Comic for Friday, February 15th, 2008

Pete keeps it real. Ish.

Posted: 7:55 am, Friday, February 15th

Ron's reading this Times article, and this is the Gasoline for America's Secutiry fiasco from '05, if you've forgotten. I really just needed a set-up for the last two panels, in case that wasn't obvious. We watched Harry 5 the other night, and disappeared reader Whitey reminded me the other day that Pete was very slowly reading the Harry Potter books.

And, man, seriously, another shooting spree at another university? Brutal.

Sorry to do this to you, but no Lost discussion today - we missed it last night. We'll catch up with it over the weekend on ABC's website and if it was particularly strong, I'll address it on Monday.

Hillary, stop being lame. Also, nine days? Wasn't it more like a month ago?

I read Jim DeRogatis's Milk It! a few years back, and mostly enjoyed it. That was the last I thought of him until maybe two months ago, when all of a sudden, his name is everywhere. He's got an NPR show, he's commenting on this, he's commenting on that... Anyway, quick interview with him, and a mention of his Rolling Stone career-killing review of the Hootie and the Blowfish album. Which made me think of this.

I'm not sure what the hell Scott Kurtz is up to these days, but I don't know if I'd be this excited to get a package from Jim Davis.

I've long said that Steve Nash is one of my favorite NBA players (Shaq is just damn awesome, and, all in all, I don't give a fuck about the NBA), and his wearing 100% recycled shoes does nothing to change that opinion. Trash Talk is also a phenomenal name for post-consumer waste basketball shoes.

I work in Midtown Manhattan, and you'd think there'd be food choices galore. There are not. It's actually a wasteland of decent food. I'm near a Pret and a Hale and Hearty, which are both fine and good, but aren't particularly fancy. There's one bar nearby with worthwhile food, but they're of the opinion that their burgers are worth about $12. Which I guess they are, but not on any sort of regular basis. So it's with great excitement that I found Midtown Lunch yesterday. Lunch will never be a question again. (He even does carts, although my favorite cart only came in fourth in his recent poll. That's just bullshit.)

Alright, everybody have an awesome president's day weekend. I hope you get Monday off, I sure do. There'll be a strip, it'll probably just be a little late.

Bizarre listing of campaign donators from 1Up - a dude from Bethesda, the company that made Oblivion, which I bore the crap out of 2.0 by playing, gave to the homeboy, which is good. Wil Wright somehow gave to Giuliani, which is bad.

The fact any of them gave to Clinton after that Hot Coffee debacle kind of astounds me.

Lost was good last night. Especially when Locke turned into a giant bunny and Hurley hooked up with the ghost of Ana Lucia.

Heh. Kidding.

Man, I *knew* Locke was going to turn into a bunny eventually.

Man, I fucking love Pedro Martinez.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/02/14/martinez.mets.ap/index.html

"I have a small frame and when I hurt all I could do was take a couple of Aleve or Advil, a cup of coffee and a little mango and an egg -- and let it go!" he said.

Lincolnlogger -- Friday, February 15 2008, 10:59 am

What about Chipotle? (42nd btwn 5th and 6th, next to the Mets store). I eat there once a week.

Bullfrog -- Friday, February 15 2008, 11:19 am

I can't do Chipotle anymore, for a few reasons.

1) The line. I am too impatient to wait in that line.

2) I have an awesome burrito joint in my neighborhood.

3) This is actually the biggest one, I very rarely eat grab-n-go type food out. Most of my eating out is for a coworker's birthday, or meeting Crownover or something once a month to trade books. I almost always eat a sammich I bring from home. (Except today. I'm hitting the cart for falafel or Pret or Hale for some clam chowda, 'cause it's a Lenten Friday.)

4) The smell. I don't know why, but the smell outside of Chipotles get to me these days. I've commented on it to RAW, he loves it, I find it hard to take. I'm assuming it's just one of my weird things.

All that said, Tree and I used to hit cheap Mexican before tearing it up when he lived in the City, and we definitely hit Chipotle before his 26th, many moons ago. I want to say that was the night he almost got into a slap-fight with a hipster, but I think that was a different night.

Dan -- Friday, February 15 2008, 12:29 pm

You know what I wanna see on a t-shirt? And if this exists, I might buy it, but I haven't bothered to check yet..

"If it's not Barack, fix it."

You're welcome.

PS. Nash's recycled shoes? Made out of dead Nike sweatshop workers. Zing!

Miyaa -- Friday, February 15 2008, 12:40 pm

I heard students comment that at the rate this is going University police and security departments will have to hire snipers for just such an occasion.
