Comic for Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Posted: 8:45 am, Thursday, April 5th
Two silly things I saw on the internet yesterday that I screen-capped because, well, I'm anal that way or something.
I mentioned this yesterday, but I figured it was silly enough to hit up twice. 15 will be dismayed to learn that the Cardinals did not, in fact, win the 1967 World Series. 2004 actually erased from my memory whatever horrid twist of fate it was that made the Sox lose this one, but I guess in the alternate universe where the Sox won, it didn't happen. So that's good to know. Maybe the Sox didn't sell Babe Ruth in this reality, either, and Willy Mays was manning center the way he should've been for this particular Series victory. (The Sox had first crack at Mays, but had shamefully yet to desegregate.)
Also:

I don't give a shit and only know one or two people who do, and they're both older coworkers of mine. What I do care about is typefaces. Why in God's name is 'at' italicized? I'm willing to allow Tiger, Phil and Augusta to be small-capped and of a different color, and I'm even OK with enlarging Augusta. But the italicized 'at' is ridiculous. Terrible job, CNNSI.
Finally saw Lost last night. It figures that I've missed the only three-week run in the show's history where a ton happened. I was, I hate to say it, quite lost for most of the hour. Although I loved Hurley conning Sawyer into being nice. Sawyer is a fantastic comic character.
Matsuzaka begins his reign of fear upon the AL today at two ten, and I am quite excited. He will be totally worth his $51 million contract if only he wins me my dollar from Tree. I'm going to set up a PayPal receiving account just so I can get that dollar even faster.

Secretary -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 09:02 am Isn't it kind of odd that the sign asks if anyone can beat TWO people? I mean, Phil will beat Tiger or Tiger will be Phil, at least, right? They don't let people tie in that kind of thing, do they?
crownover -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 09:10 am i'm glad the smoke-monster-thingie finally made a reappearance on Lost. Was wondering what happened to it...
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 09:29 am Coming dangerously close to a Napoleon Dynamite reference, perhaps they've joined forces to become Phiger, the world's greatest ambidextrous golfer.
15 -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 09:51 am You guys going to take 1946 away from us, too?
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 09:55 am No, because that's the World Championship mentioned on the Cardinals shirt in that same style on the MLB shop page. So you have it on good authority that the Cards still beat Teddy Ballgame's team.
Wood -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 09:58 am Bold move calling out captain america. Does Jen know that Cap was killed off not too long ago. It was a sad day for closet comic book nerds everywhere.
Princess Di -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 10:03 am Anyone bored at work? This entertained me for most of yesterday afternoon:
www.gettheglass.com
It seems to work better on an Apple than a PC...
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 10:17 am Holy elaborate, Batman. I'm going to have to try that thing at home - it looks like it takes quite a while.
Yeah, bad timing on my part with Cap's recent demise, but maybe Jen's offering to take up the mantle? By the way, of all the thousands of sketches of Spider-Man I've done in my lifetime, this is amongst the worst. I had planned to have him swinging on his webline, but the no-outlines thing that I rock here in Five Bucks really makes an all-red and blue outfit hard to make clear.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 10:24 am Oh, man, awesome last panel of Soxaholix today.
http://www.soxaholix.com/
Hands up who gets the reference, because it means you, my friend, spend a lot of time on the internet and have a steel trap of a memory.
Sweaty -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 11:00 am Isn't it a reference from the "All your base are belong to us" speach? However, I can't remember the name of the Japanese video game that did it.
The gyroball for great justice!
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 11:15 am Zero Wing. Nice work, Sweats. Nice bit of Engrish yourself there, "speach." No one would ever known you've lived in America your whole life.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 11:16 am I have received word from Dell! My laptop was shipped yesterday and is supposed to arrive at my office tomorrow! Oh happy day!
I cannot *wait* to see how many pieces it's in when it comes.
February 22nd to (maybe) April 6th - a completely reasonable turnaround time.
crownover -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 11:38 am the computer is coming to your office on good friday? good grief.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 11:41 am Well, it's not like I get the day off, anyway, so.
e -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 12:33 pm So, Dell forced a Lenten sacrifice on you?
Sweaty -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 12:40 pm Well I was born in Hawaii.
Princess Di -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 12:45 pm And one more for entertainment:

Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 12:56 pm You were not born in Hawaii, you effing liar.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 02:09 pm Game on!
We get signal!
Sweaty -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 02:13 pm Don't hate me because I was born in paradise.
There are plenty of other reasons to hate me.
Dan -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 02:29 pm Let's go Dice-K no whammies no whammies let's go no whammies aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnd STOP!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 02:35 pm God, I love the Whammy. I've linked to this in the past, but here it is again - the dude who beat the system on Press Your Luck.

Dan -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 03:01 pm Outstanding. I've read about him before, but I think it was long enough ago that it's all so fresh to me. I like how people were calling it a scandal, when all he did was watch the board carefully. It's not cheating.
Hey Bullfrog, if you like 80s nostalgia, x-entertainment.com has a bunch of articles dissecting various Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades from the 80s. With video! Awesome stuff.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 03:34 pm Hell yes, son. I threw links up there for it back right before Thanksgiving - my favorite is the '85 one with the He-Man float. I was so excited for that thing 22 years ago.

I haven't been reading X-E as much as I used to, but Retrocrush is another really good one. I think it's where Matt from X-E got his start, and the Retrocrush podcast is excellent.
Dan -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 04:56 pm Well, poop on a rope. I bet this is where I found the links in the first place. Sweet stuff.
Whitey -- Thursday, April 5 2007, 05:25 pm "Poop on a Rope"
Now THAT'S a clause I need to work into some sort of business conversation today.
