Comic for Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Thought I'd take a break from Pete and his quest for glory. Ooh, man, Quest For Glory. I'm probably going to Google for half an hour after I finish this entry, now.
Not a whole ton on the burner today - was mostly concerned about trying to get some strips done, since I burned off my entire buffer whilst in the ATL last week, and didn't get much done over the weekend. I lusted after this thing for a while, and then looked into silkscreening to see if it was something that interested me. (Not so sure. Has anyone out there done silkscreening? Is it easier than it initially sounds?)
Somebody else (yay, Slate) finally also decided that those new anti-pot ads I like so much are awesome.
I think Greg Maddux looks the most ridiculous here, and that's saying something. (The second commentor nails it with the young Giambi/Billy Corgan thing, though. Damn.)
Hm. I had another thing, but it's not loading. Also, there's a couple across a few backyards from us who are screaming at each other. They've done this in the past, and it's no great joy. In fact, I prefer the guy who practices his acoustic guitar and bellows Bob Marley at the top of his lungs every - single - Sunday. (I assume that guy has either a ponytail or a soul patch, or, in a perfect world, both.) There were just some cop sirens, but I can't really tell where they were coming from. (In case you're having a hard time visualizing, our bedroom - where my desk is - faces the backyard, and the backyards of the houses the next street over. So it's a couple fighting in a house a street over from us. Across the street from *them,* is an expressway. So the cop sirens could've come from there, maybe. Ah, the joys of urban living!)
Yeah, so I guess that's all I've got right now. New White Stripes today, that's fun.

2.0 -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 07:37 am That you openly admit to enjoying anti-pot ads proves my earlier point this morning.
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 08:03 am That I wouldn't know where to get heroin if my lift depended on it?
CK -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 08:17 am I've just done silkscreening by hand, and while that was fun, I found it near-impossible to keep the pressure consistent throughout and get a good-looking result. I'm sure it comes with practice, though,
CK -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 08:18 am (That should have been a period after the "though" -- sorry to leave you in suspense.)
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 08:32 am CK, your range of talents never fails to amaze me.
I just remembered my buddy futzed around with it back in high school... I wonder if he still has his kit.
2.0 -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 08:47 am Yes. That you wouldn't know where to get heroin if your "lift" depended on it.
Miyaa -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 08:57 am Giambi always looked like he has a perpetual deer in headlights look, even when he was in Oakland.
Where do you get the silk for the silkscreen?
CK -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 10:05 am Ah, all my talents come back to the same thing -- this was in a bookmaking course in college! :-)
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 11:06 am I'm very protective of my elevators, 2.0, you know that.
I guess a hobbyshop?
I just got a new computer at the office. My total inability to remember all my various passwords online is going to completely bite me in the ass now.

Whitey -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 01:43 pm Any suggestions for an iPod that completely freezes and won't do anything at all... other than smash it to pieces?
I'm trying to be a hero to an admin because I have a shitload of stuff to give to her to do....
Just wondering...
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 03:18 pm Depending on what gen it is, holding Menu and the Center button usually reset them. apple.com/support generally gives decent advice. If not, tell her to put on her art-school glasses and get ready for a trip to the Genius Bar.
Whitey -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 03:23 pm Bullfrog...
Nicely done - Menu + Center worked...
Now I have to eventually explain to my wife why the 21 year old admin just yelled "I love you!" (wife does work for the company at home).
But, I just earned mucho "I need a favor" points.
Again, Kudos.
The Thoroughly Unpleasant One -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 03:27 pm I haven't silkscreened with a full setup (photoemulsion, exposer, hinged screen that can be clamped down to a board) since high school, but it seemed pretty easy at the time. I have since done several diy silkscreens that involve painting on the emulsion and not having a hinged board that clamps down well, and they have been really fussy and generally unsatisfying. So maybe find some sort of art collective or college that lets you use/rent space first and see if you like it.
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, June 19 2007, 05:00 pm Hm. Thanks, Unpleasant - there must be some studio I can visit or something 'round these parts.
