Glom!

Posted: 7:30 am, Monday, May 7th

Man, so, evidently people were excited for Spider-Man 3? I feel out-of-touch with this stuff. I don't think I'd heard anyone except for, like, me talk about it for very long. And that's just 'cause I love everything that has to do with Spider-Man. But $148 or whatever it made? Yeesh.

I've noticed that I'm really skimping on the background in the bar lately. Sorry, that's not intentional.

Clemens! Anti-Christ. My mother hopes that they break his leg with the first pitch. My mother actually said this. She never fails to astound me. Having never really gotten over hating Clemens for his dogging the '96 season and griping about being disrespected in Boston and then working out and going on the juice to post back-to-back incredible seasons in Toronto and then following the loaded Goat Fucker teams of the late 90s to rings (remember, he's never lead a team to a World Series, only followed) - having never really gotten over all of that, I'm glad the son of a bitch isn't coming back to the Sox. For one, I don't want him talking to Papelbon and turning him onto HGH. For two, I want Manny and Papi to run his ERA up to five or so now that he has to deal with the DH again.

I don't think the Garfield site has enough crap going on.

I remember almost all of these sodas. I actually *liked* Pepsi Blue. It tasted kind of like flat champagne. I have an empty bottle of Crystal Pepsi in my room at home (I actually have a photo of it I've been meaning to put on the site). And my dad went through a stretch where he kept buying me bottles of Orbitz for some reason. I actually kind of liked it - they had a creamsicle flavor that was pretty decent, really.

Alright, that's all I've got. Busy week comin' up, bleh.

Another thing you all don't know about Jeremiah is that he has the worst taste in soda. He'll drink anything as long as it is artificially colored. Bubblegum soda sounds *good* to him.

Bullfrog -- Monday, May 7 2007, 08:33 am

That Jones cola? That stuff was great. Tasted just like bubble gum.

It's almost coffee soda season again!

Bullfrog -- Monday, May 7 2007, 09:11 am

Here, everyone, put off starting the week for just a few more minutes and dodge some tangerines.

Miyaa -- Monday, May 7 2007, 10:17 am

Heh. My parents love ice coffee soda, which you can get at your local Asian grocery stores. Which is fine with me, I usually get a stash of chocolate pocky. Worth going in and getting knocked down by the raw fish smells.

Speaking of Pepsi, they're coming out with a "tropical mix" Pepsi version, only during the summer. Not sure how good it really is.

They're going to need more than Clemens if they want to reach the wild card, I think. Besides, he's only going to be helping at home. So, it can't be that bad.

Bullfrog -- Monday, May 7 2007, 10:33 am

Yeesh, this makes me glad I missed the Amazing Race last night. (Spoiler, obviously.)

2.0 and I would've owned at that, because it would just be the one with all the cursing.

??? -- Monday, May 7 2007, 10:35 am

So where's our top secret URL fragment today, or did I miss it?

Bullfrog -- Monday, May 7 2007, 10:43 am

It's not an every day thing. That's what's going to make this so hard!

(That and the fact there's no way I'm on top of things enough to do this - I'll store that one for the future, when I have my act more in gear. I was just goofing around with that the other day - there's no secret url fragment.)

(Or is there?!?!)

(There's not.)

When I was in New Zealand in 2005, I had a Raspberry Coke that was divine.

I see now that it only lasted 6 months.

Whitey -- Monday, May 7 2007, 12:12 pm

I was going to ask about the Amazing Race this morning, but got sidetracked with work... damn, work.

I'm at peace with the winners... loved seeing Rob looking all smug and not clapping. Jackass.

Forget the Jones cola, do you remember the Hubba Bubba pop (I'm in the midwest, we call it pop)? Or was that just regional? And, of course, "Jolt" cola, which was sadly an idea just before it's time (Coke Blak, Vault, Pepsi w/Amphetamines)

Bullfrog -- Monday, May 7 2007, 12:24 pm

I don't remember Hubba Bubba having a soda, no. And yet, here it is.

Oh, I saw the Pepsi fortified with vitamins or whatever the other day. Didn't try it - I'm working my way through the Best Health family of beverages right now. Bottled right here in Brooklyn, and evidently run by my father, as they have no website.

e -- Monday, May 7 2007, 01:09 pm

Apparently Lost has finally announced its end date - 3 more 16 episode seasons. Three left this season, right? Oh boy!

MJL -- Monday, May 7 2007, 01:25 pm

Frog beat me to the vitamin-fortified soda thing, which I heard about from my sister on Saturday. Apparently they're trying to wedge their way back into the schools market.

If I'm a coke/pepsi executive, and one of my peeps comes to me with that idea, I immediately send him/her Hawaii and make sure a new luxury auto is waiting for him/her upon return. Brilliant.

(Above assumes I've thrown out the notion of caring whether or not this stuff is a genuinely healthful option for your average 12-yr old, a subject on which I don't know enough to comment. Caffeine and sugar remain the same, while just adding the vitamins? Not sure if that's the approach or not.)

Grafe -- Monday, May 7 2007, 01:55 pm

I'm waiting for the vitamin fortified swiss cake rolls.

MJL -- Monday, May 7 2007, 02:52 pm

Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Whitey -- Monday, May 7 2007, 03:21 pm

Beer with anti-oxidants.

Hold up, maybe I should patent that....

Miyaa -- Monday, May 7 2007, 05:02 pm

Oxy-Beer? If you ever decide to have that "Long Live your Laundry!" Oxy guy come hawk your "Beer with anti-oxidants," I may have to take desperate measures. Like, say, have Roger Clemens come live at your house on his off-days. Which apparently is a lot of days.

Do they sell Moxie in NYC?

Whitey -- Monday, May 7 2007, 05:07 pm

If he brings his pro-rated $28 million with him... I'll gladly open the door.

I'm a White Sox fan so I only hate him for when he hit Ron Kittle on the knee back in 1986.

I'm with you on the Oxy guy hate... fickle bastard jumped to the Orange Glo camp like he never even heard of Oxy-Clean... hmmm, strange parallel to Clemens..

Pat -- Tuesday, May 8 2007, 12:02 am

I think 2.0 is right here about your soda taste. Orbits? Really? That was like the worst shit ever put to the beverage market.

I thought you promised you'd have Cece and Pete break up. Now all of a sudden they're boning? I'm very disappointed in your choice of character names, Mr. Conway.

Pat -- Tuesday, May 8 2007, 12:05 am

I will add that your use of Cece as a character name is not the worst family-incidental-name-usage example I've seen in pop culture. In Snoop Dogg's version of "Freaky Tales" from "In Tha Beginning ... There Wuz Rap" features a rhyme about "a girl named Lori" and her "twin sister, her name was Lisa". I happen to have twin cousins named Lori and Lisa, and let's just say I was not too pleased with what the reputations of the Lori and Lisa in this particular verse.
