Comic for Friday, March 30th, 2007

Posted: 8:45 am, Friday, March 30th
OK, due to hitting the batting cages with some of my coworkers, and 2.0's Mac not being able to handle it for some reason, I am just now this morning getting to watch the GTA IV trailer. So give me one moment, please. Nope, we're still loading. God dammit, Dell, a pox upon your house.
They've been advertising the crap out of it, but I honestly could not tell you what that Meet the Robinsons movie is about - futuristic frogs and a T-Rex is all I know of it. Apparently it sucks. Well, that's not shocking, I guess.
Gonzalez has held on a bit longer than I thought. Is Rice the only Bush crony left from the get-go? Aside from Cheney, I guess.
Oh, fuck yes, a high-res New York City to tear around in? God bless America. (The Grand Theft trailer just finished loading.) Oh, man, I am jazzed. My bridge! My beautiful bridge! Good times. Very excited. Noting with some dismay that it comes out a few days after the wedding - probably not the best way to start marital bliss, but 2.0 already knows what she's getting into.
You know what's a weird word? "Ace." I got thinking about it walking from the subway to the office, and it's really a strange word.
Um, yeah, so, that's about it. It's been yet another crappily hectic week at the office and no computer at home. This situation *has* to resolve itself soon, so I'm looking forward to being able to get you all better morning reading material in the near future. Here's to you, Mets and Cards fans, who have something to look forward to this weekend. I will be exploding into baseball-induced joy on Monday. Tree and I have a dollar riding on the outcome of the Royals-Sox season-opening series. I am going to buy Atomic Fireballs with my ill-gotten gains. (Ill in the Beastie Boys, "Did-you-see-that-ill-pitch-that-Japanese-guy-threw," sort of way.)

CK -- Friday, March 30 2007, 09:44 am MEET THE ROBINSONS is actually based on a terrific children's book by William Joyce, called A DAY WITH WILBUR ROBINSON -- the visuals in the movie are very much like his illustrations for the book. But as with most attempts to convert a 32-page picture book to a 90-minute movie, the need to pad the plot seems to have destroyed a lot of the whimsy and charm that made the original book so perfect. In fact, I'm not sure there's a good picture book -> movie adaptation out there.
These are not the concerns of most of your readers, I know, so thanks for indulging me here.
And, um, go Royals! Or Sox! Or both. Yay Team!
Bullfrog -- Friday, March 30 2007, 09:56 am I like team.
And I doubt the nonsense I ramble about most days are in line with the overwhelming concerns of most of my readers, CK, so indulge yourself whenever.
MNP -- Friday, March 30 2007, 11:01 am CK, I'm curious...what are some other examples of pictures book to movie translations?
Bullfrog -- Friday, March 30 2007, 11:08 am Polar Express is the only one I can think of right off-hand. And supposedly Dave Eggers is working on a screenplay of Where the Wild Things Are.
Man, I loved Goodnight, Moon. That book rocked.
I just spent half an hour tracking down the first clue in Kotaku's PS3 contest, only to find that I don't have nearly the gaming knowledge to attack the second of five clues. Well, there that went.
Miyaa -- Friday, March 30 2007, 11:44 am So, apparently Gore is getting an International Emmy for his work with his Changes Cable Channel or something like that.
And I keep wondering why would people think he'd make a good President? He seems to be doing a really good job just being global ambassador...
A lot of ESPN people are pegging the Yankees not to make the playoffs this year. I'm not sure if that's a good sign or not.
Bullfrog -- Friday, March 30 2007, 01:43 pm Lissa would not approve.

Bullfrog -- Friday, March 30 2007, 02:08 pm Pretty interesting article on the new Wheel of Death or whatever in the Circus.

2.0 -- Friday, March 30 2007, 02:17 pm Jumanji is another (I think) failed attempt. I loved that book as a kid. Chris Van Allsburg's illustrations speak for themselves. They certainly don't need the dred Robin Williams, *or* Tom Hanks for that matter, to help them along.
CK -- Friday, March 30 2007, 04:17 pm Yup, JUMANJI, and also the two Dr. Seuss adaptations, THE CAT IN THE HAT and THE GRINCH WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS. Feh.
Bullfrog -- Friday, March 30 2007, 04:27 pm Ugh, I'd blocked out those two Seuss abominations. The poor doctor.
