Back in the swing of things, holla holla.
God, the swing of things sucks.
Alright, so did everyone have a nice Christmas and New Year's, now that I'm actually back and looking at the web from time to time? 2.0 and I had a pretty merry one, trucking around Upstate early in the process, and then relaxing back in Brooklyn for the second half. 2.0 picked up a used copy of the AIA Guide to NYC (and older edition than that one pictured - ours has a lot more snarkiness in it that was evidently excised in later editions) and we took a long trot around our next of the woods one day looking at stuff we've passed a million times without ever noticing. For instance, there is this crazy, isolated old faux-Greek pool area in Prospect Park called the Vale of Cashmere that we'd have never in a million years found without that book. (Way down at almost the very bottom of that link...)(And maybe it's a good thing we abandoned our search for the rose garden that's supposed to be nearby, when we noticed a homeless dude staring at us as if we were violating his turf.) Anyway, we've long wanted to walk every street in Manhattan, so maybe that'll be something we tackle in '08, with our trusty AIA Guide in tow. (Every street in Brooklyn would be nice, too, but I'm not going to freaking Canarsie with a book and a map in hand.)
Pete got over his shock and awe quickly enough. I think I tricked some readers into thinking I'd killed Pete, which would be quite the bang to start '08 with, but then I'd lose a quarter of my cast, and most of the conflict. But I do have some big stuff planned for '08, so keep reading anyway.
I hate having to root for Urban Meyer, which is the situation I find myself in at the moment. Go, sigh, Gators.
I remember reading about the Christian Exodus to South Carolina a few years ago - I'm assuming after the '04 elections, when there was also a plethora of sites advocating the dissolution of the Union because the coasts kept voting Democrat - and it's nice to see that they've succeeded in moving 15 families out of a target of 12,000. On the other hand, I'm sure this intelligent design Board of Ed meeting or whatever is going to receive a disproportionate amount of coverage on the networks because it's an easy story. Le sigh.
I didn't do any year-end lists this year because I was just trying to make it to the end of the year, but this list of 50 loathsome people ought to cover things well enough. Vitriolic to the extreme, that list has great passages like, "as first Hispanic Attorney General, Gonzo typifies the self-betrayal and ethical compromise necessary for minorities to become successful Republicans," "[Ann Coulter] is against her own right to vote," - she has a new book out, by the way, which shocks me to no end - "[Bill O'Reilly] won't ever admit he was wrong about anything (and will lie repeatedly rather than correct himself), accuses all who disagree with him of treason or insanity, attacks all who criticize him, and glories in his own troglodytic bluster," - I love all forms of the word troglodyte - and, in advice for Britney Spears and others, "this goes for all you fucked up superstar bimbos: You're rich, bitch! Get a fucking driver!" Dressing downs aplenty.
Alright, I think that's good for the first day back. I've got a big bandage on my thumb, still, so I'm probably going to get around to the rest of the honeymoon photos - we were through most of it already - and I've just finally updated the archive. (Not the archive by description - that may be beyond resuscitation.) I'm going to try and keep on that this year, and I just noticed for some reason I didn't have the shop link up there, which is really just a testament to how good of a businessman I am. A third sigh. But, anyway, it's all there. So, hopefully, a better-kept site in '08. And a Democrat in office.

Grafe -- Wednesday, January 2 2008, 08:39 am We spent a fair amount of time driving through Ohio over the holidays and I have never seen so many anti-abortion billboards in my life. It puts anything in SC to shame.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, January 2 2008, 08:49 am Yes, well, Ohio is an entirely different matter.
This is why I can't stand rooting for Urban Meyer:

Miyaa -- Wednesday, January 2 2008, 10:57 am Brittany Spears as an Aunt scares me a lot more than she is as a Mother. Congratulations, Jaime Lynn, you're not going to be working for Nickelodeon anymore!
I've read the new Ann Coulter book. Quoting yourself from other books and times you've been interviewed doth not make it a book.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, January 2 2008, 11:03 am I really thought she was ended with the round of awfulness from her last book. Man, she's like a cockroach in so many ways.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, January 2 2008, 11:05 am I heard about this Huckabee snafu last night after I'd written the post - this guy gives Iowa Republicans less credit than *I* do.

Miyaa -- Wednesday, January 2 2008, 02:30 pm Why do I keep hearing talk/hope/rumor that Bloomberg could be a 3rd party candidate for President? Are our Republican and Democratic choices really suck that much?
I'm afraid this might be the year that Cardinals might actually be the worst team of a very pathetic NL central.
