Gettin' ready for the ball.

Posted: 7:20 am, Monday, December 31st

The universe doesn't like to let me get away with stuff, so in exchange for my calling in sick today (which I had planned on doing for the last month or so - can you believe they want us to go in for like five hours today? what's the point?), I sliced off the top of my thumb last night making dinner. Not all the way, just enough to get three stitches put in and totally kill my holiday mood. (First three stitches, by the way - my father subscribed to this insane old-school belief that if you couldn't see the bone, you didn't need stitches. I have no idea how I survived to adulthood.) So I'm typing right now with this big goofy bandage on my thumb. It's a good thing I already have all the strips for this week done, because it makes holding a pen (and toothbrush, as I discovered) very difficult. (Because it was of course my left thumb, since I'm kind of ambidextrous with some stuff and use my right hand to slice with a knife.) Anyway, the point of this is to blame Grafer, because it was with the samurai-sharp knives he gave us for the wedding that I did this.

Is anyone at work today? Are most people off? I just know my company would let everyone leave at one thirty or two or something, and the stupid subway near my house isn't even making local stops until tomorrow, for some reason, so I don't see the point of going in.

Anyway, hope everyone has an awesome Auld Lang Syne tonight. I don't know what it was that made me think of Tomorrowland - perhaps a general curiosity of what they're predicting these days, because as I recall, they were pretty accurate when I was there in 1991 - but that's what you get when I spend most of the week home alone.

Happy New Year's! (The strip will be up late tomorrow - probably shortly after noon or so.)

Damn Miami players...

"Quinn was 3-of-8 for 45 yards in his one series, but had a sure TD pass dropped by Winslow in the end zone."

Catch the freakin' ball, soldier.

skt -- Monday, December 31 2007, 08:53 am

crownover -- Monday, December 31 2007, 09:09 am

SH -- Monday, December 31 2007, 09:32 am

Braylon Edwards dropped a TD pass too, a Michigan man indeed.

KT -- Monday, December 31 2007, 10:41 am

I'm in til 1:00 pm... although the main reason I came in today was for a deliverable for this one consultant who was supposed to be in today after being out all last week... and his voicemail says he's going to be out again today too!!! Oh well, I just need to get home in time to get a good three hour nap in before preparing to go out.

I'm home today! Actually we're still thawing out from the 'skins/Cowboys game!

Speaking of Tomorrow Land....there is also a new iPhone in my household and it sure is purdy.

Miyaa -- Monday, December 31 2007, 02:22 pm

Who was this Mr. Toad, pray tell?

Bullfrog -- Monday, December 31 2007, 03:12 pm

Mr. Toad - the Wind and the Willows!

We have a brand new Samsung being all flat and purdy in our apartment today, and thankfully my Goddamn thumb prevents me from playing the PS3 and putting it through its paces. The universe hates me.

Secretary -- Monday, December 31 2007, 05:46 pm

Be thankful you just have stitches, Bullfrog. I broke my wrist when Grafe and I went ice skating 3 weeks ago. Nothing more embarrassing than sitting with his family Christmas Eve and his aunt cutting my meat for me! Casts suck.

Happy New Year!!!

Grafe -- Tuesday, January 1 2008, 01:12 pm

So what requires stitches, then? Is it just for something that won't stop bleeding?
