Comic for Thursday, March 29th, 2007

I love that first panel.

Posted: 8:45 am, Thursday, March 29th

Alright, back to normal today. Sorry about that yesterday, I hate having to do that.

My boss retired yesterday, and we had a little office get-together at the end of the day. My boss hated public speaking and also being the center of attention, so it was rather dreadful for her, but she handled it well, I thought. Our CEO made a speech, and then she took stage and began, "Really, what I think I deserve the most credit for," and then talked about me and my two coworkers, which was rather nice. If for some reason they make the mistake of letting me give a speech whenever I leave this gin joint, I will begin my farewell address in the same fashion, except then talk about myself for a good 20 minutes. Actually, no, I'll probably quote Bilbo Baggins, "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve," and then run away, throwing kerosene and matches over my shoulder while "Take This Job and Shove It" plays in the background. Then I'll jump on my horse and gallop back to Brooklyn. It will be an odd day.

Sweet project from Gridskipper about baseball team-specific bars. I know of a few good Sox bars in the city, and 2.0 and I more or less make our local into one whenever we go there, and 15 has her Cardinals bar where she hobnobs with Deadspin guy, but this is still good knowledge to have. I'd like to find a Twins bar or something if the matchup is ever Santana v. Pavano, because boy do I hate the Goat Fuckers. (By the way, this is hilarious.)

Uh, and that's it, really. Didn't get much webbin' done yesterday. There is this, coming to an end later this evening, which is very exciting.

Oh, for the third week in a row, I have missed Lost, so watch your mouth 'round here. I'm not actively missing the show, and will be catching up at some point. At least last night it wasn't for work, unlike the previous two weeks.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 29 2007, 08:44 am

It may've been better when Shitwit was still illiterate. Look at the crap he's apparently reading.

My favorite is the part about the Irish mafia conspiring with Hollywood to make Brits look bad. I'll be chuckling about that all day.

Dan -- Thursday, March 29 2007, 10:09 am

Interesting how he's having a who-can-read-more contest with Rover, but I really don't think My Pet Goat should count. That'd be like my saying I've hit more homers than Aaron, although all of mine were in my backyard.

Hey, btw. Not to get all sycophantic and all, but your comic is remarkably awesome. Great artwork, attention to detail, and it's funny as hell. Please keep up the good work.

There's this nice website called http://www.urbantailgate.com that exists just to get sports fans in New York together at the best bar for each team. I don't think there's quite enough people currently signed up right now to really be a definitive source, but it's a nice idea. Hope it works for them...

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 29 2007, 11:54 am

Thanks, Dan. I try my best. Look for big improvements in a month and a half, when I get the Illustrator upgrade! Actually, I'll probably still be using it on a completely elementary level, but maybe something will change, somehow.

And thanks for the hint there, too, 15.

I just found out I'm getting to go to Atlanta for a design conference in early June - the Cubs are in town, so I'll get to mark another ballpark off my list, my first new one in two years. That's fun. If I were only a week later, I'd be able to see the Sox. Darn it.

Feel free to submit Atlanta must-sees to me, if there are any.

Grafe -- Thursday, March 29 2007, 01:56 pm

The atlanta ballpark is like disneyland (YES, i've been there believe it or not).

Check out what's going on in the little five points area. Lots of seedy live music bars.

Pat -- Thursday, March 29 2007, 03:02 pm

I want to be a part of the Hollywood Irish mafia. I like that this historian made up the same kind of thing I would make up, except where I would imagine it as awesome, he's pissed off about it.

I came here hoping for some Lost discussion, so I'll start it with this bold statement: I'm glad they killed off Paolo and Nikki (even if a bit gruesomely) because they really represented a point in the show's development where the writers said, "Fuck it, we've gotta keep this thing going indefinitely, so let's introduce way more characters so the fans will have an even harder time keeping track of everything." So yes, goodbye to them, and good riddance.

The overtly jigglish scene was pretty awesome though.

Pat -- Thursday, March 29 2007, 03:05 pm

Oh, and about Atlanta, one of the most impressive things is the airport itself. It's HUGE. Supposedly the most-trafficked airport in the world.

I was there for a day and night for work w/ CNN; the coolest part was that it was CNN's 25th anniversary so we went to a company party with southern food, gospel music and a funk band. I also got to meet Wolf Blitzer (very short but polite) and tap beer cans with Christiane Amanpour. She drinks Miller Lite. Sweet.

LOST SPOILER ALERT: Pat - you think we are really done with Nikki & Paolo? I kinda thought the last scene left it open. It was interesting to see them try to piece these people into previous seasons. I was not impressed about how they happened to find the plane and the 2nd hatch first. Too many things were too convenient. However, I do like the thought that the other people on the island are not just standing around eating fruit while the same 5 characters have all these near death experiences.

Miyaa -- Thursday, March 29 2007, 04:59 pm

Atlanta's airport is huge, but the design is suspiciously shaped like a penis. (Check Atlanta's web page to see what I mean.)

Other than the obvious, CNN, Weather Channel, Coke tour, there aren't that much to see if you're looking for something off the beaten path.

Some people take cartoons way too seriously.
