Comic for Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Geez, Pete.

Posted: 7:00 am, Thursday, July 5th

We had a strip yesterday, for those of you who had better weather than the New York area, and actually got to get outside for some grilling. Man, what a gray day 'round Brooklyn yesterday. How come it couldn't've done that during pre-Cana on Saturday?

Not a whole lot to report today. I finished the Time Traveler's Wife yesterday. My God, what a brutal book. I am not too proud to deny that I cried at the end. (Actually, it was kind of funny, I was crying at the end of that, and 2.0 was re-reading Harry Potter 6 and crying at the end of that. No man should outlive his fictional wizard! No man!) (Oh! I also had this wild dream last night where I was watching the World Cup Final somewhere in LA, and we left early to get to a Sox-Goat Fuckers game back in New York, and I was reading Harry Potter 7 on the flight. The strange thing was that I was about fifty pages from the end, and Voldemort hadn't even made an appearance yet. I don't know if I subconsciously superimposed the Sopranos finale over Harry 7? Anyway, wild.) Yes, so, read the Time Traveler's Wife. It is a dizzying love story, an astounding exercise in plotting, and a heartbreaking metaphor for the lives of even those of us who are not chrono-impaired.

I had no idea Matt Carroll was still playing. My cousin met him while he was out in Seattle, said he was a great guy.

Still haven't grabbed it, but Zeitgeist is getting surprisingly good word of mouth. Goodness!

Alright, no one strain themselves easing back into work. It's only a day and a half/two days tops. We can do it together.

Matt Carroll is the best thing about going to the Bobcats' games, at least for me. I mean, the team sucks, but at least I can cheer for the Domer.

The NBA is about the only pro league I've never seen live. I guess pro indoor lacrosse, but that hardly counts.

MNP -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 08:31 am

Despite the fact that I think the NBA is boring on tv, I think it's pretty neat to watch live, particularly if you can sit near the court (not hard in Charlotte where no one goes to the games). There's a lot that goes on that gets missed on tv - fighting for position, etc. plus, the break-aways and slams are much more impressive in person.

2.0 -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 08:48 am

Did anyone link to this?

Keith Olbermann:

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 09:00 am

I had forgotten all about that, actually, babe. Thanks.

2.0 -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 10:34 am

You didn't mention our awesome "Overheard in New York" story.

Jeremiah and I were walking by an apartment near our house and this old balding guy says to this other old balding guy:

"So what *did* you do with that Be-in footage from '67?"

I wish I knew!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 10:52 am

Oh, man, I totally forgot about *that*, too.

I apparently spent all of the Fourth huffing gasoline.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 10:59 am

Um, ugh.

Bri -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 11:28 am

In planning my own wedding, I've run into about 50 brides getting married on Saturday. Ridiculous. What gets me is that they all think they're being original.

Whitey -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 11:50 am

I like the Social Studies teacher one... for some strange reason.

Question.. is Pete's brown eye in panel four a play on the fact he's just been an asshole?

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 11:54 am

No, that's an error I didn't have time to fix before work in the morning and was hoping no one would notice 'til I got home tonight. Drat!

Whitey -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 12:02 pm

Sorry, man... honestly... I thought I was going crazy and perhaps he always had brown eyes but that the hand right there made it more apparent...

Next time I'll just e-mail.

Although, if I remember correctly I'm now one minute step closer to getting a free (eventual) T-Shirt!!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 12:10 pm

Shit, I forgot about the point system. Is that two for you?

Whitey -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 12:30 pm

No... that's my first... someone else proposed the system.

MJL -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 02:09 pm

Do I get a point for the stubble thing?

Yeah, might want to propose that points are only awarded for spoofs if communicated via e-mail. Whitey and I might be trading the first 9 posts of every day, "HIS SLEEVE CHANGES LENGTHS IN PANEL 3 I SWEAR!".

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 02:18 pm

No point for the stubble - he didn't have it yesterday, so Pete evidently pulled it together enough to shave before heading out on the town.

CK -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 02:22 pm

That Olbermann piece was awesome. Thanks.

2.0 -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 02:47 pm

You are most welcome CK.

Whitey -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 02:53 pm

I used to live for those "Find 7 things different between the two panels" comics....

No wonder everyone thinks I'm anal retentive...

MJL -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 03:51 pm

Definitely no stubble today. Last week, though...
