Comic for Friday, December 14th, 2007

Well, the storm of the century left an icy sludge on the sidewalks and nothing else. But wait! There's another wintry blast due for tomorrow night! The way the news freaks out about snow around here, you'd think we were Atlanta.
Where was I last week that I didn't hear about this crap? Evidently, Camel took out like a nine-page cartoon-drawing ad about the universe of indie rock, without getting permission of any of the bands listed there. A) It's illegal to use cartoons to advertise for smokes - Camel should've remembered this when their drawing for the Band of Horses at the bottom left of that ad there came out looking a lot like Joe Camel. B) They effectively co-opted the bands into advertising for Camel cigs. The bands are thinking about suing Camel and Rolling Stone, so, yeah. God, Rolling Stone, what happened to you?
Speaking about non-indie rock for a change, I don't read Idolator, so somehow I likewise missed this special edition cover for Ted Nugent's "Love Grenade" that came out back in August (SFW, but barely - this cover is basically what got shot down for Smell the Glove in Spinal Tap). Man, it's almost enough to make me stop dressing Pete up in a hunting cap and having Ron refer to him as Nuge. (Based on my buddy Bitter co-opting a hunting cap from my parents' house back senior year o' collitch.) The best thing about this is that one guy suddenly started thinking Idolator was Ted Nugent (also SFW, but barely).
The improper fraction thing killed me.
Daniel Day Lewis: Amazing actor, EZ chair.
Grafe and I were talking the other day about time-suck video games - DX Ball, Duke Nukem, Civilization - and then I found this web-based MMO of Might and Magic coming out this spring. Shit. I just kicked Kingdom of Loathing, and that's with freaking stick figures.
Today seems like it'll be a slow news day compared to yesterday, when all the children of all the nations in the world united to sing songs about Fat Bastard injecting horse hormones into his ass. I'd say he had a shitty 2007, but the man did make about twenty mil for being a part-time, league-average pitcher, so it clearly wasn't too bad.

Bullfrog -- Friday, December 14 2007, 08:43 am Really? Huh. Her face always looks naked to me without the glasses.
Pourin' a 40 for Frank Eck, donor extraordinaire to our Lady's University. Dude's given over $35 million dollars to the place, including the visitor's center and the new law school building. Lawsey, lawsey.

I am proud to say that nothing I've ever thought would be an awesome (or awesomely bad) band name has ever appeared on these lists.
15 -- Friday, December 14 2007, 09:24 am Oooh what's going to happen what's going to happen?
MJL -- Friday, December 14 2007, 10:27 am How was I left out of a discussion concerning time-suck video games?!
For some blast-from-the-past reason, the "Worms" game jumps to mind. "How could you soldier?!"
Bullfrog -- Friday, December 14 2007, 10:34 am Oh, man, worms.
We discussed you, MJL, just not with you. By the way, the coffee came. Evidently yesterday, although my landlady didn't feel the need to put it out there with the rest of the mail 'til this morning or late last night. WHOO.
Bullfrog -- Friday, December 14 2007, 10:34 am Sorry, "Worms."
MJL -- Friday, December 14 2007, 11:13 am I won't speculate what was said about me.
Lemme know if that coffee is as tasty as described on the website.
