Pete's getting there. Eventually.

Posted: 7:05 am, Friday, June 22nd

Good chattin' yesterday, gang. Nice to have about ten things to add to my to-read list, too. Of course, after a long, chat-inducing blog entry yesterday, today I've got a big nothin'. The department was pretty much o solo mio yesterday and I had to put a bunch of fires out throughout the day.

I feel like I got cheated out of the longest day of the year yesterday. First off, between traveling and work, I've been too busy to notice that the days have been getting longer. Second, it stormed like nobody's business here in la mele grande last night, so the sun pretty effectively went down at about seven o'clock. That's just cheap, man. Nobody likes that.

I was hoping a full night's sleep would give me fuel enough to come up with something to write about, but it appears that is not the case. So I thought I'd cruise the papers a bit, and lo and behold, a story about a blood-drinking African mafia in the Kenyan slums was front center on the Times. Holy crap. Also from the Times, I haven't been watching much TV lately, but is there even any advertising going on for the new Michael Moore flick? I keep forgetting it's even coming out, and I'm a) a big Moore fan back to the TV Nation days, and b) a big health care guy. It seems like Farhenheit 9/11 being such a success kind of destroyed the guy. (By the by, he did a Health Care Olympics segment for TV Nation back in the day that was the only thing he ever allowed the network to edit wholesale, back when he was on NBC - between US, Cuba and Canada, Cuba won, but NBC said there was no way that could fly. So they had to say that Canada won.)(More stuff on health care, though I haven't had time to read it yet, Slate's got something on Barack's health care plan.)

Have you guys heard about the moran judge in Nebraska that's not allowing the word 'rape' to be said in a rape trial? He's insisting that it be called 'sex.' Wow, that's offensive.

Um. Geez, I think that's all I've got. Everybody have a good weekend - we're gonna be grillin' and viewin' parades most the weekend. See you on Monday.

Wish I had seen this - from the Daily News:

"We lost, so it doesn't matter," Clemens said when asked to assess his outing.

Ummmm, some may disagree, Fat Bastard.

Zero -- Friday, June 22 2007, 08:25 am

Hey, be fair. 4 runs in 4.1 innings is a bargain for a million bucks a start. And with a payroll of only somewhere around 200 million is it really fair to ask the guys to have a record over .500?

My gods, this is fun. What a great summer this is going to be.

Seriously, Clemens is awesome. The best is his headshot on the little MLB gameday thing - he looks like he's melting.

I'm not sure if I'm taking more glee in teams constantly dropping bunts for base hits against Clemens, or teams constantly going first to third on Damon's noodle arm.

Did you guys hear about this?

Holy shit!

Miyaa -- Friday, June 22 2007, 09:43 am

And they wonder why I'll never go on a roller coaster ride. Poor girl.

I'm not sure at this point if the Yankees could beat out Oregon State. Getting swept by the Rockies at Colorado? Maybe they should have kept Roger in that humidor.

MNP -- Friday, June 22 2007, 11:23 am

Happy Birthday, Bullfrog! I'd post it on the actual day, but I trust you will be doing only fun, summery things on Sunday :)

Bullfrog -- Friday, June 22 2007, 11:29 am

Thanks, MNP - actually, it's Monday. And I will be coming into the office, because I've got a softball game in the evening and it's a buddy's going-away lunch. But Sunday, we'll be grillin' in the park, whoo-hoo!

MNP -- Friday, June 22 2007, 11:49 am

I've updated my calendar now - no more lies!

Bullfrog -- Friday, June 22 2007, 12:55 pm

God, I'm a moron. I meant to lead with this today and instead I forget it entirely. Big hearty congrats to my Mom - who doesn't know about this site, so this is kind of like yelling into the void, but anyway - who retired from teaching today. She's taught most of her adult life, with a respite to help Dad run the gas station in the late 70s early 80s, and after a 17-year run in kindergarten, she took a year at third grade this past school year. She also ran the teacher's union for the past decade at ye olde Berne-Knox-Westerlo, and got three contracts out of the moran Board of Ed that we have up there. (I'm from a rural area with no industry, no tax base, and not a lot of genetic diversity, so getting any increase in school tax is like pulling teeth from a shark.) And now she and Pop can plant flowers all day or whatever the hell it is they intend to do. Congrats, Ma!

Slate has a podcast on R. Kelly's new album.

Send my congrats to Ma Bullfrog!

Sweaty -- Friday, June 22 2007, 05:19 pm

I also give congrats to Mother Frog. She's one of the nicest people in the world. I hope that this means that she'll be visiting lil' Bullfrog more often now!
