Boom! Whee!

Posted: 9:00 am, Wednesday, July 4th

No post, but a strip anyway. Happy 4th, gang.

Just a question: The whole Nathan's Hot Dog Competitive Eating contest that's going down in an hour? Have you seen it in person?

I just find it repulsive everytime I see snippets of it on TV, and I really do feel sorry for the ESPN announcer sent out to cover this event. It just reinforces my disdain for hot dogs. That Kobiyashi guy? He seems to have the metabolism that could if harnessed, could power NYC for centuries to come.

Happy 4th of July!

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, July 4 2007, 01:17 pm

Oh, no, I've never gone. I hear that the crowd is just crazy at that thing. And, yeah, there's something kind of gruesome about it. Count me out.

Mick -- Wednesday, July 4 2007, 01:57 pm

Who's that chick offering Pete a beer? That's not his ex, is it?

ENGeek -- Wednesday, July 4 2007, 05:19 pm

When I first Started posting here, You told me that you were less the "artist" and more the "guy." I think todays comic proves otherwise.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, July 4 2007, 05:35 pm

Ha! That's Jen's boyfriend Adam, actually. I hadn't drawn him in a while, and with the orange glare, yeah, he looks like a chick.

ENGeek, you flatter me.

I'm picturing the ending of Ocean's 11 when they're all lined up on a railing looking at the dancing light water fountain type thingy.

... Which brings us to some FiveBucker trivia. Has the strip's setting ever ventured outside the confines of NYC?

Hmm.. Now that I'm mid-post I can't click through the archive. I think they did make it to the Bend for a 'gaiter one time.

ENGeek -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 06:32 am

that wedding was out of NYC wasn't it?

Bullfrog -- Thursday, July 5 2007, 06:43 am

Um, yeah, Mena's wedding was out in Long Island, and they've been to the Bend twice. ... I can't recall any other times the gang's left the Five Boroughs, though.
