Comic for Friday, March 14th, 2008

Seriously, that's some good work, Pete.

Posted: 8:10 am, Friday, March 14th

Yet again, not very much to say today. It's been one of those weeks. Happy birthday to MNP, though, and, dammit, Irish, what is it about MSG that we have to suck every time we play there? Crikey.

Happy birthday, MNP!

The proper terminology for "those weird team themed pants that taper around the ankle" is Zubaz. Frequently still seen throughout NJ and Long Island pizzerias in a green and white stripe, often combined with a Al Toon or Ken O'Brien half-cut jersey.

2.0 -- Friday, March 14 2008, 09:17 am

Ah yes...I knew there was a term for them. Thank you Reggie Ho.

MJL -- Friday, March 14 2008, 09:38 am

Reggie Ho paints the perfect picture. If you wish for an additional example, you can make a few swaps.

colors - orange and navy establishment - dawg shack location - anywhere w/in 120 miles of chicago

MJL -- Friday, March 14 2008, 09:38 am

hmm. somehow lost the carriage returns there.

Bullfrog -- Friday, March 14 2008, 09:55 am

Are you referring to one A. Malec, in particular?

MJL -- Friday, March 14 2008, 10:19 am

Well, yes, kind of. But by no means are we talking about a single example of an endangered population. There is plenty of genetic diversity in this species, able to support years of sustainable growth.

Those remind me of another classic:

I think you'll enjoy the musical accompaniment, too.

"Zubaz, the perfect St.Patricks Day party pant"

That's a quote from Zubaz HQ folks.

MJL -- Friday, March 14 2008, 11:35 am

The office i.t. staff might now have me on some sort of watch list, but I am really digging the soundtrack streaming from the skidznyc link. Good change of pace.

yeah - paterson seems aok, so far. and he's funny. last night on the news there was a clip of him at a press conference and someone asked if he had ever consorted with prostitutes. he said "only the lobbyists."

zing!

Pat -- Friday, March 14 2008, 01:46 pm

I found today's comic hilarious. Good jorb!

Zubaz: part of a crappy day for me in 7th grade. This was when all the NFL players were sporting Zubaz during interviews, so being nerdy and without fashion sense, I convinced my mom to make -- not buy, but make -- a pair of Zubaz pants. I proceeded to wear them to school, which prompted nearly every person I met to ask, "What the hell is up with your pants?" Then I missed the bus to go home and had to walk to my grandma's. I never wore the pants again. The end.

Pat -- Friday, March 14 2008, 01:49 pm

Also, Skidz were great in Catholic school. (Pre-7th grade, for me.) We didn't have to wear uniforms at the time, so we would all rock the Skidz because they were dressy enough to pass through. Those were the shit.

Why are the pants of the early '00s nowhere near as definitive as the pants of the early '90s? Back then you also had the torn jeans of Nirvana, the Hammer pants, the Cross-Colours and Karl Kani huge multicolored jeans, and those black jorts that came past the knee that Anthony Kiedis used to wear.

Bullfrog -- Friday, March 14 2008, 02:24 pm

I would share a tale of 7th grade with you to commiserate, Pat, but those years were so psychologically horrifying to me that I have completely blocked them from my memory.

Miyaa -- Friday, March 14 2008, 02:48 pm

My highlight of my 7th grade was the 7th and 8th grade prom (held a roller skating rink that has another branch in the City of Dis, really atrocious) and the boys ganged up and voted the skankiest girl 7th grade to be Queen to the dumbest and most retarded boy in 8th grade as her King. They stopped having proms for junior high students at my school after that.

The girl got her revenge by stealing the money the class was raising for the Junior-Senior prom along with her twin sister. All $5,000 dollars worth. I'm also pretty sure my school district is the one that teaches the demons in Hell.

I'm bored Jeremiah. You should come home now.
