Talk talk talk.

Posted: 7:20 am, Wednesday, January 30th

I took the Jeopardy! online test last night, and I'm fairly certain Trebek set up me the bomb. Yikes, that's harder than any episode they've ever put together. If I got more than half of those right, I'll be jazzed. Of course, I don't think they tell me how I did, so I guess I'll just forever tell people that I got one away from the score that gets you on the show.

Good. Now go away forever.

Geez, you know, I read a ton of news sites and stuff yesterday, but, for some reason, all the links I sent to myself for the site were sports-related. Sorry about this.

This Seattle Times report on the 2000 Washington Huskies has started to really make the rounds, but when there's horridness on a scale of the 2000 Washington Huskies, there's never a limit as to how much you should talk about it. The Seattle Times is doing a fantastic in-depth series about all the run-ins with the law that that team had, and all the blind eyes turned to it, starting with awful waste of life Jerramy Stevens, who is a drunk, a violent psychopath and a rapist. Don't read this unless you have a strong stomach. I'm really kind of surprised by the fact the cops and the prosecutors turned such a blind eye - you expect this stuff down south, like in Knoxville or Gainesville or Tuscaloosaville, but in Seattle? Seattle's a pretty progressive town. You wouldn't think they'd be so willing to let a bunch of jocks own the town. And the real shame about this (other than UW making life impossible for the rape victim by insisting that her full name be revealed in the investigation process) is that Stevens' career is already over, and he's face, realistically, almost no retribution for this. Ugh, what a piece of shit.

To still-not-happy-but-not-really-depressing news, the Hall of Fame game will be played for the last time this year. My family went to that once or twice when I was a kid - I feel as if it was twice, but I only really remember one game, the Twins and Blue Jays. It was a really small stadium and kind of an idyllic setting for a game.

Other baseball, congrats Mets fans. Also, astounding candor on Cashman's part in this joint session with Theo. The best parts:

While retracing Bernie Williams’s unfriendly departure from the Yankees, Cashman said Williams had become more involved in his music “and that took away from his play” and that Williams had a “terrible season” in 2005. Cashman added Joe Torre had played Williams “ahead of guys who could help us win” in 2006, a reference to Melky Cabrera.

When a fan asked Epstein about the loss of Johnny Damon to the Yankees as a free agent after the 2005 season, Epstein said the Red Sox felt they had “gotten the best years out of Johnny.” Cashman said Damon struggled last season because he reported to spring training out of shape, adding that Bobby Abreu was also out of shape.

...

“I thought our guys weren’t mentally tough enough to get through [the bugs in Cleveland, which we will forever use as an excuse for losing that series],” Cashman told a fan...

That is some awesome stuff, right there.

Alright, so, big run-up to Super Tuesday (which corresponds with Mardi Gras - how will this affect turnout?!). I'll be linking to various ways to get out there and support my candidate of choice (screw the others), and, New Yorkers, you can get things started here. There's also Broadway for Barack tonight at 5:30, to get the vote out. New York, it's important to note, is not a winner-take-all state, so every vote actually does count to some degree, so get the hell out there.

CK posted this last night, the deets for the Brooklyn Bridge walk for Barack on Saturday:

Poor a 40 to Easter Heathman, who died last night. Easter was the guy who found the wreck of the plane in which Knute Rockne died. (Sorry, that sounded awkward and is probably grammatically incorrect.) He apparently would stop to talk to anyone who came by to the crash site and would tell them all about it, and in '06, ND did something right for a change and gave him an honorary monogram.

Apparently Edwards is dropping out. Think he'll endorse anyone? http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/30/edwards-is-dropping-out/

That entry said his advisers say he won't be, but I like to think he'll throw his hat in with my homeboy.

And that is some damn high praise there, Zero, thanks.

You know how some people make better offensive coordinators than head coaches? I wonder if that's the case with Rudy. He was a better mayor (if barely) than he might be as President of the USA.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, January 30 2008, 01:37 pm

I don't know if there's anything in this world funnier than having your gmail notifier pop up with a message from Senator Ted Kennedy and a subject line of "I'm fired up."

One more event to link: arts and crafts night for Obama tomorrow night. They apparently need as many people as possible to help make signs.
