Comic for Monday, March 17th, 2008

Seriously, there is no gratitude.

Posted: 7:10 am, Monday, March 17th

Good to see the committee screwing the Irish yet again. Pitt and UConn are four seeds, and we're a five? Against a George Mason team that has as many tournament wins this decade as we do? Setting up a rematch from last year against Winthrop in the second round? And Chapel Hill in the Sweet Sixteen? Awesome.

We had a raucous week around here last week, so Friday was spent in quiet fashion, accidentally watching the Return of Jezebel James, the new Amy Sherman-Palladino show starring Parker Posey and Claire from Six Feet Under. Posey plays a children's book editor with a two-story three-thousand square foot apartment that seems to overlook the Flatiron District from somewhere in the Bowery area. Which, let me tell you, is exactly the fashion in which CK resides. The realism is mind-boggling. Actually, the show had some promise, although the laugh track is as awful as I'd heard, and I can't get Lauren Graham out of my head every time Parker Posey delivers a line.

I continued my streak of not being very good at poker on Saturday. In five hours of playing, I won one hand, which actually kept me in pretty good shape up 'til when I just got tired, but, God. The good news is that I'll never get addicted to gambling because I just don't have the time to spare.

Alright, so that brings me to this. I'm feeling vaguely reminiscient of Ramona Quimby, Age 8, in that I lost something that you can't just find under the couch. The main reason there was barely any blog on Thursday and Friday last week was that my friends from the office were taking me out and buying me drinks both nights, because my department was restructured, leaving me free to explore other options, such as how awesome it would be to sit on my couch all day. I've actually known about this for a few weeks now, during which I've been, you know, sending out resumes and what-not, and also trying to keep the strip from getting depressing or anything like that. (More depressing than usual, whatever.) Anyway, main reason I'm even saying anything, the addy you get when you click the stamp is my only one now, Irish folks. I can probably still get into my (old) work address, but I won't be. So, yeah, I doubt this situation will last all that long (although, fuck, lemme tell you, the economy portions of the NewsHour are pretty depressing to listen to), and aside from missing a lot of the people I work with, I'm not all that upset about things. I'd been at that job wa-a-a-a-a-a-ay longer than I probably should've been. The going-away parties were nice, and it's nice to know that there a lot of people very angry over what went down. Which! Which brings me to this quickly, and then I'll move on: If anyone from the office is reading this right now, don't say anything in the comments too angry, because, um, this site is not "a secure line," as they say in spy thrillers, and I'd hate for anything to happen.

Alright, got that out of the way. Sorry to anyone I didn't tell personally who feels like maybe they should've been told personally - it got to be a depressing conversation after a while. The strip, probably, will benefit a little bit from the shake-up. One of my goals in my euphemistic transition time is to poke around learning PHP and CSS, so maybe I'll get around to re-doing the site after all these years.

And now I'm going to go write for a bit before working on resumes and practicing on getting interviewed and going out to buy a corned beef sammich, 'cause it's Saint Patrick's Day, word. God, I love corned beef.

Early word has the Irish tipping at 9:50 Thursday night. Fantastic! Really great. Awesome. Oh, what the hell am I bitching about, I don't have anything to do on Friday.

Happy St. Pats!

Tempest621 -- Monday, March 17 2008, 09:25 am

Sorry to hear about the re-structuring, I hope you are able to enjoy some of the time off before finding something else.

Miyaa -- Monday, March 17 2008, 10:07 am

Oh, poor Bullfrog! (Hope you find something soon. Get that Parachute book, post haste!)

UConn and ND should be 4th seeds and Pittsburgh a 9th seed, really. (I have Notre Dame losing to North Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen, if that means anything.)

And just in time for the start of Baseball season.

Sorry to hear- its not fun to go through. Happened to Dan last August. He took to watching Dr. Phil and jogging. Best of luck finding something soon!

Bullfrog -- Monday, March 17 2008, 10:49 am

There is no truth to the rumor that Daniel Gross is one of my pen names.

I've got to jog to the library later today to return some books. Thankfully, the weather is cooperating with my first day kickin' around the house by being a balmy 31 and crazy windy outside.

Pat -- Monday, March 17 2008, 11:20 am

Sorry about the job, homes. You'll find some shit.

Miyaa -- Monday, March 17 2008, 11:26 am

I don't understand what's the deal with Dr. Phil. He's like my mother, only he has a television show. (And my mother isn't a psychologist.)

Pat -- Monday, March 17 2008, 11:46 am

Didn't this happen a few weeks ago in Five Bucks?

Pete -- Monday, March 17 2008, 02:15 pm

As a Pitt grad, I must remind you to please use the full "Big East Champion Pitt Panthers" when referring to the champs...

Bullfrog -- Monday, March 17 2008, 02:18 pm

I prefer Big East Tournament 7-seed Pittsburgh Panthers.

Bullfrog -- Monday, March 17 2008, 02:18 pm

Actually, I was pretty psyched Pitt took down G'town. I don't care much for the Hoyas.

sorry to hear about your job sitch - my wife's company is always hiring for all sorts of stuff, especially if you have any tech skills at all. Check out tutor.com

When I say 'my wife's company' I mean she works there, not that she owns it. Me speak English fine.
