So my company has a volleyball team, and I suited up yesterday for the first time. Holy hot damn, does volleyball have a lot of rules, and holy hot damn, so I suck viciously at organized volleyball. This was a bit of a surprise to me, as Sweaty and I used to be two of the seven or so captains of the Alumni Hall interhall volleyball team back junior year of collitch. (To this day, I can't remember what brought on that relative fit of activity in what was probably the most slothful year of my life.) Did you know you can't touch the net at all? I got whistled for it, and my buddies started mocking me for it, and I think the ref thought I was making fun of him instead of the stupid rule, because then I got whistled for back-to-back carries. Two of the only carries in the match, and the other team was palming the ball left and right. So, anyway, I'm sticking to softball, methinks.

My little training thing yesterday was all well and good. I think I picked up one or two things that you'll see in the future, but I can't be sure. For one, it wasn't in Illustrator, but most of the Adobe programs are pretty similar. I think I can pull one of the tricks they taught us in InDesign in the strip. That was a lot of 'ins.'

That's really all I have, since I was inside away from the net all day yesterday. I moved my car to the right side of the street so that I don't get a ticket this morning. See? This is why I seldom talk about my life.

I know - who the hell has a company volleyball team?

the sports teams are all fine and good, but what i want on a day like today is a team of people to head to the GYC

I don't even know if the GYC is open yet. I volunteer to lead an exploratory committee to look into the matter this weekend.

Man, I wish I worked for your company... we don't even have a bowling league anymore. We occasionally have 3 on 3 Basketball Tournaments that usually end up in either a fight and/or ridiculous "ringering" (which proudly led us to 2nd Place last time).

cursory research - the person i spoke with on the phone at gyc "thinks" it's open now. i mean, currently, but doesn't start serving until 4 o'clock

We have had a volleyball team in the past, but heck if I'm gonna subject myself to that humiliation!

And bowling, too, come to think of it. And I run softball every year.

And our company has a little over 100 people.

It seems like law firms like to stick to putting in teams in local 5 and 10Ks - Lawyers not athletic and not team players? Plenty of golf tournaments, though...

skt I am amused that you called the GYC to find out if they are open. Actually what you called is the Bagel place attached to it. They're usually closed before the GYC opens (which explains their ignorance).

I would be remiss if I didn't note the song lyric tag for the website. If I'm not mistaken it comes from Flava Flav's solo cut "I Can't Do Nothing For Ya Man" on Public Enemy's "Fear Of A Black Planet".

This song features such fine phrases as, "eatin' welfare turkey out da can"; "yo mother has gold nipples" and "wash your butt".

Bullfrog, your eclectic taste in music never ceases to amaze me. (and I have about 75% of that album committed to memory... good times!)

You're correct on the Fear of a Black Planet line - I wrote it up there knowing that I really had nothing at all to say in the post today. Thought it was fitting.

Oh, I know... just thought it was pretty funny after the posts hit.

Hard to concentrate on work today, beautiful weather here in Chicagoland.

What is Ron doing in the third panel? He just randomly got the urge to pump his fist and squint like he's rockin' out hardcore?

He's taking it up another notch. I don't know, I guess I just felt like the strip needed more movement.

(He's also making an F in ASL in the second panel.)

For a few brief moments, I had the giant head of Emeril as the background of panel 3, but it was a bit too surreal.
