Droppin' the hammer!

Posted: 7:00 am, Thursday, July 19th

I can't believe this accident/license suspension took place all the way back in November and March. Man, it takes me a while to get around to plot points.

Anyway, thanks for losing me a dollar, Red Sox. For fuck's sake, would it kill you not to blow a twelve-game lead?

That's really all I've got right now. My company summer party was last night, so it was a bit late when we got home. I'll try to check in during the day, but we've got a companywide meeting or something early on, so I don't know if we can hack that. Then tonight, Harry and the Potters, although I've frankly gotten to the point where I'm afraid to leave the house because some moran is going to tell me the ending of the book and then I'll have to murder them.

Rocks fall, everybody dies.

I haven't seen any spoilers, even hints. This is gonna be great!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 08:24 am

In my haste, I forgot a fun thing from last night. As 2.0 and I left the after-party bar, we walked right on by my old office building, 1211 Ave of the Americas, which happens to be the global HQ of Fox News. Apparently, they tape Hannity and Colmes in front of a live audience, in a studio on the ground floor with windows going to the street, because we saw Hannity's big stupid head. So we pressed our faces against the glass to watch for a bit. It was hilarious - the studio has maybe 20 seats in it, and there were maybe a dozen audience members there. I love it. They can't even fill 20 seats. So we watched for a while, gave 'em the double barrel salute - drawing laughter from the young PA dude in the studio, and grimaces of concern from the security staff outside - yelled "Nazi!" a bit, and proceeded home. I have some pics on my phone, I'll see if they came out well enough to bother posting tomorrow.

Fantastic work with the reflection in the cops glasses!

Poor Ron.

Our Internet was down for a while this morning so I just got to finally get here... I was seriously jonesin' for some FBTF.

2.0 -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 12:23 pm

So, apparently (I didn't read the article) someone from the New York Times walked into a New York City bookstore and bought Deathly Hallows on Wednesday. The review is in their book section today.

Do people not know how to follow directions?

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 12:38 pm

Thanks, Whitey. Fun with panel design!

Scholastic's legal department must be going apeshit.

MNP -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 12:45 pm

I'm SO pissed that the NYTimes published a review already. that's just rude.

Their authors actually read most of the email they get sent (I've written before). I think the author of the review should be completely inundated with angry messages (once the book is out, of course, cuz I can't open the review yet).

ad -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 12:45 pm

The review went up online last night... No real spoilers, but if you want to be really surprised don't read it. Good review-- keeps me hopeful that it will be a good book. (Not that I doubt, but the hype can do weird things to author and reader alike.)

And I can't imagine who was stupid enough to sell the book early.

I'm half-way through Book 6, so looking good to finish before tomorrow night.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 12:48 pm

Yikes, AD, powerful progress. I am sitting here with nothing to read, since I know I can't begin and finish a book in under 35 hours, what with work, sleep and the barest semblance of a social life mixed in there.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 12:48 pm

What is the utility of reviewing Harry 7, by the way?

15 -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 12:50 pm

I'm reading Middlesex actually (well, listening to the audiobook) and it's so good that I have no problem waiting until midnight to begin my Harry adventure.

I LOVED JK Rowling's smackdown of the Times and other papers publishing reviews:

"I am staggered that American newspapers have decided to publish purported spoilers in the form of reviews in complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers, particularly children, who wanted to reach Harry’s final destination by themselves, in their own time. I am incredibly grateful to all those newspapers, booksellers and others who have chosen not to attempt to spoil Harry’s last adventure for fans."

YEAH!!!

2.0 -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 12:55 pm

Rock on JK!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 01:42 pm

I just remembered that I really, really hate Michigan.

We were just discussing this one at lunch. It kills me even with the sound off.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 02:15 pm

Oh, man, that's funny.

CK -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 02:44 pm

The Baltimore Sun published a review yesterday, which I suppose is where the NYTimes got their "justification" for it -- the paper of record doesn't want to be beaten. . . .

Feh, people.

In happier news, I just did a long interview with ABC Nightline for a show that's airing tomorrow night at 11:35 p.m. . . . when exactly NOBODY will be home, but if you're around, check it out!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 03:02 pm

Dear God, woman!

miyaa -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 03:44 pm

And once again, I wonder why people are so finicky about hearing what happened at the end of a book or movie and feeling like it was ruined and they're not going to watch the movie or read the book.

Still, I agree that the Times (and Baltimore) jumped the gun a little early for the book review.

CK: Does this mean you'll be in the Witness Protection Program before the end of the year?

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 03:48 pm

Anticipation? Appreciation of the craft? I almost murdered my buddy Jeff back in high school when he told me the ending of Murder on the Orient Express.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 03:57 pm

Freaking *finally,* Blue Jays. God.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 19 2007, 11:50 pm

Just testing something.

WHOO.
