Comic for Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Posted: 8:00 am, Friday, May 23rd
I semi-promised a review of episode 8 of season 2 of the Wire, but then we went and watched episodes 9 and 10, too (hey, the weather sucks in NYC, and 2.0's ill, what of it?), so I can't distinctly recall episode 8 anymore. 9 and 10 were pretty awesome, though. The Wire's picking up, although I still don't believe it's the greatest show in the history of the world.
I hadn't heard of this Batting Stance Guy before yesterday, but I have a feeling I'm going to spend a lot of time on his YouTube channel. I like to bust out the Ichiro during softball, myself. Can't swing like that, but I like to tug my sleeve and point the bat before lining it at the second baseman's feet.
Funny that Slate busted out an article on the Young Indy Chronicles, because 2.0 and I decided that Shia LaBouff or whatever looked more like Sean Patrick Flanery than he did Harrison Ford, Marion, or River Phoenix. Also, I believe I enjoyed that show more than the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I could be wrong, though, it's been 16 years or so.
2.0 got worse during the day yesterday (probably because I made her walk through the rain to see the movie), so we had to give the Brooklyn Bridge's birthday party a skip. Which is a bummer, although I know my vantage point would not have been this good. I guess this goes on all weekend, though, so I'll have to catch some of it.
Fun article on the 1,001 books to read before you croak book. 2.0 and I were discussing yesterday (we talked a lot, I guess) that there's just too Goddamn much to read before you die. Life's too short to read all the books on this list, and I love reading. Just skimming this article, there are books I would never consider reading (Interview with the Vampire being one of them). I dunno. And these are just novels - leaving out epic poems, plays, and nonfics - on this list. Seven DeLillos? I've read like five of them, and at the end of the day, I think two were worth reading. I just don't have the fascination with the relationship of language and time or whatever that DeLillo has, I guess. (White Noise and Libra were the two I thoroughly enjoyed, even if White Noise went in a different direction than I thought it would.)
So, happy Memorial Day weekend. Hope you all get to fire up a grill at some point. It's finally supposed to not suck ass here in the Large Apple, so maybe I'll tote our little gas grill down to the park. I'm about 98% certain I'm taking Monday off from the strip, so I'll see you all back here on Tuesday. As Little Jacob would say, one love brudda seen?

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 08:18 am Jeez, speaking of the Wire, this Times piece is as depressing as anything in the show.

Zero -- Friday, May 23 2008, 08:30 am You were an English Major too, right? Do you get the feeling people are disappointed in us if they mention a book and we haven't read it? I do.
Our bullpen is scary.

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 08:42 am Seriously, the fuck was that? Just when I'd been wondering where Aardsma had been, he comes in and gives up a three-run jack. Thanks for answering that question, ace. Are we going to have to bring up Masterson for bullpen relief? Even Paps has had some hiccups early.
The handy thing about being an English major and not having read a book that someone mentions is that you can just throw out some extremely esoteric book. Like, "Oh, no, but I understand that's much like ..." and then a highly pretentious book that no one's ever read, maybe not even you, but shuts the person up.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 08:53 am Wow.

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 09:30 am Oh, fuck me. Who is this game made for?

Full disclosure: I've never played any of the Metal Gear Solid games. That article is about the 90-minute cut scenes (plural) in the upcoming fourth edition of the game. Holy hell. The end of Final Fantasy VIII is probably my favorite cut scene in video games, and it is 16 minutes long or so. That should be the limit. 90 minutes? That's the length of my average gaming session. I'm not going to watch a freaking cut scene for the entire time.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 09:37 am The Robot Genius is visiting some troops overseas, and writing about it.

tree -- Friday, May 23 2008, 11:04 am The Slate has a running diary of the R. Kelly trial. The crime allegedly went down in R. Kelly's home in Lakeview here in the Chi. For about 4 years, my college friends lived about two blocks away, so there were many a night that ended with us outside his home singing (screaming) "Gotham City."
How about McNulty in the brothel? So awesome.
From last night, Bullfrog: yes.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 11:07 am Wow. Was this date accepted?
I had the feeling you would approve of that scene, Tree.
tree -- Friday, May 23 2008, 11:19 am Yes it was. I can't remember the details, however.
Sean Fitzgerald -- Friday, May 23 2008, 01:16 pm Bullfrog - First you're going to Minneapolis, my hometown, then you're watching the Wire season 2, which I'm obsessively watching. It's unusual, to say the least. Your not planning to go to a late "Indiana Jones" show followed by "Reservoir Dogs" tonight, are you?
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 02:56 pm You're safe, Sean - saw Indy yesterday, and depending on how the wife is feeling, will probably just have a calm evening in watching Battlestar Galactica or something tonight.
Zero -- Friday, May 23 2008, 03:15 pm No BSG tonight, holiday weekend. Gotta wait til next week (just like Lost).
Zero
so it'll be the Soup, Guitar Hero 3, and chasing Mrs Z around the house instead. I'm okay with that.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 03:18 pm Oh, well, that's handy - hadn't caught up to last week's yet. Hook or crook, we'll have new BSG at World HQ!
Miyaa -- Friday, May 23 2008, 03:20 pm If the jury believes a Waynes Brothers movie, I'm moving to another country.
Does that T-shirt Pete is wearing says "We is ND?"
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 05:40 pm Yeah, it's a play on We Are ND/Charlie Weis. Pete's not just illiterate.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 06:44 pm Speaking of ND, nobody infuriates me like Tyrone Willingham. Dear God, this man.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 06:44 pm Link would've made me seem less crazy.

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 23 2008, 06:44 pm And Shitwit, Shitwit clearly infuriates me more than Lionel.
