Comic for Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Hey! Hey! Mockingbird girl!

Posted: 7:00 am, Thursday, July 26th

It's funny that E, for some reason, made a Friends reference yesterday, because I half-considered lifting the Seinfeld bit where Kramer was lecturing Jerry on how to get to JFK, in which I believe he referred to the Van Wyck as the kiss of death as far as getting to the airport on time. Also, in case you're interested in learning about the Van Wyck...

Hanson, ten years off having MMMBop named as song of the year at the MTV Europe awards, has released their *seventh* fucking album. This is mind-blowing to me. Here, chat with Taylor.

Other music news, hip-hop's birthplace has been turned into a historical place. That's pretty sweet.

Yet more music news, this is a fantastic name for a band. Also, I am lobbying for "Sex Bomb" by Tom Jones to get played at the Pig Roast.

Geez, even more music news. Weird. Anyway, I have no idea why I decided to look this up on AllMusic, but this was actually the first CD I ever bought from a store (yes, when I was 16 – my parents didn’t much like rock, and I was kept in a cave for much of my early youth). It was a dollar at Sam Goody because of some promotion with 96.7 WDRE, my favorite radio station for most of my junior year of high school. Nothing special, just alt rock with a slightly more expansive playlist – they had Screenwriter’s Blues, one of my favorite songs, in moderately heavy rotation for much of the second half of ’94. Anyway, yeah.

10 things you ladies should never forget. (Shockingly, this appeared in a girls’ romance comic from – are you ready? - *1971*.) On top of awful advice, good job with the spacing and layout there, squad, seriously. (But now that I look at it, number seven is actually not terrible advice.)

The NBA is the most popular league with the criminal element, but the Denver Broncos seem to be the most popular team.

UniWatch kind of breaks the mold for this astounding article on airline uniforms yesterday. Some of the links require you to click 'em, then cut and paste the addresses back in there, but they are totally worth it if you do.

I’m having a hard time figuring out wtf is going on here, but it sure looks cool.

EEEEEE!

This sweet Ben O'Malley picture is today's random Harry reminder - I've still been checking in, if anyone still feels like talkin'. I'm planning on archiving that page on Monday, just so you all know.

(Five points to whoever can answer the following trivia question: Name the front man of the Magnificent Bastards. He was also the frontman of one of the biggest rock acts of the early nineties. 'Fess up if you use Google.)

And finally, if I had seen this at age 10, I would probably still be rocking back and forth in the corner, my mind shattered.

A follow-up on the EEEEEEE, looks like the 360 is pulling into the lead.

skt -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 08:23 am

let us not neglect the extremely fantastic, grammy nominated band, sex mob.

Whitey -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 08:58 am

I Googled as it was driving me nuts... I'll not spoil, but, yeah, I can see that.

15 -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 09:03 am

Ooh look LOADS of details on what happens to the characters after Deathly Hallows! HP spoilers obviously...

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 09:12 am

I have no idea why, 15, but you posting that reminded me that I wanted to look into a story I saw on the front page of the Metro today.

"Oscar the Death Cat."

Whitey -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 09:21 am

Heard about the cat on the way in to the office today... Great, harbingers of death... just another reason to hate cats.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 09:44 am

Free donuts in office! I am sooooo friggin' happy.

ktbb -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 09:49 am

Cool news on the birth of hip-hop scene. The tOSU husband and I are going to see KRS-One and Marley Marl tonight (having apparently patched up the Bridge War) -- and in Oxford, no less. I'm excited.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 09:53 am

That's pretty sweet, man. I, shamefully, do not believe I've ever - oh, wait, no, I saw the Roots once. They opened for Beck when I saw him my freshman year. (For $12! God, I paid almost that much to see Harry and the Potters last week. Shit is bananas.) They were pretty sweet, but completely out of their element playing the white preppies at ND. They freestyled Black Hole Sun just to get a reaction at one point. It didn't help that before *them* was Atari Teenage Riot, who sucked.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 10:06 am

Also, I like the designation "The tOSU husband," as if you also have a husband from UW-Madison or UTEP or somewhere.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 10:06 am

I swear I wasn't thinking about that for thirteen minutes.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 10:33 am

I just sent this link to Ondy, because he's the biggest Maiden fan I know ("excellent!" "excecute them!" "bogus" - that *still* kills me), but upon a second look, I see that there's a Dragon Force song on Guitar Hero 3.

There's no way. It's unpossible.

These speak pretty well for themselves: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0707/ping.pong/content.1.html

(although the browsing format is a little annoying)

How have none of you brought this to my attention? I can't wait to try this again later, when its server isn't overloaded.

Whitey -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 03:45 pm

Goin' to a Midnight showing of The Simpsons Movie...

The audience alone should be outstanding!!!

CK -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 04:35 pm

I just sent the "Death Cat" link around our office, saying "Hey, it's our next cute-animal picture book!"

Miyaa -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 04:51 pm

Some animals seem to know when death is coming. Others know when you're allergic to them, especially cats. Those are the cats I hate. (And I like cats, really.)

Hanson is still playing? Who knew!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 26 2007, 05:17 pm

By the way, the answer to today's trivia question was Scott Weiland.
