Seriously, this happened.

Posted: 8:00 am, Tuesday, May 13th

It is very weird for 2.0 to be gone this long. I've had had plans every night, but each time I actually encounter people, it takes me a while to get used to, you know, speaking out loud again. I think it's a very good thing I was never unemployed when I lived by myself, although I guess that was the height of my rocking out... So, yeah, I wouldn't've been able to afford rocking out. Yeah, it remains a good thing I was never unemployed when on my own. (I believe I still count as unemployed, since school hasn't started yet.)

I can't believe I've actually had this going long enough for Pete to crash his entire way through law school.

It was terrible outside yesterday, so as a result, I got a lot done. I listen to all my podcasts while drawing, and this week's This American Life explained the current mortgage/credit crisis in nice, simple terms that even someone who keeps all of his money in checking because he's a twit (me) could understand. About the only part of the episode that wasn't bleak was when the jackwad just-of-college high-roller lost his job.

I think I had something else I was going to say about all of this, but when I was out with 15 and assorted Cards fans, one of her buddies was telling me - because the baseball was crappy (and continued to be - weren't the Twins supposed to suck?) - about the Secret History of Star Wars, a full-length, researched and annotated book about Star Wars and it's bizarre history and exactly how much of it George Lucas made up as he went along (for every time he says that he always knew the three movies that don't exist were going to be about Darth Vader). It uses a lot of old interviews and stuff with Lucas, and old drafts of the script, and sounds like it's really interesting. I haven't started it myself, yet, but it's on the reading list now, along with Master and Commander and, evidently, the First Days of School and the Reluctant Disciplinarian. Whoo, summer reading!

Sweet donuts, I can't bear listening to Hillary anymore. The transcript's not up yet, but I'm going to post the lead-in from the NewsHour of her shrieking about West Virginia last night. God, it's just grating.

When does school start for you, Bullfrog?

2.0 -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 09:06 am

Aren't Columbia's graduation robes powder blue with black ? Tree?

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 09:23 am

Did I screw that up? I couldn't find a photo of Columbia's law school commencement on the web, so I just went with Harvard and changed the crimson to baby blue.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 09:23 am

There's a summer training thing kicking off in about a month, and then I guess in September.

Sean F -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 09:26 am

Meet your new nemesis, BoSox fans: The Evil Twins!

Unfortunately, our evil powers are useless against the Yankees. And sometimes the Royals. Sigh.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 09:36 am

Seriously, the fuck was that? Actually, I guess the Twins have owned us (or owned us in the 'dome, I can't remember the stat) for the last six years or so. Good thing there's this dipshitted unbalanced schedule so that we play two series against 'em in a year.

Yeah, yeah, possessive pronouns. I'm the emergency catcher for the Sox, what can I say?

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 09:38 am

The similarities between Rowlf the Dog and Hurley are astounding.

Robes are university and academic level, tassels are by degree.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 10:19 am

Shouldn't you be driving a van instead of pointing out how bad I am at researching the strip?

2.0 -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 10:29 am

Nope. I'm off van duty.

Miyaa -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 11:16 am

Meanwhile the Rays beat the Yankees and are now six games over .500 for the first time ever in Franchise history. And only half a game behind Boston.

tree -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 11:26 am

Yep, they were baby blue.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 11:26 am

I know, I'm actually more nervous about them than the Goats, 'til A-Rod gets back. (Man, sure is great that Sox don't get to play those guys while he's out. Sure.. is.. grrrrreat..)

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 11:38 am

We're two months and two days from the new Hold Steady album, and we're already getting the first review. It sounds more up my alley than Boys and Girls. That was a good album, but Almost Killed Me and Separation Sunday were fucking killer. The lyrics are the best part of the Hold Steady to me - I've grown on the band's ability, but from the get, it was the kick-you-in-the-teeth lyrics that've had me, and it sounds like we're back to that. GOod.

40 pouring time: Rauschenberg was one of 2.0's favorite artists. Rest him in his bed.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 12:56 pm

Alright, finally, NewsHour got the transcript up. Imagine how grating this sounded, and you're probably still coming up short:

SEN. HILLARY CLINTON (D), New York: Well, West Virginia has a history of picking them. And, in fact, I think it is the fact, too, that no Democrat gets elected president for nearly 100 years unless they carry West Virginia in the fall.

So West Virginia is a real indicator of which way the political winds are going to blow come the November election.

tree -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 01:12 pm

If you were running for office, how would you feel about leading WV by 40 points? In no way do I think I would ever want to be so in tune with the people of that state.

Yesterday, a friend and I were actually discussing what states we are most afraid of. For me, in some order, it's AL, MS and WV.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 01:28 pm

I've never felt more uncomfortable in a state than I was driving through Alabama in the dawn hours. Something about it made me feel uneasy. Never been to Mississippi, and I've actually never been that worried by West Virginia. I do think it's about the most bastard state we have. Like, the Carolinas and the Dakotas, they at least observe each other. Virginia's like, fuck it, we're the OG.

Miyaa -- Tuesday, May 13 2008, 06:19 pm

Like A-Rod was that effective in in the lineup this year?
