Ron, all dressed up.

Posted: 7:15 am, Wednesday, May 2nd

Got home just in time, true believers, as there is lightning galore outside right now. Verily, we did venture back to Roosevelt Island last night, where my softball team managed an 11-6 victory that felt like 20-1 and also was way too close for comfort at the end. The final out of the game was recorded by one of their dudes overrunning second and our rookie second baselady staying with the play and tagging the guy out - the odds of that are slightly higher than successfully navigating an asteroid field. I know, never quote you the odds, but, still, unlikely. And if that out hadn't been recorded, the three guys on their team who were absolutely fucking raking against us were going to be up. So, all in all, a tight game considering we scored seven in the top of the first. I went three-for-three with three RBI if you're scoring at home, but my first hit traveled exactly one foot from the plate, so it was a pretty lame three-for-three. Played a pretty solid left on a field with a big hill, too. So we're 2-0 going into our next game in a week and a half or so.

Man, why the hell is the Rage show from Coachella over this past weekend not online anywhere? I can't believe Zach Morrison saw it and I haven't even heard the freaking thing yet.

He pitched a pretty game last night, but this isn't really concerned with how good or bad (or injured) Phil Hughes is. It's mostly how insanely detailed the Hardball Times is. God, look at this nonsense.

I haven't checked out Marco in quite a while, but I'm glad to see he's finally gotten the best of his nemesis Sparty.

God damn, I despise this man. In the middle or so of that article:

Democrats spent hours trying to take advantage of the fourth anniversary of President Bush’s “mission accomplished” speech, a tactic the White House dismissed as shabby theatrics and a distortion of what the president really said in 2003.

What the fuck has this whole administration been if not shabby theatrics?

The White House quickly pointed out that Mr. Bush never spoke the words “mission accomplished” in his speech. Rather, they were displayed on a banner aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, where Mr. Bush landed shortly after the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was toppled by the American-led invasion.

Dana Perino, a spokeswoman for Mr. Bush, told reporters on Air Force One today that the speech Mr. Bush delivered as he stood on the carrier’s flight deck on May 1, 2003, “has been widely misconstrued.”

“I encourage people to go back and read it,” Ms. Perino said on the way to Florida. “The president did say we had a long and difficult road ahead of us. We’re moving from a dictatorship to a democracy.”

Shitwit's been distancing himself from that one almost since it happened, even going so far as to blame it on the troops. But, and admitting all the total flaws of the cliche of Googling something to prove or disprove something else, if you build your administration on the power of the visual image, you really can't have it both ways, man.

Ugh, the Sox just lost. That stings. Well, at least Pap didn't blow his first to the Goat Fuckers. You knew he wasn't going to go 48-for-48.

I suppose it's too much to hope for the Dow Jones to the principled stand and not sell to fucking News Corp., isn't it?

Cece: I've got a set tomorrow night ...

Yes you do.... in fact, you have one now! Yow!

:)

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 10:57 am

And we have a vote for Cece!

Whitey -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 11:41 am

Yes!!! I'm not the only one to comment on the, ahem, attributes of a Five Bucks female.

2.0 -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 02:37 pm

Due (no doubt) to the prevalence of half shirts in Fivebuckslandia.

Poll: How many Five Bucks readers wear or have worn a half shirt in the past five years?

Secretary -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 02:45 pm

I don't know if I've worn a half shirt in my LIFE, let alone the past 5 years

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 03:21 pm

OK, so I'm working backwards through the archives to see how long ago this frequently aired complaint of 2.0's last appeared in Five Bucks. So far, the first instance of visible tummy is back in early March.

http://www.fivebuckstofriday.com/2007/archive070308.html

And even then it's only visible in one panel, and could not unreasonably just be Mara's t-shirt got bunched up or something. It's not like I've got them parading around in Psylocke's old costume or something.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 03:28 pm

OK, the instance previous to that was in January, but it was the whole point of the joke, so, again, I don't think this is unreasonable.

Wood -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 03:39 pm

10 Style points for a Psylocke reference. I am a dude but I wore a half shirt just about every day for close to nine years. It was mostly due to the football pads but it was a half shirt regardless.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 03:45 pm

Alright, and before that was in August.

Whitey -- Wednesday, May 2 2007, 04:16 pm

Hey, in the Mara's shirt riding up ever so slightly strip there's all sorts of Ron's knee being shown... so there's equal time....of sorts.

As for the January... ah, that Lissa....

Ditto on the football halfies, although it's sadly much longer than 5 years ago.
