Comic for Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

It's a long and lonely road.

Posted: 8:40 am, Tuesday, March 20th

So I've been listening to NWA and Public Enemy a lot in the last week - which I'm sure is how you all thought this post would start - and I've also been seeing ads for the newest Ice Cube movie, Are We Done Yet?, which looks like a mashup of Green Acres and the Money Pit. I can't believe this is the same dude who recorded AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted a mere seventeen years ago. More than that, even, I didn't remember that he had a verse on PE's Burn, Hollywood, Burn 'til last week. Being in such nonsense as Are We There Yet? and Barbershop 2 didn't seem to be what that song was about, but, on the other hand, Cube's had a better run of it the last few years than Bruce Willis. (I'm not willing to give him credit for Over the Hedge or Ocean's 12 - it may be cherrypicking data, but I don't really think so.)

Know your slimy records execs who suck. Speaking of the crap that is the record industry, is everyone aware of this ridiculous definitive 200 list? I never would've been without the internet, since I haven't bought a CDs in years now, but, God, what an awful list. Everything you need to know about it is that Matchbox 20 is on it. Tom the Dog goes into it in admirable detail.

RetroCrush has a pretty sweet interview with Robert Graysmith (whose book Zodiac is based on). I really enjoyed the hell out of Zodiac and highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

I hit up Slice for the first time in forever yesterday, and I don't rightly know why, but it steered me to two other awesome sites - A Hamburger Today, and Eater. God, I love how specialized the internet is. Also, New Yorkers, Eater's got a cool project going pointing out the best bars for buybacks. I've actually had tremendous luck with buybacks over the years - Scruffy Duffy's on 8th and 46th has never failed to go at least one every four rounds for me and usually one every three, and my local in Brooklyn is actually dangerously generous with the buybacks. Nominate your favorites, so I can go there, because this web comic gig don't pay much.

Did anyone hear the interview with Tom Delay on NPR this morning? God, what an asshole. Even for a politician.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, March 20 2007, 09:16 am

No, but I saw him on Meet the Press on Sunday. He may be the least humble person I've ever seen. Seriously, he makes Shitwit look penitent by comparison.

The thing that never ceases to amaze me is his certainty. (Similar to your thoughts on utter lack of humbleness, bullfrog.) Something tells me that if Tom Delay were convinced it were a sunny day outside, he would walk around in a hurricane without an umbrella.

Your buy-back comment, dearest, indicates that you have made it through at least two buy-backs rounds.

Nice work.

Hi mom.

Oh, sheesh. Fine, to further explain: The time Scruffy Duffy's was at its most generous with the freebies, there was a pack of about ten of us there on a Saturday afternoon, so basically a round included a free beer or two whenever someone went up. And at our local, honey-who-is-trying-to-make-me-look-like-a-drunk, we left buybacks on the table the time I'm thinking about.

No need to explain.
