Comic for Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Posted: 1:20 am, Wednesday, July 16th
For some reason, I watched most of the All-Star game last night, albeit with the volume down. I gave up shortly after midnight, in the interest of getting some shut-eye. Why I didn't give up shortly after ten o'clock in order to get *much* shut-eye is beyond me. Our very own 51 was on the scene, so maybe she'll file a field report later on.
I love Jonze and I love Eggers and I love Where the Wild Things Are, but I've never really considered the three of them to be three great tastes that taste great together. So I'm not sure this news is so bad, really.
For many years, this has been my favorite rendering of Christ:

But now I think I kind of like this one, instead. It's more quiet and serene, like Redford in Jeremiah Johnson. Pass the ammo!
Check out the side graphic - there are some delusional white folk out there.
Alright, I'm on my way.

Did you know Yankees Stadium is America's "Colosseum"?
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, July 16 2008, 01:02 pm That festering cesspool isn't even the Bronx's Colosseum.

CK -- Wednesday, July 16 2008, 01:36 pm Any other Joss Whedon fans around here? If so, have you watched "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" yet? It is fantastic. (Highly recommended for non-JW fans who can stand musicals too!)

Miyaa -- Wednesday, July 16 2008, 02:11 pm I've watched the episode of Buffy where everyone sings likes it's a musical. I couldn't find a knife, otherwise I would have slit my wrists about a quarter of the way into the episode. (Gellar is not a singer.)
Grafe -- Wednesday, July 16 2008, 03:29 pm I believe booze lowers your core temperature because it dilates your arteries so more blood flows to the extremeties.
So, if you're in a blizzard, it's a bad idea since you'll lose heat sending blood to your fingers instead of keeping it around vital organs.
51 -- Wednesday, July 16 2008, 09:49 pm My field report (sorry for the delay - slept in this morning and am offline at work):
- Yes, aeeing all those hall of famers in person was pretty supercool.
- Wow do they ever want your money over at yankee stadium. I mean, all stadiums do, I suppose, but their pricing for souvenirs, etc, just felt out of this world ($75 for a TSHIRT! $200 face price on my upper deck ticket).
- Lots of fan diversity. Mostly yankees fans, but there were some (super-excited!) Tampa Bay fans, Red Sox fans, Pirates fans, etc, in the rows around us.
- There was a "beers of the world" stand too! Not as awesome as Pittsburgh's microbrew area, (they were all bottled, not on tap) but it was nice to have the option of Blue Moon. The roaming beer guys only gave out Coors Lites though.
- The bleacher creatures over in right field crack me up. I'm sorry, they're just so much fun. (Am I allowed to say that on this site?)
- This is not news to anyone, I'm sure, but Cotton Eyed Joe is the stupidest stadium singalong/dance-off/whatever possible. Geez.
- I think my favorite part was actually the fanfest at javits center earlier in the day - the best part was the buys/sell/trade collectors area. I had so much fun poking through old bobbleheads, commemorative pins and signed baseballs. I almost bought a signed Bob Forsch ball, but I decided that $30 would be better spent on beer.
