I actually had reservations about this strip. We're in a foreign war now, and while I disagree with it to the ends of the earth, I am genuinely moved by the sacrifices that soldiers make and do get misty at Memorial Day or Veteran's Day parades. So I kind of thought having Pete march with the VFW may actually be a bad idea when I first drew this strip last Wednesday. But, as luck would have it, I forgot - again - to draw Pete with his mustache. When I was putting the mustache in on Thursday, I listened to the News Hour report on soldiers being completely disabled and not getting any health benefits from the army, and realized that nothing I could draw here would be as offensive as that. And really, it's a harmless gag - Pete's just marching with the VFW for free beer at the end. So I went with it.
Anyway, that's really all we've got today. I've been cookin' schtuff up all weekend, getting a bit ahead of myself in preparation for a business trip in two weeks (yeah, I said it), and no one's going to be reading this today, anyway, so we'll just check in tomorrow and share a quick drink over the Sox being double-digits up on the *entire* division. Hot, hot, hott damn.
