Comic for Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Yeah, yeah. I suck, I know.

Posted: 8:45 am, Wednesday, March 28th (updated at 10:20)

Sorry about this, gang. I wasn't happy with the script for this one when I was drawing on Sunday, so I went ahead and did the strips for Thursday and Friday, instead, intending to punch this one up during the week. Unfortunately for the strip's sake, a buddy of mine from high school was in town last night, and one thing lead to another, and I got home at midnight. I actually *did* wake up at five thirty intending to draw this on the computer, but realized that was completely insane and went back to bed. And, of course, I'm still not happy with the script. So, really, the kids are the ones that suffer. And I'm sorry for that.

The other bad news is that there's something urgent on my desk already, so I'll be back later in the day with Gawker-style entries of all the crap that I found yesterday. In the meantime, I'll leave you to contemplate the odds of Robert Plant using MySpace.

Yeah, right.

Ah, fuck it, I'll just make the rest of the entry here, like nothing ever happened.

Midway down this trade round-up - I have no idea where these dudes get all the information in these things, by the way - is a report that 300 director Zack Snyder is making a flick about zombies in Vegas. Oh, man, that is awesome. I'm psyched about that. By the way, my desire to see 300 decreased exponentially as soon as it came out. I don't know what the deal is there. Now I'm mostly psyched about Grindhouse.

Something I did not know what available on Netflix: Heavy Metal Parking Lot. I saw a twenty-minute cut of this about five years ago before Home Movie (also enjoyable), and absolutely loved it. I don’t know how I feel about 165 minutes of it, but it’s freaking Netflix – get it and watch it until you get bored of it, and pop it back in the mail. I highly recommend it.

Wonkette (is that still two dudes? I haven't read it in a while) notes that Tony Snow looks like hell. I still can't get over the fact that the White House press guy is from Fox News.

I read a lot of Overheard in New York yesterday - it's the sort of site that I completely forget about for a long time and then binge on it - and figured, why not sample one for you? It even kind of relates to the previous paragraph, which is nice.

My mind is turning to baseball. Actually, just as much softball, but since no one’s interviewing Bill James about my company’s projected pythaogerean record, we’ll just talk about baseball.

Screwcaps on wine are not just for the homeless anymore! (My own favorite screwcap wine, which I've mentioned several times in this space, is Big House Red.)

Last up, I had this crazy beer over the weekend, this German smoke beer. It smelled and tasted something like sausage. It was fantastic. Apparently they do it with beechwood, but I really think they smoke it with meat or something.

How about that Harry Potter 7 cover - looks like Harry and Voldemort are battling in an amphitheatre! With people watching! The image is on www.leakynews.com - how awesome.

2.0 -- Wednesday, March 28 2007, 11:10 am

I think Tony Snow has cancer actually.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, March 28 2007, 11:14 am

Really? Huh.

Can't see the cover right now, 15 - traffic apparently is too much for the ol' Cauldron. Oh, maybe mugglenet has it.. Yep, they do.

http://mugglenet.com/

That's pretty sweet. 784 pages, too, damn!

CK, if you've got a second, why do the Brits have an adult and children's version of the cover? And why is the children's one is so bloody terrible?

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, March 28 2007, 11:16 am

And, yep, Tony Snow has cancer. Well, I feel just super about myself now.

Will they get that "Let's Get Ready to Rumble" guy to do the pre-fight introductions?

"In this corner, weighting in at a total of 68 kilograms, the mean man who will turn all muggles into slaves, the one, the only, Looorrrrdddd Voldeeeemooorrrrtrtttttt!"

I'm hoping for mutual assured destruction between old Volty and Harry "So I spent my summer naked on the London Stage" Potter.

Heavy Metal Parking Lot is awesome! Didn't know there was a longer version.

PRIEST RULES!!!!!!!!

I don’t like the UK art either – WAY too busy – but the good thing about it is there are loads of details in the picture that we can speculate about! For example: what’s up with the looks on Ron’s and Hermione’s faces?

Pajiba's got a fun desert island disc thing going in the comments right now, if you need a diversion.

http://www.pajiba.com/cds-for-a-three-hour-tour.htm

Why I don't just turn this site into a mirror for Pajiba, I don't know. I link there efuckingnough. I totally choked on my discs, by the way - Siamese Dream, Highway 61 Revisited, Almost Killed Me, Let it Bleed and Paul's Boutique. Actually, I don't know what I'd cut from that, but I need either the Bends or One Beat or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot on there. I think the Stones would lose.

The Brits have separate adult and children's covers because apparently no British adult wants to be seen reading a children's novel . . .

Or else British adults find the British children's covers as loathsome as many American adults do.

300 was pretty sweet, but it had some odd moral messages that prickled my leftist PC sense. I won't spoil them for you though.

Luckily, cool-ass sword fighting and decapitations trumps such concerns any day.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, March 28 2007, 11:10 pm

I've always wanted a sword.

Good enough for me, CK. Seriously, the art on the kid's version looks like the cover art for an 80's Intellivision game or something.
