Comic for Friday, July 20th, 2007

Whoa, fire speech.

Posted: 7:00 am, Friday, July 20th

I had an idea, the other day, on my infrequent run, about a mystery novel to write, which I think I'm going to see through. Completely independent of that, and not actually useful to me but interesting enough for me to mention, was this article about mystery internet 'zines on the Morning News. I've read a few stories off them - I like to think I'm a better writer, but they're entertaining enough to distract me during work. If I ever feel like something hardboiled, these sites are worth considering. Also, if any of you all ever feel like writing something hardboiled, shoot for the moon, man.

Ha!

I went through my trimontly remembering of how awesome Lifehacker is, and checked it out yesterday. Sweet article on how to conserve gasoline, and I'm psyched to see that my driving applies to all but number 10 (despite what Tree says, I am an excellent driving). (Also from Lifehacker - use the web to fight The Man! Yeah!)

Because ESPN is the devil of sports, I almost never check out Paul Lukas's articles on ye webbe site, even though I am a member of his club. I happened to check out yesterday's, though, because I am desperate for stuff to look at on the web that will not spoil Harry 7 for me, and I was ever so glad I did.

Harry and the Potters last night were awesome. I wish every crowd of every concert I saw in New York was even slightly as into it as the crowd last night - if a Wilco crowd would just get as psyched as the Harry and the Potters crowd last night... I talked to the Harrys briefly after the show - shut up - and told 'em their show had a lot in common with an Andrew W.K. concert, which they enjoyed hearing. There was a lot of up with people stuff during the show - seriously, they were one bellow of "long live life!" or Party 'til You Puke Slugs away from the Buddha Godhead himself. I fully salute you, Harry and the Potters. And Dracy and the Malfoys. Party Like You're Evil is a rockin' song. I implore everyone to go see these guys on their tour, because they rule, and what the hell are they going to do after this tour?

Which brings me to my PSA for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Two things; the first, I realize that this constant Harry Potter yammering does not interest about half of the site. But! I also realize that ND football does not interest half the site (2.0 and CK told me this last night)(2.0 tells me this constantly, and just tune out - CK, I listen to)(I'm kidding, honey)(here's a sweet, sweet ND pic, by the way). So, in interest of fairness, I am going to try and provide the service that I'm about to provide for Harry Potter fans to Irish fans in the autumn. Anyway, the other thing... has slipped my mind. I think it involved this comic I'm about to post being a link to the page where everyone can feel free to post whatever thoughts they have about the book, as they're reading it, over the weekend, if they so choose. Lead off with the chapter that you're on, so that way no one gets spoiler. I'll check in as I get the chance - I stupidly agreed to do some community service tomorrow, so I'll probably be up 'til three or so reading tonight and then finish up on Saturday, but not post 'til two or so. I'll post all this again inside the link, so, yeah.

FUCK YES.

Alright, fuck yes, today's the day, whoo!

Well, I've already noticed that I evidently don't know how to paste the comment code onto another page. RAW, can you help me out?

2.0 -- Friday, July 20 2007, 07:25 am

That's OK hon, most of the time I just tune out your football yammering anyway.

That's what makes us a great couple!

Oh boy, oh boy! Harry Potter!

Bullfrog -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:05 am

Oh, boy, marriage is going to be fun!

Grafe -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:08 am

don't forget the half of the site that doesn't care about baseball!

jeez, how many halves do you have?

drolett -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:08 am

the anticipation is killing me! tom's never seen me in full-potter mode - i feel like the next few days will be telling. i hope that he knows better than to try to talk to me when the book is anywhere near me. further complicating matters, the book is a gift from someone and it is being delivered but no one will tell me where, so i might have to drive up to my folks' house to get it. i think that's just cruel - i am trying to plan my reading weekend, and i don't know how!

Bullfrog -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:12 am

Well, luckily, the Sox are shitting themselves right now, so most of the baseball talk is just intermittent cursing about the Goat Fuckers.

Grafe -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:16 am

Are you going to be taking pictures of diagon alley, then posting them on Monday? (hint, hint)

Bullfrog -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:19 am

Um. (Getting office camera out of drawer, putting it in backpack.) Yes, yes I am.

Zero -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:25 am

you'll know the marriage is going to work if you don't argue over who gets the Potter book first (Mrs. Z, of course - she reads more quickly).

Zero

Bullfrog -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:26 am

Shoot, we're punting on that one, Zero. We're buying two.

15 -- Friday, July 20 2007, 08:46 am

SO EXCITED! I woke up this morning and felt so pumped that I tried to get my sister and roommate to do a Harry Potter 7 conga.

They were NOT amused.

skt -- Friday, July 20 2007, 09:02 am

there's a seventh harry potter????

Bullfrog -- Friday, July 20 2007, 09:11 am

Somebody's funny!

Bullfrog -- Friday, July 20 2007, 12:19 pm

Good article from the Times about Tommy John surgery and the morans that are having it done even when they're healthy.

What the hell?

Pat -- Friday, July 20 2007, 01:50 pm

Glenn Beck is well-mannered? I think the Rev. Billy Graham has forgotten that hating everyone and everything generally isn't good manners.

I do like the inclusion of Emmett Smith though.

e -- Friday, July 20 2007, 04:26 pm

Happy reading to all this weekend. I didn't manage to get through six this week and instead spent this afternoon on that Harry Potter reference site. Not being of the pre-order sales group I will have to stop by the bookstore tomorrow morning.

Random Fan -- Saturday, July 21 2007, 02:08 am

I feel like Ron should have flipped out on Pete, like, years ago.

Bullfrog -- Saturday, July 21 2007, 09:11 pm

Ron's kind of a wimp when it comes to standing up to Pete - the most he ever does is threaten to kill him. Plus, Pete simply does not hear most criticism. But, yeah, were this honest-to-God real life, Ron would probably have moved to another state without telling Pete.

miyaa -- Sunday, July 22 2007, 06:16 pm

Eh, Ron would have shot and killed Pete, and be acquitted in court.

I'm off to watch St. Louis and Atlanta get the Joe Morgan treatment at the local watering hole!
