'd like to say that, for making this decision Wednesday night, I ended the week at a good cliffhanger-ish).
The Comics Curmudgeon lost on Jeopardy the other night, which I missed, because, well, yeah. He writes about it at some considerable length, right here. He at least got on - I was slaughtered by that online test. (Further Curmudgeon-y: Huh!)
It's funny 'cause it's true. C'mon, Sox, put the fucking boot on the throat this weekend, will you? END THEM.
Yeah, this is about right:
Speaking of He of the Wit of Shit, I've long since given up hope on any prosecution, but Slate further breaks it down to let us know who could be tried for what from the Administration of Shame.
Screech is writing a tell-all? I'm totally reading it (unless, as the article supposes, it's about the New Class - did anybody watch that thing?).
Alright, off I go! I'll be back, I promise!

Pat S. -- Friday, July 25 2008, 10:08 am Godspeed, good sir. Also I stayed up until 4 a.m. last night playing Rock Band at my friend's place. So I kind of envy you your sleep at the moment.
51 -- Friday, July 25 2008, 12:03 pm OOH! Jazzed about this:

Bullfrog -- Friday, July 25 2008, 12:14 pm I'm not sleeping, man, the wheels never stop! I can, however, precisely predict when I will be asleep. 5:45, bet on it. Right when I'm sitting there in the IMAX tryin' to watch Dark Knight. I guarantee you I'll pass out for at least 5 minutes.
I maintain that the best Harry Potter game will come after they're done with the seven books, and you will not be Harry Potter. Grand Theft: Hogwarts is the only way to do Harry Potter video game justice.
TeaVee -- Friday, July 25 2008, 01:05 pm Like my new moniker?
This is exciting:
New Wii Zelda and Pikmin titles are confirmed, but Shigeru Miyamoto also offered vague hints that we might also see a new New Super Mario Bros. and perhaps even a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy.
TeaVee -- Friday, July 25 2008, 01:05 pm I should make it clear that I was formerly known as 15's Lil' Sis.
Pat S. -- Friday, July 25 2008, 03:21 pm Ooh, I saw Dark Knight at the IMAX myself yesterday. Unbelievably cool.
Bullfrog -- Friday, July 25 2008, 10:27 pm Evidently, clicking on the IMAX button on Fandango doesn't necessarily mean that you are buying an IMAX ticket. Sonofabitch! Excellent movie, though.
Wood -- Monday, July 28 2008, 05:49 pm It's been one day and I am already missing the comic.
crownover -- Tuesday, July 29 2008, 09:03 am agreed. i'm getting the shakes... but it's worth it for jeremiah's sanity :)
MJL -- Tuesday, July 29 2008, 02:34 pm Holy moly...

MJL -- Tuesday, July 29 2008, 02:35 pm My favorite quote from the above article: "In Shaliuhe, 26 small, inefficient cement plants were dynamited."
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, July 30 2008, 06:26 am I'll be back soon, I promise (although it does bolster my ego when I hear how much you guys miss the strip). In the meantime, this article about the MetroCard machines going down during rush hour the past few days kind of cheers me about having to drive to my summer school placement all month.

2.0 -- Wednesday, July 30 2008, 07:34 am That article totally explains the bread line that was outside my station the other day!
MNP -- Wednesday, July 30 2008, 08:07 am I still come here every morning expecting my morning dose of comics with my coffee. so sad. i'm gonna start reading the archives now.
CK -- Wednesday, July 30 2008, 10:38 am Me too -- I keep checking back for both the conversation and in hopes of a comic . . .
MJL -- Wednesday, July 30 2008, 03:30 pm I got a legit 1020 on today's http://www.jumble.com. Cookie, please.
MNP -- Thursday, July 31 2008, 08:20 am Happy Birthday MJ! Welcome to the land-o-30.
MJL -- Thursday, July 31 2008, 08:47 am Thanks MNP!
CK -- Thursday, July 31 2008, 11:13 am Hey, all of you interested in HP: We're publishing a new J. K. Rowling book for charity called "The Tales of Beedle the Bard," a collection of wizarding fairy tales with commentary by Dumbledore. It's pretty cool! Out December 4 (just in time for Christmas).

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 31 2008, 01:06 pm Geez, I learn to teach and MJ turns 30. Some world. Happy birthday, buddy!
Miyaa -- Thursday, July 31 2008, 04:18 pm I must try making zucchini bread. Maybe the the only way for the rest of the family (except me and my mother) to eat zucchini. http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/001330zucchini_bread.php
Also, I had no idea this was possible until my sister made some last night: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chocolate-Banana-Bread/Detail.aspx
dave -- Thursday, July 31 2008, 05:11 pm manny is gone:

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 31 2008, 08:44 pm I know. I don't know how I'm feeling about it. I think we gave up too much without getting a bullpen arm - any bullpen arm - in return. (By the way, how badly is the Masterson experiment bombing? Fuck, dude, what happened?) I'm OK with losing Hansen, he's not much good, and I'm OK with losing Moss, he's never going to crack the outfield rotation. But both? And we're paying most of Manny's salary? I actually am pretty high on Bay, but, damn, I dunno, seems like one ought to have been good enough. Turning three players, one of whom is Manny, and seven mil into Jason Bay just seems lackluster.
That said, thanks for the memories, Manny. Sorry you had to be a giant douche on your way out the door, but no hard feelings.
Ted's Head -- Thursday, July 31 2008, 11:44 pm Manny's stats against the Yankees:
200 Games - .321 BA, .411 OBP, 55 HR, 163 RBI, 137 Runs, 106 BB
Brian Cashman should send Theo a bouquet of flowers. A big bouquet.
Bullfrog -- Friday, August 1 2008, 08:42 am Yeah, I'll miss him murdering the Goats. I think all those numbers were overshadowed by 0 swings on 3 pitches against Mariano last month.
Bullfrog -- Friday, August 1 2008, 08:44 am I can't think of too many times that the Post and Daily News have both had the same cover, but "Good Riddance" is on the back of both of 'em today.
Wood -- Friday, August 1 2008, 09:14 am In theo we trust...
http://www.xkcd.com/ I also feel obligated to post xkcd, a comic i found to fill the days during the Frog Hiatus. Today's is particularly amusing. If you do go make sure you read the rollover message too. They are funnier than the comics sometimes.
zero -- Friday, August 1 2008, 09:27 am in theo we trust, indeed. Made the best of an impossible situation. Hell, he hasn't had to trade an immensely popular superstar who started dogging it since, since . . . hell, since 2004, when he traded Nomar for what seemed like nothing. And that worked out okay, right.
Sent a good message. Don't be a jerkwad. And I wonder if all the Yankee fans who hated him for years are going to be the ones calling loudest for him to be in pinstripes next year.
Zero
for my 5 bucks hiatus break, I offer http://nobodyscores.loosenutstudio.com/ ,
which is about as deranged as they come (but pretty!)
Ted's Head -- Friday, August 1 2008, 11:24 am No sane Yankee fan could hate Manny. We just hated that he played so damn good against the Yankees. I, for one, will be clamoring for him to be in pinstripes next year.
Red Sox I hate, and you guys can keep, would be Varitek, Papelbon, Wakefield, and Damon. Indifferent on everyone else.
2.0 -- Friday, August 1 2008, 01:07 pm Damon does not play for the Sox. Nor has he ever.
2.0 -- Friday, August 1 2008, 03:41 pm Law folks:
Wondered what your take was on Obama's exams, and how they reveal some of his thinking.
