Comic for Monday, July 23rd, 2007

I love the last panel.

Posted: 7:00 am, Monday, July 23rd

The Harry 7 discussion is here, for those who haven't joined in and feel like it (it has gotten super spoiler heavy, so unless you're done, I'd avoid it). I'll probably archive it at the end of the week, and I'll be done talking about it ad nauseum probably around that time, too. It was a crazily satisfactory read, and you get that surge and ups and downs and choke-ups and rallies and fist-pumping fuck-yeahs that a good ultimate chapter ought to give you (like how I get during the Return of the King - whoooooo, lettin' the dork flag fly).

Oh, sorry, Grafe, I managed to forget to put my camera in my bag in between the time it took me to tell you that I would, and actually putting it in the bag. But CK's got some pics, and, honestly? It wasn't as awesome as it was for Half-Blood Prince back there, I didn't think. I think we got there too early.

Man, this picture is just awesome. I'm so jazzed from seeing it. It almost washes away the stain of Shitwit delivering the commencement address at ND in '01.

A bizarre deep-read of Silent Hill 2, of all things.

I completely share Fader's take on my girl Lily's collaboration with Common.

I really enjoyed these Photoshop Phridays the other day.

I'm posting this for two equal reasons - one because I highly recommend the Scott Pilgrim books, and two because I don't feel like reading the page myself right now and don't want to forget about it.

Oh, man, maybe Joe Morgan *will* get fired.

Awesome random reference to MJL's old screensaver at Diesel Sweeties today.

That won't get him fired. ESPN's already said he was mistaken, that he did have his facts wrong, but that it wasn't intentional and he'll clarify next time. Something like that.

off to the hp7 tawk!

This *would* be awesome.

MJL -- Monday, July 23 2007, 01:53 pm

My random thoughts get posted here, because I'm too lazy/busy to maintain my own blog. Some might even be of interest to the FiveBucker crowd.

On JJ: She lost her grams, which is why I was in DC last week.

On SETI: With CPU's then vs. now, my inner nerd wonders what problems today lend themselves to the shared computing model.

On Liddy: JJ's grams cared for G. Gordon Liddy's kids back when Liddy was in jail and Mrs Liddy was working full time. I shook his hand at the wake, but just was sitting there thinking, "I'm supposed to know much more about this guy than I actually do."

On ND: Really, I need a map to get around campus nowadays. Also, "THE SHIRT" runs very very large. A medium is big on me, and the small was big on JJ. Either we were looking at goofed batch, or they assume you'll be wearing these over snow parkas.

G. Gordon Liddy? Yikes!

My condolences to Fair JJ. I hope that her gram went peacefully and it wasn't an ordeal of any sort.

When were you trucking around campus?

RAW -- Monday, July 23 2007, 02:02 pm

Here's an example of useful stuff being done with the SETI computing model.

There's no reason to possibly care about box office figures, but I just saw an article making a bit of a deal out of the fact Harry 5 came in second to Chuck and Larry this weekend. That couldn't possibly be because the seventh book came out this weekend. No, it must be because Chuck and Larry was any damned good.

Was on campus on the way back from DC (yes, via car, oy). We had hotel reservations out by the UP Mall, oh the nostalgia, for last Thursday night. Good thing we had reservations, because dang near every door in the hotel was super-decorated for the national baton twirling competition being held in the JACC. WOW - lotta sequins on campus that day.

Grafe -- Monday, July 23 2007, 03:50 pm

I took the secretary on a tour of campus last summer. I was like, I think that building is the new bookstore. Nope. Okay, well then THAT building is the new bookstore. No? Okay, okay, this is definitely the new bookstore. No.

I was so lost, I'm amazed we found our way back to the car.

Please tell me you introduced her to Father George.
