Comic for Monday, May 5th, 2008

Somehow, my laptop's screen has restored itself after nearly a year of only giving me three inches of available screen real estate. Handy. I have a big bulky monitor on standby for when this thing decides to conk out again, but for the time being, it's very nice to be able to just look straight ahead as I type. Was giving myself back problems looking off to the side.
I actually meant to keep the plot moving with this strip, but when I was writing it, Pete just kept interrupting and getting things off-track. Also, this is a pretty accurate depiction of how quickly a conversation with my friends can jump the rails to just talk about the Wake, instead. (Jen's sporting her Harry and the Potters shirt - the guys are playing the NYPL on Saturday, as a concert reminder. Ticket info here.)
2.0, CK, 15 and myself spent the weekend up at my parents' house, taking a field trip to Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame on Saturday. It was a pretty gray weekend Upstate, except for some very clear, idyllic weather while we were actually at Cooperstown. I took some pictures that I'll try to get up for tomorrow. I hadn't been to the Hall of Fame since I was a kid, and it was the first trip for the ladies. A good deal of walking around the exhibits involved everyone looking for anything representing the Royals because there was, uh, not much. Also, there was an emergency of some sort in the Robinson household, so the updating of Jackie's plaque did not take place. After the Hall of Fame, we went for a tasting at the Cooperstown brewery (in Milford), and walked around the incredibly Rockwellian main street of Cooperstown looking for a Sox visor for 2.0. It's like the instant they awarded Cooperstown the Hall of Fame, the town stopped aging and changing in the slightest. It's really just amazingly cute and scenic. They do charge a buck sixty-five for a cup of to-go coffee at the diner, though.
PVP's pulling off the big Jade-Brent marriage in grand style these past few days. Hard to believe Kurtz has been cranking those suckers out for ten years. Congrats, strip-creator-who-is-unaware-of-this-strip.
I'm not sure when it started happening, but lately CNNSI has had, next to the headline, bulletpoints disseminating the story to its key points. The practice has never been as ridiculous as in this four-paragraph story. Between the headline and the bulletpoints, there's nothing not covered twice. Also, why is Papa John's taking sides in a DC-Cleveland tussle? Aren't they from Louisville?
Ah, I should go run.

RAW -- Monday, May 5 2008, 08:57 am I am guessing that Papa John's supports the Wizards because they sell Papa John's pizza at the Verizon Center where they play.
Miyaa -- Monday, May 5 2008, 09:28 am They're just following what CNN has done for I think about a year now. It's for people who don't have enough time to read or print out the online article. (sarcasm)I mean really, everyone gets their news from twitter anymore, right? (/sarcasm)
Dan -- Monday, May 5 2008, 10:44 am That guy knows how to draw womenfolk. That said, I don't really consider it to be one of the very best out there, even if it's been around a decade. Plenty of strips have been around a long time. PVP isn't even one that I have listed on my My Yahoo, so I don't follow it regularly anyway.
Bullfrog -- Monday, May 5 2008, 11:13 am Honestly, I come and go on it, too. I liked the old stuff (I say that all the time), the newer stuff I only like when it's not being ridiculous.
Pat S. -- Monday, May 5 2008, 11:24 am @e from Friday: I don't know the vendor's name, but they seem to be the only people selling seafood in Eastern Market. So I guess the answer is go to the inside building and look for the fishes.
Miyaa -- Monday, May 5 2008, 12:43 pm So, no one is doing anything for Cinco de Mayo? (And I don't mean the Patriot's first round pick, Mayo from USC either.)
Bullfrog -- Monday, May 5 2008, 01:53 pm I just ate some chili lime chips with my lunch.. Aside from that, I totally forgot it was Cinco de Mayo, despite the fact I've written the date on several things today. I hope this doesn't somehow affect the post-softball game scene.
Pat S. -- Monday, May 5 2008, 03:59 pm I did eat a burrito. Otherwise I prefer not to participate in the commercialization of national holidays, since this Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick's Day big-alcohol-company marketing BS annoys me. What if July 4 suddenly became all about getting wasted? "Get Blasted for the Heroes" on Memorial Day, maybe?
ad -- Monday, May 5 2008, 04:04 pm I'm with Pat... If it isn't big-alcohol it is big someone. 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Presidents Day all seem to be about buying mattresses, furniture, or huge automobiles.
e -- Monday, May 5 2008, 04:05 pm if I acknowledge it for the materialistic sentamentalism it represents can I still have a corona?
ad -- Monday, May 5 2008, 05:02 pm As long as you avoid buying the Corona piņata, I think you're okay.

Miyaa -- Monday, May 5 2008, 07:43 pm Or the hideous combination of Miller Lite and Lime Juice. In a 24 oz can.
