The voyage home begins!

Posted: 8:55 am, Tuesday, March 27th

Grafe sent me a link to this article from the LA Times yesterday, about a site that allows you to e-mail your future self. Having settled into a reasonably healthy and happy place these days, I, for one, have absolutely no idea what I would say to my future self. Perhaps, "Has Dell returned your laptop yet?" But some of the e-mails those people send themselves - goodness! Such bleakness! Such despair! I'll say this much: I do not look forward to perhaps one day being in a position of having to care for a teenager. Even the one going to the Ivy League is a mess in that article.

I got this crazy video off MGoBlog, which I've only returned to reading because players are getting kicked off Michigan's football team and they are about to embark on a long and probably fruitless coaching search for their basketball program, and I like salty Michigan tears. The video hasn't the slightest thing to do with anything maize colored, but it wild nonetheless.

2.0, learning that it keeps CK sane, was tearing through Go Fug Yourself earlier this morning, which I mention for no real reason, I suppose. Just to let you know it's there. I usually only hit it after the big awards shows to see who was wearing what Godawful thing, but they're having quite a bit of fun with Ms. Spears these days, so.

We won at soccer last night - notable largely because the other team was a bunch of Latinos. I did not score, but I seem to be adequate defensively, and that's good enough for me. The more important company sport - softball! - begins next Monday, which is kind of obscenely early for New York City. We play on Roosevelt Island, on a field that's soggy well into June. I hear I'm penciled in at centerfield. These are not good portents for the season. There's also talk of a work volleyball league. At age 28, I seem to have become a jock.

Didn't this happen a long time ago?

Uh, anyway. Right! 70 out there today. I'ma eat my lunch outside and try to find a bar with outside seating for a brew or two after work.

Well, Faulk was injured and wasn't expected to return in a year before he realized he probably got a lot more respect as an NFL Network analyst than being one of the best running backs in the past ten years or so. Plus, he figured it would be better than being Trent Green or Jake Plummer. Only in sports can being 30 mean you're over the hill.

Porn stars don't age well, either.

Adult Swim has captured my attitude toward meetings perfectly in this little game:

I found this astounding: "About 21 percent of calories consumed by Americans over the age of 2 come from beverages..."

My favorite bit from the first few paragraphs of that article:

There has been a huge increase in sugar-sweetened drinks in recent decades, primarily at the expense of milk, which has clear nutritional benefits.

Mmmm, milk. Milk kicks ass.

And then it goes on to talk up coffee! This article is great!

I'm stopping when it gets to beer, though.

I just wanted to thank CK for reminding me of Go Fug Yourself. I was reading through the old entries on Britney Spears this morning and cried. For those of you who haven't been there:

I feel a little sorry for the girl, I do, but...

Well, I guess I'm a bad person

I can't stand the fat-free milk that my parents drink because they want to be healthier. Listen, if I wanted to drink fat-free milk, I'll just drink water instead because that's what it tasted like. (Same logic applies to citrus flavored water, if I wanted something citrus-flavored, I'll either drink lemonade or orange juice.)

I don't feel sorry for Britney. She's making K-Fed look good, and I thought that was impossible to do.

I'm the opposite. I HATED the thickness of milk until I tried skim. I swear it stays colder longer, too.

Pat -- Tuesday, March 27 2007, 02:21 pm

Milk: it's the shit.

CK -- Tuesday, March 27 2007, 02:24 pm

My pleasure, 2.0.

I would like to pick up the Rome discussion from yesterday, as I missed its original incarnation.

That show is great, and to burst your bubble somewhat, the last episode of the series just aired Sunday night. I will miss it dearly. Pullo is one of the greatest TV characters in years, Vorenus makes a great moral center for the show, and Irish actors are repping Erin's Isle to the fullest. (Ciaran Hinds, what what!)

To whomever said Octavia is not hot: I hope that was sarcasm that I failed to notice. Because, damn.

Oh, and the switch from old Octavian to new Octavian in season two was not seamless at all. It took me the entirety of an episode before I realized the two actors were supposed to be the same person.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, March 27 2007, 03:06 pm

Actually, I'm kind of psyched that it's only two seasons - 2.0 and I did Six Feet Under via Netflix and five straight months of getting the Fishers mailed to us in three-hour blocks was kind of draining.

Has Octavia been introduced in the first two episodes of the first season? Is that Attia's daughter/Octavian's sister? She's mostly been sobbing so far, so I haven't formed an opinion. I'm not totally up with all the names yet. I'm guessing Vorenus is centurion guy, right?

skt -- Tuesday, March 27 2007, 04:36 pm

yeah - it's totally easy to like the young nubile one (yes, she is attia's daughter) but let us not overlook attia - yum.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, March 27 2007, 04:56 pm

Nothing's hotter than a lady covered in cow blood.

What?
